They keep asking these questions because Xbox are doing it with all their ex 1st party IP's. The difference is Xbox games need Playstation, Playstation games don't need Xbox.

Sony are not in a situation where they need to put their big games on another console. We all know the reason why Microsoft are doing it, if they were selling 90+ million consoles each gen then you wouldn't be seeing Forza, Fable, Gears and Halo on a Playstation console.

Yet you have gullible people thinking Microsoft are saints and are going multi platform because they believe in everyone should play their games 😂.

The failure of the Xbox One has brought about many attempts to recoup their player base and lost revenue. From releasing their games day and date on PC, creating gamepass, buying two massive publishers, and trying to push cloud gaming. Putting their games on Playstation and Nintendo is just another attempt. Sony have not had a failure of this size yet to do any of the above hence why you won't be seeing any big Sony made single player games on Xbox or Nintendo.

I won't console war but when even the licenced Bandai Sony games haven't gone to Xbox why the hell would Spider-Man go.

Xbox has had no choice but to go this route and one must never forget they bought all these studios for exclusives. It's just that they miscalculated and it put them in a worse position that forced the head of Microsoft and the CFO to 'assume direct control'

Ms has pushed game pass so hard they forgot about sales. And then they started asking, "how come no one buy game??" So they had to make up for it by selling on other consoles. Ps/nin do not have that sort of problem.

Xbox players, it's been 7 years got to let it go. You next console play steam games, play the PC port.

Why are some people having a difficult time with this? Xbox is doing this out of necessity because they’ve butchered their own brand for over a decade. PlayStation is not going to start releasing their own games (which have sold consoles since 1995) on Xbox just because Xbox is stupid.

If it ain’t a live service game that will be improved by a larger player base, I say Xbox fans can probably forget about Sony sharing first party games with them.

@cainhurst94 Exactly. They would have happily horded all of the games from those studios if they could. They’ve had to change their tune because Game Pass is economically unsustainable.

I find it funny that Xbox has been a sinking ship, so in desperation they seem to be going multi-platform. In light of that, alot of gamers and the industry think that Sony is all of a sudden obligated to start putting their heavy hitters on Xbox.

@graymamba Yes. 👍 Definitely proves that company strategies shift with changing dynamics of the gaming industry. What was a good practice in the past might not be all that valid in the next 5-10 years.

@TrollOfWar PC is a different beast. Xbox is releasing 1st party on PS because they are a sinking ship and in desperation mode. A console can release on PC and it will not affect console sales. PC is not really a direct competitor to a console like xbox vs. PS is. Ps5 just reached 94million units sold, while releasing games on PC since 2020. Horizon zero dawn released on pc in Aug of 2020. Xbox's #'s this gen have been abysmal while they go multiplat. The proof is in the numbers.

I’m mean all Sony games on pc look like they’ll be playable on the next Xbox so Sony have probably already unwittingly supported Xbox without intending to.

If steam is on the nextbox it’s a pretty clever and sly move by MS.

@datamonkey smart as in Sony PC ports will be playable on it… not smart as in Microsoft won’t make a penny on their platform when all their diminishing userbase buys everything on steam.

@belmont Well it's a PC handheld made by Asus just with the Xbox logo and controller lay out slapped on it. I wouldn't call it an actual Xbox handheld.

@StitchJones If Steam is indeed available on the next Xbox (not sure it will be, I still have major doubts about this whole idea from Microsoft), then rest assured Microsoft and Sony will do absolutely nothing to prevent Sony games from being playable on it.

There is no way Sony would try to block their games from the Nexbox, since it wouldn't impact them negatively in the slightest. Buying Sony games via Steam on Xbox would be no different than buying them on PC.

@StitchJones I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony either stop the PC ports of their own single player games or make the time before they land on PC even longer. Sony will do everything they can to protect the PlayStation brand, that is certain.

While Xbox and PlayStation were competing directly, I think by this point people need to realize that Xbox as a console platform stopped competing. The Xbox Series prices are not competitive with PS5 prices and they stopped making games exclusive to Xbox.

And while PlayStation is not competing directly with PC, indirectly it is. Gamers on PC looking to play the newest games will buy and play on PC not on PlayStation, as the majority of all newly released games are on both systems.

Microsoft has definitely lost the console wars, they admitted that. But it's a clever move of them to transfer the Xbox platform to PC, if they can really pull it off, as PC will dominate the future of gaming. Xbox's move to PC is already in progress. Question is, what will Sony/PlayStation do when the majority of gamers is on PC?

@TrollOfWar but is it a good decision if it means that they’ll be earning even less from their platform than they are now? Just because something is good for the consumer doesn’t mean it’s good for the company (see the Gamepass experiment). If Microsoft end up losing even more revenue due to their own decision to allow steam onto their platform, what will be their next pivot/Hail Mary?

I will glad when all this is over going by rumour and we have no Xbox console as such but a hybrid thing and if rumours are true it will use steam on the PC part and with that PS games that are PC ports.

Will be interesting to see how this works out next generation. Also probably remembering next generation maybe the traditional hardware last. What are Sony going to do then in say 12 years time.

Not exactly a surprising answer. Let's not forget Microsoft are now only porting and releasing their games on Playstation because it didn't pan out as they expected with buying both Bethesda and Activision Blizzard. They were expecting everyone to flock to Xbox and Game pass because of the acquisitions and what they didn't account for is those multi-platform games only held value as just that and not as system sellers on their own. Sony on the other hand didn't make that over calculation and their first party games still make them huge profits.

Even if the next Xbox has various PC store fronts on it I can imagine many games won't exactly perform as well on the hardware in comparison to dedicated console versions designed for that hardware so even Xbox games that have a PC version will probably perform worse and it will still be better to get the version designed for the console.

Just a simple NO would suffice, so much more final than "not likely"

@OldGamer999 no doubt they’ll struggle! The transition from console hardware to full game-streaming will be the most difficult thing Sony will probably have ever had to navigate… it’ll be similarly difficult for Nintendo to contend with. I’ve always thought that Microsoft have had the forward-footing in this regard due to their standing within the PC sector, due to Windows and also due to Gamepass on PC.

My perspective has changed a little of late though, I’m not so sure Microsoft will so easily manage the transition to full game-streaming anymore. I feel pretty confident that PC Gamepass will have a similar price hike to that of consoles within the next year or so (and the PC community’s reaction will be even more vociferous than yous guys)… and the PC gaming community seem to be more and more against Microsoft lately anyway. As I’ve said many times, just because steam may be on their next box doesn’t mean it’ll help them in any meaningful way… I actually think it would speed up their exit.

@graymamba At this point, what options does Microsoft have for the Xbox? Their Xbox hardware sales are drastically declining, as a game publisher they are too large and games are too expensive to make them Xbox exclusive, Xbox is the in 4th place for many game developers in terms of release priority with Xbox support often being neglected, Windows is still the most used OS for PC gaming.

As no one buys Xbox consoles anymore, Microsoft has 3 options: 1. Go the Sega way and stop any Xbox hardware, 2. Sell the Xbox brand (not sure who would want it), or 3. Transfer to PC.

Microsoft doesn't care what is good for consumers, they care what is good for their business. And if this move strengthens their OS business then they will likely go that way

@TrollOfWar just pull out and go full third party of course! The answers been staring them in the face for most of this gen and only hubris is stopping them from capitulating to it. Xbox gamers buying all their games on the Steam store isn’t gonna help their OS.

@OldGamer999 So by your logic Nintendo as a console is also cooked? we both know that won't happen, honestly we could say the same thing about Playstation (no fanboyism here) but the fact the PS5 has sold over 92M units seems pretty clear people still want home consoles. Going on to these PC hybrids I'm sure you aware that the price of RAM has sky rocketed so much so that I believe the Steam machine will be delayed and will more then likely cost over 900 at launch and I just can't see your average player/consumer paying that price. Now will the Xbox hybrid sell well? Of course it will but I don't think it will change the balance the way things are now.
