Re: Ghost of Tsushima's Black and White Mode Has Official Blessing of Akira Kurosawa's Estate

tatsumi

@DeanySevigny Same here. I am looking forward to doing New Game+ on the PS5 with hopefully native 4K and Kurosawa Mode.

But wait, does Kurosawa mode also mean that we don't see us wounding enemies and instead they just magically die with our katana just stroking them just like in the old movies?
The oldest movies didn't even have "slash" sounds as far as I can remember (I just watched them 2 weeks ago). Will those also be removed with Kurosawa Mode?

Re: 30 Minutes of Assassin's Creed Valhalla Gameplay Leaked Online

tatsumi

Well, it really looks like they just put a viking skin over Odyssey. I got no problem with that actually.
I just hope it won't take 2 life-times of grinding to beat the story. That was my only gripe with Odyssey.
Other than that I loved just roaming around in the game, so I hope I will love it just as much in Valhalla.

I also accepted the fact that AC has nothing anymore really to do with being an Assassin.

Re: Poll: Which Version of the PS5 Do You Plan to Buy?

tatsumi

I am quite a digital-only guy.
And seeing that it is by far not the choice of gamers, it is even better since I have a higher chance of getting one

I generally never sell games. It's annoying. I just keep adding to the library. Who knows, maybe my kids will play those games as well at some point.

Re: PS5 Is a 'Masterpiece of Systems Design', Says Epic Games

tatsumi

@Octane So you saying I as a developer should always choose money over creative freedom.
Sorry but not all of us are chasing the dollars.
I myself took a large pay cut just to be able chase my creative ideas in software engineering.
And I do far had no trouble finding similar passionate minds who hold creative vision over chasing the dollar.

Re: Ex-Nintendo Boss Reggie Fils-Aimé Interviews Neil Druckmann on The Last of Us 2

tatsumi

@HellOfaHunter I disagree.
I like when creative minds challenge us through any kind of medium, being it books, movies or games.
TLoU2 had me thinking for quite a while after finishing it. It’s a very difficult to swallow game and that’s what I liked.
It was the creative directors vision and I accept it as that and try to process it as that.
Most of the times games are just about gameplay and having fun. It’s good if on other occasions we get something else that challenges our perspective towards things.

You either do what the community wants or you stick to your own vision. These are 2 ways to go in game development.

If TLoU2 was the first game in the series, I bet it would have been received very differently.

Re: PS5 Is a 'Masterpiece of Systems Design', Says Epic Games

tatsumi

@Octane The game? Which game?

What I am saying is it all depends on the creative director of a game.
The PS5 could gain more exclusives from developers who have a certain vision that is simply not possible to do on anything other than PS5 for the foreseeable future.
If you think all devs prefer reach over realizing their vision, then you don’t know game devs very much.
Not talking about publishers who want as much money as possible.

This may get us smaller studios and indies that could see a chance in doing something new by going PS5 exclusive.
I know I would do that to realize my visions for some games. Unfortunately I don’t have a team of devs to help me do it, so I am still sticking to being a normal software engineer.

Re: PS5 Is a 'Masterpiece of Systems Design', Says Epic Games

tatsumi

@Octane I think the difference is a bit bigger than you might think. And it could be a reason some developers may choose to go exclusive with the PS5, because their vision of how their game should work might literally not run on anything other than PS5 smoothly. All thanks to the SSD.
Others then may need wo wait until PC and XSX can reach those near-instant loading times to load levels etc. or cut back in the experience and run into small loading segments in the middle of gameplay.

It will be interesting to see what exactly developers are now able to do. After all, Sony did all this because devs wanted more freedom. Meanwhile Microsoft chose a different strategy.

Re: PS5 Is a 'Masterpiece of Systems Design', Says Epic Games

tatsumi

People will talk about XSX being better because TFLOPS until they will see the actual games that could never run on the XSX because of its “slow” SSD.

Honestly for me, if I didn’t have a high end gaming PC already, I would buy an XSX for potential better graphics on multi platforms and its exclusives and the PS5 for potential never-seen-before game experiences (SSD, Haptic engine and Tempest engine combined) and its exclusives.
Both consoles seem to have a bit different targets. XSX going the “frameraaaaates” direction (which should be great for competitive games etc), whereas PS5 going the actual gameplay direction and enabling devs to envision things they could have never done before.

Re: Upcoming PS4 Games for July and August 2020

tatsumi

Just like others I also first thought of holding out with GoT for PS5. But then I thought I might want to have 2 play throughs
First one on PS4 will be as ninja and second one on PS5 with the Kurosawa filter as samurai.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Petition Demands Dramatic Story Alterations

tatsumi

People talk about whitewashing, etc. this could be called fan washing.

I accepted the artists vision and what they tried to do and have played the game without my own expectations but simply seeing what the artist had in mind. And I enjoyed it.
Would I have enjoyed an alternative story more?
I bet so, but I don’t compare the game to my own vision. I am not the developer. It’s not my story I am trying to tell but the artist trying to tell his story and his vision.
That’s how I see it.

Re: The Last of Us 2 - Essential Sequel Is Naughty Dog's Best Effort

tatsumi

Damn I had to ignore Scollurio, it’s like he is driving his own agenda of talking trash about this game.

I expect to finish the game tomorrow, then let’s see. So far I have not come across any plot holes. No TLoU1 character was disrespected so far, no narrative broken. I absolutely loved the first game and think this game goes deeper into the complex relation between Joel and Ellie and I completely enjoy that part of it.

Re: Of Course The Last of Us 2 Is Being Review Bombed

tatsumi

@TheDude89 I am 14 hours in and I completely disagree on everything you said.
I don’t feel any agenda, any political undertones.
All characters feel completely natural in der own “diverse” way. Nothing feels forced to push any agenda in your face.
And I am a white male caucasian, who likes his manly self very much.

It’s a very simple thing for me. If I can just exchange female lesbian with male hetero or whatever else and it feels like it would work out the exact same way, then they did a good job making it feel natural. And this is the case in TLoU. It would all work exactly the same way if we simply exchange characters with different genders and religions and gender preferences. Because it simply feels as natural as anything else out there. So I think they did a great job at it.

Re: PS5 Game Scarlet Nexus Debuts Short Slice of Gameplay

tatsumi

I feel like all anime games are kind of the same. Same as all anime being pretty much the same.
At first I even thought it’s again some Code Vein stuff.
Looking at the Japanese PSN store I can’t distinguish most JRPGs even. There is just too much samey stuff.

Still the combat looks good and the graphics as well.

Right now quite a lot of people seem to believe the reviewers were all paid to give a good review. And nobody is honest. Its just ridiculous and I bet the game will be unnecessarily review-bombed by a lot of morons.
I was skeptical at first and wanted to wait for reviews. Reviews are here and are amazing. Plus some other quite normal youtube content creators who got an early copy and played the game (plus absolutely loved the first one) were also blown away.

I pre-ordered and am hoping it will be a devastatingly emotional journey that will have my wife question who in the world could hurt her man so much he just lies on the floor crying all weekend. I am ready to be emotionally ripped into shreds.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Reveal Event Plays to Sony's Strengths

tatsumi

I recommend people who have a 4K TV to rewatch the trailers in 4K.
I am quite impressed by the level of detail (especially far away) I can see in Horizon and Ratchet and Clank.
I think HZD and Ratchet and Clank might be 4K/30fps. Youtube does not provide a 4K/60fps selection like it does on Sackboy. Just an assumption of course.

Whoever says this doesn't look like next gen has not understood the strength of the PS5 and what makes it next gen.

Overall I have now seen around 5-6 games in this event that may be a day-one buy for me.

@Cybrshrk I have watched Gran Turismo 7 and I don't see any pop ins. All I see is different mesh levels and shadow resolutions in different distances (the LOD problem that UE5 tries to solve). Has nothing to do with popins. The objects are loaded in, but the GPU probably just can't render the level of detail and keep 60fps.

I have watched the point at 2:31 a few times now and I am not sure if the trees on the right are "popping in" or its just the shadow rendering + mesh model that makes it look like a pop in. Would be weird if it pops in, when you can actually see other trees further away that are already loaded in, so I would guess its a different issue from a pop in. I guess we need to wait for a DigitalFoundry analysis.

Re: EA Play 2020 Postponed to 18th June in Support of BLM Protests

tatsumi

@Kienda FYI, among all corporates, EA has donated more than any other company to organizations to help fight against racism.

https://www.ea.com/amp/news/ea-actions-against-racial-injustice

“ We’re contributing $1 million to organizations dedicated to the fight for racial justice in the U.S. and against discrimination around the world. [...] In addition to our company contribution, we’ll double match any funds that you donate to these and any other local organizations through our YourCause program during the month of June.“

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire Livestream Postponed to 25th June

tatsumi

Just like with the Sony event, since the game doesn’t release anytime soon anyway, I don’t really care. I’ve seen enough of the game and it’s preordered anyways.

But I can’t shake the feeling that only when something happens in America, people suddenly care to this kind of degree.

I’m trying to find out a bit how companies reacted last year during the Hong Kong protests with delays and such. Granted, the Cyberpunk show was a day before the protests as it appears.

This is a bit interesting though:
https://www.essentiallysports.com/twitter-calls-out-activision-for-double-standards-blizzard-hearthstone-esports-hong-kong-protest-news/

I’ll definitely keep a close eye from now on and hope these companies will act the same whenever something somewhere else happens.

Re: PS5 Reveal Event Scheduled for Thursday Has Been Postponed

tatsumi

@get2sammyb As I said, I am fine with postponement. Sony can do what they want and what they feel is right.

I personally just don't get the connection between a world-wide gaming event and whatever is happening in only America. Because I don't live in America and how I see it is that if a company postpones a world event for only America, they should also postpone for any similar things that happen outside of America. Means they would have to postpone is quite often. Equality for the world.

@torne No I don't know exactly what is going on. I am not American, I never lived in America, I don't care about America. There is enough ***** going on here in Japan regarding racism (and not only racism, but sexual harassment, domestic violence, lots of stuff because of inequality between men and women, because of simply being a foreigner, especially black, and so on) as well and many other countries, our media is just so corrupt that you never hear of it (you barely hear in Japanese media about the Kurd guy who went through police brutality here in Japan and did a demonstration just this past weekend, granted he wasn't killed. But he was injured). What I am saying is simply for Sony to treat the whole world as equal. But too often I feel like what happens in America seems more important than whatever happens elsewhere in the world and I do feel a bit sick of that, plus I just woke up and need a coffee. I wish giant companies would sometimes stand behind people in Japan as well.

Just don't get me wrong, I do respect Sony's decision. Its a nice gesture. I am just sick that I never hear of such a gesture outside of the US.

It is kind of tough finding the right balance of words between what I want to say and still being sensitive to the discriminated people in America. Maybe after I had a coffee.

Re: PS5 Reveal Event Scheduled for Thursday Has Been Postponed

tatsumi

I honestly don’t get it. Yeah it’s a nice gesture of Sony, but I don’t see the connection between a gaming giant and what happened in a single country to a single person.

Every day lots of people die around the world because of injustices.
But when 1 black person in America dies through an injustice, then it’s some kind of special thing?

I mean I don’t care that they postpone it. But the reason for postponing it to me means they could have postponed it all year around due to injustices being committed.
I don’t live in Europe and I don’t live in America. It makes me feel a bit as if Americans think they are more important than other countries. Here in Japan Sony would never postpone anything for such reasons. And I bet if the event would have been held in Japan, it wouldn’t have been postponed.

I’m probably just sick that the world always only cares about America.

Re: ANTHEM's Big Overhaul Is Still a Long Way From Release

tatsumi

@redd214 While that would be great, it would enrage a lot of people.
Unless of course legacy players get a free copy and that info would stand on top of everything. The only way is to make it free for current players who helped them getting through all this mess.

But yeah, BioWare for now is even using the "NEXT" suffix just like NMS NEXT. I suppose at least internally they are using Anthem NEXT as the overhaul, analog to NMS.

@Agramonte I think you got a bit of a misunderstanding about the 30 man team. The 30 people are just there for prototyping the hypothetical ideas and designs they came up with since last year. They will create multiple prototypes, see what works, go back to the drawing board, rinse and repeat. Until the best parts and best vision prevails. And then they will ramp up production and have a lot more people working on it to be able to release it.

What I hope is that the community can get some early access to try out some of that prototyping and help making sure they build something the majority of the community wants.

This is practically the thing they have NOT done in those 6 years they "worked" on Anthem. So they are now going back and trying to develop the game the correct way.

Re: ANTHEM's Big Overhaul Is Still a Long Way From Release

tatsumi

@ApostateMage these are totally different teams. Why would SWTOR/ANTHEM team work on DA4?

@topic I’m still waiting for another reason to jump back in. I spent 400hours or so in the game, just because the core gameplay is so much fun.

I rather they take their time and just make sure they turn it into something great!
There are many players hoping for a good outcome. Most of us don’t play anymore, because there is nothing to do anymore, but it doesn’t mean we won’t jump back in the very first chance we get.

And I still don’t get all the hate this game gets from people who haven’t even played it in its current state. Pretty much everybody I see in reddit who bought it recently is positively surprised about the game. Despite it actually being quite a failure of a game.

@redd214 NMS is a far better comparison. A game that didn’t deliver what was promised, was told to be all lies. Sound familiar? And BioWare is a far larger team with a lot more resources. And it has a very strong core in its gameplay mechanics. Plus great characters and so far good world building. I see no reason why they wouldn’t succeed.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 324

tatsumi

I’m already 55h into AC Odyssey and I finished the main odyssey quests plus the first DLC.
Now I am getting into the Atlantis DLC.

AC Odyssey is indeed a very long Odyssey.
It is getting very exhausting. The quality of the content is quite good, but I feel it could have been compressed into less hours.
Looking forward to hopefully finishing it this weekend and finally moving on to other (shorter) games!
