Re: 'I'm So Happy': Japanese Players Rejoice Over Finally Buying Cut-Price PS5

tatsumi

@SeaDaVie yeah but for us who earn YEN, Tokyo is super expensive, because wages in Japan have been stagnant for 20-30 years.

Right now with the weak yen and overall inflation, things have been quite rough for Japan, so seeing the PS5 for that price is a huge relief in a time where everything just becomes unbearably expensive due to the weak yen.

Re: PS6 Release Date Touted for 2027, Cheaper But Less Powerful Than Next Xbox

tatsumi

As usual I will get it day one, since I enjoy having the best quality for Sony games anyways.

I’m actually looking forward to PS5/6 cross gen games. The PS5 still has a lot of life in it, the PS6 will probably just feel like a PS5 Pro Pro. Our games right now are good, we just need more of the good stuff running on the already incredible engines from Sony. Reduce budget, increase efficiency and release smaller games quicker that utilize those engines.

Path tracing coming with PS6 is just the icing on the cake. It will most likely need to wait until PS7 for AI to find its way properly into actual gameplay elements instead of graphics, when we will see an actual revolutionary jump.

I just hope the PS6 hardware sales won’t be so abysmal that Sony feels the hardware market is done and dusted.

@JustMyOpinion
“ And I thought only my opinion was valid, no one else's............”

oh no, that puts your username into an entirely new light!

Jokes aside, I think one thing to keep in mind is it’s not “westerners feudal Japan fantasy”. The game represents “Kurosawas feudal Japan fantasy” very well, which made it also very beloved here in Japan. To me it didn’t feel at all like “westerners” fantasy, but as a Kurosawa fan, it felt like a love letter to Kurosawa.

@DennisReynolds I don’t have a problem with him in the game. Also you are not from Japan, so you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about in terms of Yasuke popularity here.

I am not criticizing Yasuke’s existence in the game, but how UbiSoft tried to spin his popularity with that particular video of that “expert”.
Most Japanese have no clue who the dude is.
It’s like putting words into peoples mouths in Japan.

But that was just a one time thing that’s over now, so what annoys me most right now is how different many character names are in Japanese vs English. One if which is a very important character.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows (PS5) - Striking Open World RPG Is a Real Cut Above

tatsumi

@DennisReynolds um… I never had an issue with their depiction. I am playing the game and enjoying it. I just don’t get the inconsistency between both languages. And I dislike how they had some “expert” saying Yasuke is very popular in Japan, when in reality no Japanese gives a damn about him. There are things that feel disrespectful towards the Japanese culture. I can’t know how it is with other AC games since I don’t know enough about those cultures. But I have lived in Japan for 10 years and obviously am surrounded by a lot of Japanese I talk to.
I don’t mind Yasuke being a playable character in the game. The story they try to build around him seems interesting enough.

Other than that I can feel that the majority of devs who worked on the game really respects the culture with how much energy they poured into some details. But some potentially upper management decisions are very questionable.

@ShogunRok
Did you notice that the character names of a bunch of characters in English and Japanese differ?
For example Sorin (E) <> Sogen (JP) or Nagata Fujibayashi (E) <> Masayasu Fujibayashi (JP) or Nagetore (E) <> Yuhei (JP).

Especially the names in the English version that are “changed” don’t really sound very Japanese to me. Do you think we can have an explanation from Ubisoft? It really takes some immersion out for me sometimes.

You can have a look at the Japanese wiki for Masayasu.

So far I really enjoy the game, but this, sometimes the choice of the music they got and some weird misinformation they spread over the popularity of Yasuke, makes it all seem like they don’t really respect the Japanese culture and somehow try to westernize it too much.

Re: PS5 Pro Is By Far the Best Way to Play Monster Hunter Wilds on Console

tatsumi

I originally bought the PS5 pro as quick as possible just for MHWilds and I’m happy I did. So far i couldn’t really enjoy any NEW games that are PS5 Pro enhanced and had to just re-play some games I already finished on the base PS5. MHWilds will be the first brand new game for me to play where the difference to PS5 Pro will be felt.

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Player Count Dwarfs Every Medieval Battle in History

tatsumi

Glad for the success, but I tried playing the first game on PC the past 2 weeks and bugs just ruined my experience. Couldn’t get this torchlight bug fixed where I constantly get caught by guards even to I am holding a lit torchlight. Luckily I only paid $5 for it.

But I definitely do not see myself spending $60 and a risk to have my experience ruined by bugs again.

Re: Fans Are Buying Fewer Boxed Video Games Than Ever in the US

tatsumi

I only buy Nintendo switch games physically. I don’t even know why exactly. It just feels right. There is something great about it. But I lost that sensation for physical PS games since PS3, and for PC since steam. I haven’t bought a physical game for those platforms since the digital stores existed.

But there is something nice about putting in a cartridge with the Nintendo switch. It reminds me of gameboy days. And the Nintendo eshop experience is horrible anyway.

Re: Do You Really Want Devs to Make Lower Budget, More Original Games for PS5?

tatsumi

@tangyzesty sorry, which games are trying to ape persona? Only atlus is making that type of game.

Prince of Persia on the other hand - while a great game - is a metroidvania, which is a genre that is absolutely packed with games, similar to souls likes.

I actually don’t even have a problem with souls likes in terms of the mechanics (the Jedi games are soulslikes to a degree, paired with some metroidvania). I am just tired of all these dark grotesque looking games, as if it’s Halloween season all year around. Give me more colorful and fun games like Astrobot. Luckily I got a Nintendo switch that is full of such colorful games.

I fully get why guerilla went for something colorful like Horizon, but there we somehow now got too many third person adventure/RPG games from Sony.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Star Wars Outlaws?

tatsumi

Finished the game and gave it an 8. It’s a really good game, but is lacking all the polish to make it to a 9, and it is lacking something special in terms of characters and story for a 10.

But as a Star Wars fan, this is the best game to get immersed into a Star Wars universe.

Re: Destiny 2: The Final Shape (PS5) - Bungie's Promise Fulfilled

tatsumi

I’m mostly playing the story of Destiny, no chance for me to get into raids (simply no time and friends).

And I really appreciate what Bungie did with this expansion. story and Narrative-wise it is probably the most complete expansion they have done so far. A lot of cutscenes, a lot of explanations around things, a lot of time used to get closer to the NPCs and the world.

I’m happy with the purchase and looking forward to how this continues over those 3 acts.

I’m definitely happy now that I stuck around through all the horrible past expansions (with some exceptions), so I could enjoy this finale.

Re: Yooka-Laylee Remaster Confirmed as Yooka-Replaylee, PS5 Version Likely

tatsumi

@__jamiie
But I don’t want to play 1080/30 when I can play 4k/60.

Granted they could have gone with dynamic resolution scaling and 60fps patch. But I think this is also them preparing their engine for current gen/next gen games, so they need to put that kind of work in anyway for their next project.

So why not then use the enhancements also on a previous game and monetize it to fund the next game?
