There's a pretty good chance that you're reaching the end of your playthrough of The Last of Us: Part II and wondering what's next for the franchise. Does Naughty Dog have any plans for DLC and what could an expansion of that nature focus on? What did Tommy's journey through Seattle look like before joining up with Ellie? How did the truce between the WLF and the Seraphites play out and how was it actually broken? Well, it doesn't look like we'll get answers to any of those questions in the form of DLC.
As part of a spoilercast with Kinda Funny, Neil Druckmann went on record stating that the team won't be doing any DLC for The Last of Us: Part II. "There are no plans for DLC." A pretty definitive answer there from the studio's vice president so don't get your hopes up for anything in the near future. However, we do still have the multiplayer side-project from Naughty Dog to look forward to. Back in September 2019, the developer described this as a vision "beyond an additional mode that could be included with our enormous single player campaign." We expect this one to arrive on PlayStation 5, and when you take the combat and movement mechanics of The Last of Us: Part II and put them into a multiplayer environment, it could be something pretty special.
Were you hoping to see some single player DLC for The Last of Us: Part II? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I wonder what they’re working on next? I reckon they’ll be spending a little time on the PS5 upgrade patch and then onto a new project, either Uncharted or a new IP.
@nessisonett plus the multiplayer, if they are still doing it.
As much as I disliked the story, I don’t think there is any dlc they could add that could make it better. It’s better just to forget it and move on, just like Game of Thrones.
@nessisonett tlou3 or i hope uncharted with new characters... drake's story is done so i hope they end it there lol instead of bring back ol drake while we get to play as cassie.😂
Only a few hours in - really enjoying it so far. The game has already hit me like a ton of bricks.
It's fine if there is no DLC. Having a "complete" game is more satisfying.
I hope they come up with a new IP.
Uncharted us pretty much done. They could start something new but it really doesn’t have to.
TLoU of course also could be continued but I feel they should better give that one a rest.
There's not much that'd make a worthwhile DLC that wouldn't be better saved for a third part if they eventually do one. Maybe Dina on the farm after Ellie leaves. A prequel one like the first game also wouldn't be worth is since we're given enough knowledge and context of what Jackson life was like for everyone.
I'm team new IP for the next ND project after the multiplayer.
Ps5 killer mp app will be factions 2.0 for sure
@thefirst Retweet
Can’t they put in multiplayer? I thought it was stupid how they left it out when a lot of people loved it. I don’t know what the PlayStation fanbase has against Multiplayer games but not everyone wants to game by themselves all the time.
I would love it if they did a complete 180 and made a new mascot platformer IP.
@tatsumi Not just a new IP, something different from Uncharted and The Last of Us. They should consider making fun games that don’t take themselves seriously instead of these movies with the same template. They should partner with another studio and make something great.
@OmegaStriver A. The story is great and it'll definitely be remembered as such I the long term.
B. Even if they did want to forget about it and move on, the internet won't let them. Just like Game of Thrones.
@Enuo agree. The saltiness this game has caused while entertaining for a while has now gotten old. These salty bois are just attention seeking with their me too hate wagon. Great game GOTG and I just completed upping my score from 8.5/10 to a 9
The more I reflect on the game the more I realise I need more. A shame there’s no DLC planned, but that doesn’t rule out something meatier, right? Maybe they could bundle a short story with the multiplayer game?
@Enuo I came across a review of it today from Upper Echelon Gamers on YouTube that is put more eloquently than I’d put it but shares my exact opinion, if you’d like to check it out. The story was presented, horribly. Yes it will be remembered, but definitely not fondly and will effect me in regard to buying future ND games.
@OmegaStriver Keep telling yourself that.
I would totally play the multiplayer. I loved the original factions; even moreso than the story of TLOU. I would have bought TLOU2 if it had multiplayer, I had so much fun with my friends playing it.
I might just reinstall it to see if it's as good as I remember!
Makes sense. For how disappointed I was with the final few hours of the game, the story is pretty complete and wraps most loose ends well enough that there's not a great deal of need for any DLC.
Feels weird to say it now after so long waiting but the game is done. It's out and it is what it is.
I am interested to see what they do with a standalone multiplayer game, but that's not really my thing.
Why was this article not marked for spoilers?
I'd love to see an Abby DLC skin for Everybody's Golf, personally.
I just finished the game today, and am completely and totally satisfied with the way things end. However, I am very much looking forward to the multiplayer eventually. I'd love to see Naughty Dog refocus on something new, instead of anymore sequels or DLC for this series or Uncharted.
Personally, I want them to move on after this game because it was intense, no need to push it further.
I already figured this was the case so it doesn’t bum me out especially with how content packed and high quality the base game was plus I’m too happy to be upset today because Liverpool are champions Baby
@Jslade I truly believe their next game is going to be a new I.P and it’s going to be Sci-fi. There’s just way too many hints in tlou part 2 for it not to be
@Constable_What it is and with the absolutely amazing gameplay of part 2 the MP is going to be out of this world
@OmegaStriver cool you wanted confirmation bias and you found it good for you. Saying the story was presented terribly is like saying Mementos story was presented terribly and that’s just a big fat NO
@get2sammyb if anything that’s what i think they’ll do
@Akurusu I’m sorry their games are fun and they will never go back to making fluff they are just too talented to waste their talents on stuff like that
@thefirst I’m so tired of when something is serious it’s pretentious and it’s as ridiculous as saying a fun and simple game is fluff and hollow. Can both those examples be true yeah I guess but most of the time it’s not and being serious doesn’t make a game pretentious. If they were treating their audience like they were dumb or talking down to them while acting like they know it all yeah you could call them pretentious but that is absolutely not the case so it’s a ridiculous thing to say.
Thank Goodness.
Beat the game yesterday and there is no need for DLC or a part 3 unless for some reason they think we want to continue playing as Abby.
I didn't hate the game but i didn't like it either. Hope to recoup some of my money this weekend by selling it.
@dark_knightmare2 Funny, I thought Memento was overly-complicated and a tad pretentious, too.
In that case, though, there was at least one major gimmick. Here there were a bunch of small gimmicks and some characters who do truly irrational things. In one case you could say "they're just a kid" and technically they don't force anyone to try to fix their issues, but they keep acting out and trigger many bad results.
Later on we seem to be meant to see them as innocent, even a force for good. But they've got a long way to go to redeem their past actions. In fact, by the end of the story, it's hard to feel positively about almost any of the characters.
@nessisonett After collecting those cards, I really want them to do a sci-fi super hero game with those characters. I can't be the only one, right?
Good. I hope they have a nice break and then focus on that new IP of theirs with great characters pulling an enjoyable story for the players to feel good about, without trying to 'teach' how to empathy or whatever.
I hope they never touch it ever again.
Is anyone going to talk at all about the false advertising from trailer to game?
I think they ahould so a new IP. TLOU is done and Uncharted has 5 entries in the series. Time for something fresh i think. Saying that, if i had to pick something ND have already worked on id go an Uncharted with a young Sully.
Let's hope Naughty Dogs next game will be a soulless multiplayer shooter or just another mediocre open-world game with a predictable story. I'm bored with all these unique games we are obliged to play lately!
Just an awful game. Have been excited for years and am disgusted at how it turned out. Good riddance.
But maybe Druckmann's words is just a workaround for not telling they work on some standalone stuff, like it eventually happened to be with Uncharted 4?
Like with God of War, it's long enough and tells the story the devs set out to tell. Regardless of what people think (I'm not a fan of the story), there's no need to add anything because it feels like a complete experience.
The 2nd half of the game should have been the DLC
@OmegaStriver except game of thrones season 8 is garbage and this is not, at all
@sawaoyamanaka
Playing through the game you can tell the specific parts of the game that will be used for multi-player.
@DotM Because films and games haven't been doing it for years, right?
Change the record, the one you're playing is boring.
@Akurusu
Sony has very much positioned themselves as story based solo games for a majority of their exclusives. TLOU 2 will get online play but will it be an add on or will they charge you for it. That has not been clarified.
@Crimson_Ridley
Just because you are obedient and swallow everything that comes your way, it doesn't mean everyone should be like that.
@DotM I don't, but unfortunately you do. You jumped on the bandwagon, because you need people to tell you how to think in life. It's pretty sad, I feel for you.
Maybe a smaller game like lost legacy involving other characters.
I'd habe thought they would add a grounded mode via dlc like the first game on ps3.
Can we keep things civil, please? Some people like the game, some don't, everyone is entitled to their opinion. No need to be at each other's throats all the time.
From what I can tell, I can't imagine this being a bad thing. Seems like the universe has run its course, and to be honest, this game never even needed to be made to begin with.
@hotukdeals Interesting, I should read those again. Never donned on me to link them to their future multiplayer game.
@thefirst but did you forget you have NO RIGHT to criticize this game ? Haha fanboys are as toxic as haters these days...
Well the big rumour is San Diego studio is making the new Uncharted game so ND have to do a new IP surely.
A Part III would be overkill so with the new generation I think its time for a fresh start
Obviously we aren't getting anything so let's just drop the whole conversation
Personally I wouldn't touch TLOU again unless it's a prequel with Joel and Ellie cos if they try to continue with Part 2's story I think they will be shocked at how many people will refuse to part with their money.
Honestly, don't want DLC. But would love to see a Part 3 with some characters we see at the end of the game.
Big enough game not to warrant more single player DLC, however I wouldn't say no if it happens. Looking to Platinum my first Naughty Dog game, made simpler by not including any multiplayer. At least when they tag it on the trophy set will be separate (wish all games did that, when they contain a multiplayer element).
TIP for mopping up, you can switch on enhanced listen mode and auto grab in accessibilities. I only found that out after 20 hours lol
@Akurusu Not been a fan of MP since Half-life 2 Deathmatch and all things Valve. Don't see why they can't do two trophy sets. Keep everyone happy. MP just eats too much time.
I would like NG to branch out to maybe a different style of game. Maybe a first person shooter set during the Vietnam war. That conflict could do with a gritty realistic game set during that time and it could tell an amazing story. Just my thoughts.
@dark_knightmare2 I liked Momento, it was done well, unlike the TLoU2. I knew I’d receive negativity on here, I’ve seen many fawning all over it. For all the sites I’ve visited, this site is heavily swayed in regard to this particular conversation.
@AFCC The game is not garbage, just the story.
@get2sammyb I'm thinking the MP will be a WLF vs Seraphite thing which could have nifty story stuff on both sides worked into a campaign!
I want to see the Ellie and Tommy reunion after her return.
Tommy: Is it done?
Ellie: Yeah... Abby got what she deserved
Tommy: Okay
@dark_knightmare2 Fluff? Who’s talented? The developers or the movie animators they hired after they burned— Er, never mind. Not everyone wants to always play a social commentary that taps into a false sense of underserved intellect.
@Crowley22g Well you missed out on a lot. You don’t have to get trophies. Trophy hunting just seems like a waste of time to me.
Game is already long enough and feels like 2 games on one
@get2sammyb same but i'm hoping more for a part 3 following Abby and Nev as they continue to find the fireflies and maybe have a bit more hope for a cure and to rebuild something or a civilisation.One way or another I'd love to see more of this world
@Akurusu Sorry should have said I did play Factions from the first game, it got a real boost when it landed on PS+ I do hope they add it to the second, so many great locations. MP in general eats a lot of time. Prefer single player or co-op, thinking Far Cry 5 for example, shame it only had two player on the main game. Collectibles are not for everyone, Ubisoft tend to throw them around like confetti.
@carlos82 If there is a part III, I'm definitely expecting Lev to be a playable character.
@dark_knightmare2 I remember in the Art of Naughty Dog book that came out a few years back, there was a small chapter with some concept art for an abandoned sci fi game. So, yeah maybe they've went back to it with a new idea. I'd really like that. See something different from them.
@OmegaStriver It's not that bad imo
@Enuo No the story is crap, it’s last writing, hypocritical and generally poor, you don’t care for any of the characters at all, apart from Ellie and she’s not as good as the first game. Sorry but the first game was amazing, a true liege of art, but that was made a different team, the sequel is just poor lazy writing made by another team and it shows.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L You’d do well then to also respect people’s rights to complain about the game.... I do believe I’ve not stated my opinion as fact, if you take ANY comment in a random forum as fact then more fool you. What is a FACT is many people also hate the games story.
I just want to say that I loved the game as there is probably a large amount of people who enjoyed it and aren't compelled to write it online.
A game has never made me feel this way before. Would absolutely love a sequel, but I'd be up for a new IP as a palate cleanser first
@OmegaStriver Upper echelon gamers nailed it with that review.
Also, that beginning of the review is pure gold...and it trully says something how predictable people behaviour can be in general.
Definately recommend watching it (for both haters and fanboys alike).
probably best the studio is dissolved, sell it to Microsoft or something
@OmegaStriver it's a narrative driven game, linear, focused on story and characters, to say only the story is garbage and not the game itself is like all the brainwashed kids on the tinternets saying oh it's only cosmetic it doesn't matter
I wish naughtydogs make a remake of last of us 1 with new engine and graphical enhanced for ps5
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L If you can’t accept by default that anyone posting on here is giving their ‘opinion’, then that’s your problem, your taking it way way way too seriously, you’ve been locked up in lockdown too much and need to get out.
Oh and it IS fact, because it’s a story, it’s open by it’s nature to criticism and opinions and those are facts as held by those who have them. Yours is no more valid then anyone else’s.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L Thats the nature of a story, no one will ever always like the same story, they are open to criticism and opinions like a car design. You like what you like, I think TLOU2 has lazy writing in it and don’t like the story. But I loved TLOU1.
@mini_piekarnik "probably best the studio is dissolved, sell it to Microsoft or something"
Thanks for the laugh. By all means, keep dreaming.
You don’t say! lol. Let’s move on.
@OmegaStriver I think the perfect dlc would simply be Ellie waking up at the end of the game and realizing the tlou2 was just a nightmare.
@naruball almost as funny as ND unapologetically abusing staff, throwing out false copyright claims and being generally awful to fans, never mind that they made an unwanted sequel.
@mini_piekarnik
1. Unwanted for you and others. Sorry to break it to you, but you're not the center of the universe.
2. "being generally awful to fans"
Sure, buddy.
Like I said, keep dreaming.
@naruball there isn't any need to get personal by suggesting that I'm self centred or suggesting that being self centred is bad, if you think ND hasn't been awful to fans then you need to go and do some research
I was crushed that there is no MP in TLOU2! I didn't read any stories about it prior to release and so my friend, who I played TLOU1 MP with, bought a copy last week and I said ok man I'm heading to the store, let's meet up tonight to play. When he told me it had no MP I almost fell over. A rush of anger and bewilderment came over me. TLOU1 MP was my favorite MP of all time and I've played most of them. I didn't buy a copy cause single player just ain't enough and I won't until MP is released. When I do buy the game, I want to experience single player and MP at the same time, enhancing the experience of both. I'm sorry but after all these years? Single Player Only? Really ND?
