PS3 Game Streaming Still Broken and Sony Draws Criticism

I’ll never understand why it has been such a crap show to get ps3 games running on modern devices

@BamBamBaklava89 Sony would most likely need to add specialized hardware into future PlayStations to ensure compatibility and that's simply not a cost they're willing to shoulder, especially considering it wouldn't drive as many sales as the hardcore gamer thinks it would. Not only that but a lot of these games need serious work done to them to at least bring them up to a decent resolution and stable frame rate. And even then, most of us have gotten spoiled by 60 fps anyway.

Sony is doing their best to give users value for money.

Sonys ps3 „support“ is an embarrassment. Enough time has passed. They should have ported everything over. How come some dudes achieve ps3 emulation yet sony „cant“. Gtfoh.
And now the streaming isnt even working? Unbelievable…..

@BamBamBaklava89 It's because the PS3 infastructure was a nightmare to work with. Sony did this by design with the idea that developers would focus all their energy on the PS3, and it would be too much of a pain to port those games ocer to Xbox 360. In reality, the exact opposite happened, and even Sony is having trouble in getting PS3 games to run on more powerful hardware.

@Grumblevolcano There’s always the chance for stupid decisions, but I can’t see a meaningful reason why Sony should phase down PS3 streaming prior to the announcement of local PS3 emulation.

It’s kind of sad that Sony has not put out a statement on what’s going on with this.

Just play on a PS3 like I do and forget about streaming. The awful input lag makes playing difficult even when the streaming works.

Something is broken on PlayStation and Sony hasn’t addressed it? I’m shocked!

@LiamCroft Has anyone in the team experienced a broken game library? I realized all my games that were hidden are no longer hidden and when you hide them, they don’t stay hidden once you leave the library. I don’t know if it’s a widespread issue but according to a Reddit post I saw when I googled the issue, someone had posted about it last week.

Glad I still have my PS3 and library of games for it. That's the best workaround and money saver there is for PS+ Premium

@SaucyPapi i doubt they need specialised hardware you can run ps3 games on an emulator on a pc thays weaker than a ps5 sure its patchy buts improving all the time.
I imagine cost is the main factor but surely that would pay for itself over time.

Whilst can only watch from afar Down Under where Premium has never been present,(remember when Deluxe was promoted as a "temporary" solution as Premium was expanded?),it does bring to mind the "cheap" mindset the Jim Ryan & post Ryan management have adopted regarding legacy software support.

Thankfully the baked-in hardware compatibility of ps4 into ps5 mostly worked,(apart from ironically a lot of the ps2 classics on ps4 titles in that short lived program). But despite seemingly engaging Implicit Conversions on a few titles,they never bothered with more obvious candidates like the ps2 Ratchet games or God of War 1 & 2,nevermind some of their Psygnosis ps1 games!
Moreso they really don't seem to have any of their PSN services chasing third parties for the service when, seeing the likes of Ubisoft for example stumble badly with POP etc., would make better sense to get their ps2 library on it for instance!

You saw Jim Ryan & Herman Hulst chase after acquisitions like Bungie, Nixxes, & even mobile devs & start up studios on live service disasters like Concord or Fortnite wannabes, & pivot the likes of Bluepoint,(renowed for remakes & indeed remasters like on PS3 for ICO/SOTC),making live service God of War spinoffs! Yet there was a number of PS3 first party titles ala Resistance series, Infamous, Motorstorm, Little Big Planet series, & some nice Ratchet titles all locked on the ps3!
The irony when some of those had online modes for the very "engagement" & potentially where they could be prioritising IP reboots by testing the waters with some ports!🙄

Given the price of Deluxe here,(Essential costs $103AU last i looked for 12months & never gets discounted), I'm glad I can buy individual titles, but I remain under no illusion the ps1 & ps2 content both 1st & 3rd party feels far inferior to the likes of GOG & others.

To assume that Sony is shutting down a major part of Premium after only a week of the service being broken is bordering hysterical paranoia imo.
Sony have a terrible track record with releasing statements when things go wrong.

@SaucyPapi yet Xbox can do it with theres? Backwards compatibility is a godsend for some games , one thing that put me off the ps was all the games I purchased for PS3 that I now can't play they did the same with psvr1 games not being compatible with psvr2 , it's annoying

@Theamazing1 All the successful emulators I'm aware of on PC used a TSX instruction set which no longer exists since Intel stopped supporting it. Not to mention that PS4 and PS5 don't support it to begin with since it was only supported by Intel.
