It's more pie in the sky magic math from Microsoft in my opinion.

Removing the online paywall does make sense if they're basically releasing a PC, but it cuts massively into their business model.

Pair that with the fact they're seemingly going to allow you to bypass their storefront and purchase games from wherever you like, and the only option is for them to flog the hardware at a significant profit.

This reads like a controlled leak to counter recent negativity, by the way.

@Dan12836666 I think Avowed will come next year personally. Not sure about South of Midnight, they may not think it's worth the cost of porting it.

(And as we can see from this story, absolutely everything they do know is about hitting that 30% profit margin.)

@trev666 They're a multiformat publisher. We'd be writing exactly the same story if this was EA, Take-Two, SEGA, or any of the other major companies.

@Jacko11 To be clear "adaptation" is my wording. I suspect it would have been a totally different type of The Last of Us experience, adapted for mobile.

@orvisbean101 Yeah, I was thinking the same. I was thinking like, if the Sony people all had dinner together in China that night, the conversation must have been pretty interesting.

@orvisbean101 It sounds like Tencent had no interest in making The Last of Us. They wanted to make Horizon.

But for reasons we'll probably never understand, Sony travelled to China expecting to see a The Last of Us pitch, but got shown Horizon again (after they rejected the previous proposal).

@Jacko11 Not really. The Horizon they pitched would have been brand new, set in Asia. And I imagine The Last of Us game Sony was expecting to discuss would have been brand new too.

Worth noting Alan Wake 2 is also still available with Essential, so when you pair that with these Extra games it really is a very compelling month.

They usually announce the dates for the next one after the previous one finished. But I guess the venue switch delayed this announcement.

@rusty82 I doubt they will port Infinite. I wouldn't be surprised if the "future" of Halo is remakes for a while — although this leaker does mention Halo 7 so who knows.

This seems like a thankless task to me. Change too much and the vocal fans will revolt. But don't change enough and what's the point — especially when they clearly want to pull in new fans.

It's all going to be very interesting to see how they present it — and when they pull the PlayStation plaster off too.

I agree, it'd be cool to get remasters of the originals from Nixxes. They are great games.

@Frmknst A lot of people do care about this. Totally understand your perspective, but I think people buying physical generally expect a premium experience.

What I don't understand is why publishers haven't realised this.

If they're selling ~20% of their software physically, I'm not sure why you wouldn't go the extra mile and put a booklet/poster/whatever inside.

People appreciate that sort of thing. And you're not losing much money because you already know ~80% of your sales are digital anyway.
