It's not often we get to report on PS3 news these days, but it seems Netflix hasn't forgotten about Sony's last-last-gen machine.
As seen on Reddit, if you boot up the Netflix app on PS3, it now says it'll "no longer be available on this device" from 2nd March, 2026.
The streaming service first came to PS3 via Blu-ray Disc in 2009, and a native app followed about a year later in the US. It was approaching 20 years of support on the console, which is pretty impressive.
It's always a shame to see services and features retire on ageing consoles, but it only makes sense as the number of people still using them grows smaller and smaller, especially now we're two generations down the line.
Sony attempted to shut down the PS Store on PS3 (and Vita) a while ago, and was forced to go back on that decision after public outcry to keep it alive.
It's still a pretty functional console, then; despite losing Netflix next month, the PS3 will at least remain the only console of its generation with a working digital store.
Are you still using Netflix on PS3? Tell us in the comments section below.

Nah the ps3 is still 5 years old… right? It’s 2011… right?
I will unsubscribe from Netflix since they didn't give us a warning with a reasonable amount of time to adjust.
Honestly surprised they supported it this long. I expect some new update would have meant a lot of work that just wasn't worth it. Fair play imo.
Stop saying the words 20 year old console so casually! It's only the length of time a child is born and goes through their school years. Possibly gets a job and gets married....yikes.
What makes matters worse I had done those things just before the PS3 launched.
shame ps3 was such a great media player
Honestly I'm surprised and impressed that it was still up there for so long.
I still have my PS3 Netflix Disc. Crazy to think that support for the PS3 is still going. I did fire mine up last year to play some older games though.
Now how the heck am I gonna watch Netflix? 😤
"the PS3 will at least remain the only console of its generation with a working digital store"
Sadly, i think this is gonna end too. I just tried to login to the store from my US and Asia account and both store keeps showing "the session has expired" over and over. Tomorrow i'm gonna try it again and if it still the same then i guess PS3 store is really dead...
Edit:
The store are working again...
This is Netflix already showing their plans for Warner Bros Games if the deal goes through, the writing's on the wall at this point. /s
Had to start being killed off fully I guess, but it remains the only PS console that can play CDs, DVDs & Blu-rays.
I legit forgot the ps3 had Netflix support lol.
I recently bought a Wingman XE dongle so that I could use a DS5 with full home button support on my PS3 (I have a drawer full of bad DS3's that I should get around to fixing, but ehhhhhh). Works fantastic - I was thinking about buying the Tales of Xillia remaster but remembered that I bought it years ago on PS3 and never played for more then 30 minutes, so that's been fun to play with. As well as some games have aged, others are just so rough. Drakengard 3 and RE6 are in the neighborhood of 25 FPS. Some games have aged much better - Spec Ops: The Line, Okami: HD, Resident Evil 4 HD, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West - all look and play wonderful on the console still.
Want to know something crazy? The XBox 360 turned 20 this past November. We are further from the launch of the 360 now than the period of time between the release dates of the NES and XBox 360 (in NA at least).
My back hurts.
@Deadlyblack I think it could support Amazon Prime and Now (Sky) too - don't know if it still can?
We stopped using our PS3 for streaming when we got a £15 Roku Express plugged into our old Sony Bravia W805 TV. The Roku still gets app/software updates even after all this time.
Now I don't have an excuse to show off my Dragon's Crown wallpaper to my friends and family smh
@trev666 Its still better then the PS5.
@IntrepidWombat Does that dongle also allow gyro controllers for the DualSense on PS5?
@IntrepidWombat i was thinking of doing the same and it completely works right? guess i'll have to check it out.
@Krlozgod The Amazon listing and reviews say that it does, but I haven't personally tried it. I think I have a game or two that use Six-Axis - I will try it later on this evening (I'm in US Central time) and report back.
@IntrepidWombat thank you bro. Do you know if rumble is also supported? Also I assume I would need one per controller, right?
@twitchtvpat The only thing it does not support is turning the console on remotely. The USB port up front is also a tad stiff. I have not tried it with a PS1 disc based game (digitals work), and my CECHA01 is YLOD in a box somewhere, so I can't test it for PS2 backwards compatibility.
For me, being able to dip in and out of games and play Drakengard 3 (which does not work with a PS4/5 controller paired via Bluetooth but works with the dongle) have been great.
@IntrepidWombat thanks i'll have to check it out , i still boot up my ps3 time to time , i actually got around to beating a few games i never finished up , but its harder to play them with the smaller ps3 controller since i'm so used to the newer ones.
My PS3 died last month gives me the double beep and shuts down I'm really pissed off because I've proper looked after it no scratches or anything. So now I'm looking for a used one nearby on Facebook as I can't seem to find any anywhere else and CEX want about £60+.
Damn, I need to get a refund after all these years for my Netflix Station 3… I mean PlayStation 3
My super slim is still under the TV, and will be unless the PS5 somehow gets a PS3 emulator. Not about to use it for streaming Netflix though!
Most streaming services on the ps3 are already dead, most got shut down 5 years ago.
I bought a Super Slim model in November because my Slim model now has difficulties detecting my Wi-Fi network. It still works, just unable to get online.
I plan on fixing it but bought a Super Slim while I try to find the appropriate channel for the fix.
Anyways, playing Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 at the moment. I do love the PS3.
@Krlozgod Rumble is good to go. Double checked with RE4 HD. Tilt, I didn't have anything to test with off hand, but you can use the tilt control to make the particles move in the XMB - I confirmed that it works there at least.
@Ristar24 honestly if you still have a working ps3 , you are much better off using that and playing a native ps3 game vs emulation
An outrage! I shall telex their office to complain!
@Ristar24 I do, and still gets used to play Daytona and Ridge Racer 7 a fair amount.
I mean the ps3 version does not show ads because they never added support for it...
@IntrepidWombat Thanks a lot for the support and sorry for the many questions. I will order one of those after my next paycheck, I also discover that there is a version to connect it on the PS2, may also grab that.
This week thanks to Push Square, Nintendo Life and the comments I have made many purchases; Cairn, Escape from Ever After and soon the Brook Wingman XE.
@Nakatomi_Uk Does it show the YLOD or is it just beeping and shutting down?
You might want to try reformatting/replacing the hard drive and possibly pop the lid and clean out many years of fluff. My brothers PS3 Slim experienced something similar and all I did was replace the hard drive with a 500GB Western Digital Blue I had knocking around, applied the latest firmware and it's been fine ever since. The amount of dust & fluff that came out of just the hard drive caddy slot was alarming (and possibly a biohazard!)
It had a fair run. Still it's the only console with a blu-ray player and CD players, that doesn't require the internet like Xbox One. XD
My PS3 Slim has issues with wifi so i cable the controllers, but got a Super Slim whenever I need to use another to check things, install all my PS3 games and other use cases.
I'll use the store till it goes down. Thing is the few games going to Switch makes it hard for me to consider some things but others I still have plenty I'll get. There is plenty still on Vita/PS3 for me to get of those consoles games or PS1/PSP stuff.
Even the Gex trilogy i watched till Switch. Any 9th gen stuff I still get on Switch as they are retro games I don't mind and would rather on Switch instead.
Thing is I hate the PS2/PSP/PS3 CD to Blu-ray menu (even on PSP for my UMD movies, most of are films I've never seen before), I prefer the 360, PS4, Xbox One menus more, so I don't use the PS3 unless I feel I need to for PS1/PS3 games (don't have a PS2 compat model as got a PS2 and don't care for them being a risky model or not).
Also my PS2 artifacts with DVDs but works fine with games so I try not to use it for watching TV series.
@Krlozgod No problem at all. I should have been more specific - make sure you get the Wingman XE2.
@sanderson72 No yellow light just double beeping and shutting down I have a 500GB spare laying around so I will give that a try thank you very much
@sanderson72 I tried the HDD swap with a working 500GB it still does the double beep and flashing red light and I hear the hard drive just stop instantly so it's dead unfortunately
@Nakatomi_Uk Sad to hear that. Don't even know where you can take them for repairs these days unless your local PC repair shop have a clue (power, thermal paste)? Used to be a place called Console Doctor in Newcastle (I think) but I think they stopped repairing PS3s.
