@MrPeanutbutterz I think you could enjoy this as just a racing game to be honest. I'm not a big Star Wars fan either, but the cutscenes were cool and the locations look nice.
From what I saw, it's separate from any of the actual movie stuff, so it's just "Star Wars vibes", which I can tolerate.
@Golem25 From what I could see of the campaign, landspeeders, speeder bikes, and skim speeders were the only options.
But worth noting I was starting a new game and only got to play for two hours. I wouldn't be surprised if you unlock podracing as you progress through the campaign.
Specifically on what I played, it was a separate mode.
@RobN Agreed. I must admit, I was surprised when I failed the first time because I'm just not used to this in racing games.
Now maybe I'm just not very good, but it does seem like the devs really want you to work for those victories, and I did find myself coming away satisfied with a few fourth or fifth places.
@Mes_Urson I found the handling very fun. All the vehicles feel quite different. The landspeeders are quite "grounded" and you can really "kick" them around corners, while the speeder bikes feel a bit more nimble and fidgety.
The skim speeders were most interesting as they almost control like a plane, where you hit corners by turning them almost on their side.
@CheesyOatcake It definitely has similarities to WipEout for sure and there is a good sense of speed. I'm not sure it's as FAST as WipEout, but I only played on normal difficulty so there might be ways to go even quicker.
I'd say it's slightly different because you're in open, outdoor environments as opposed to narrow tracks, but I think people who like WipEout will also like this.
@Mes_Urson As we're seeing, EVERYONE is affected by this. It's not greed. I don't think any of these manufacturers want to charge these prices.
I don't know what the answer is besides not offer a product at all. Based on what they're saying, seems like they're losing money on each PS5 unit they sell in 2026 as well.
@themcnoisy "It's Sony who needs to adapt, the push to become a super premium device will backfire long-term."
The reporting was that they WERE designing the PS6 with cost-cutting in mind.
The problem is what was probably going to be fairly affordable has now been turned upside down by this memory crisis. (In addition to global economic issues like tariffs, fuel costs, etc etc etc.)
As we've seen with PS5, even dated tech now costs more than it ever has.
I'm worried things aren't really going to change anytime soon, at which point I'm not really sure how much you could feasibly delay it. They need to put out a new product at some point.
The other risk with delaying — aside from the costs implicated by losing your spot in the supply chain — is that it launches really outdated. That is unless they start over from scratch, which seems unlikely to me.
Personally, I just don't expect any exclusives at all from PS6. I think we're cross-gen for the foreseeable future.
Games will look and run better on the new hardware, and that'll be it. If that's not compelling to you, then you stay on PS5.
@Swirly I guess you can just plug any controller in as it's Steam right? So one way to cut costs if people already have a DualSense or Xbox pad or whatever.
@Northern_munkey It's very simple: if you sell a product for $500 but it costs $600 to make it, then you lose $100 per unit.
Sell 100 at a $100 loss, that's a $10,000 deficit.
They obviously don't feel they can make up for this deficit through software/microtransactions/subscriptions/accessories per unit. Thus, solution is to sell fewer units and profit off the existing install base they have.
@GigaGaia This is clearly only true in your imagination. Even the ancient components have soared in price. This is a reality that's hitting every hardware manufacturer hard at the moment.
It's more that they're purposefully intending to sell fewer to "manage the impact on profitability", which tells us they're probably losing money per unit even after the price hike.
@CKFilms Makes no sense. To my knowledge, there's no other game that works like this, so if everyone else can figure it out then I'm not sure why Microsoft can't.
My guess is that this is because Microsoft wants you to sign in to an Xbox account, which makes the "local offline play" technically "online".
Purely my speculation, but it's stupid and should be fixed.
@Oram77 I don't think it's secretive necessarily, it's just a simple case of they don't speak to the media. They'll do maybe one or two press interviews a year at most.
As a website editor it absolutely sucks, but I also can't blame them; compare to Xbox's need to constantly be in the media cycle, and that's where the contradictions start to appear.
@RoomWithaMoose @somnambulance Sadly, it won't sell. The character is popular enough from a cult perspective, but I doubt it'd do 200k copies worldwide.
The industry is sadly so different now. People are noisy on sites like this (and I get it) but there's really no real point in releasing games into a very busy marketplace that make $1 million profit max.
No guarantee it'd sell on Switch either by the way. The Patapon/Freedom Wars ports don't look like they did very well. The market for stuff like this just doesn't exist anymore.
@cburg I wouldn’t say the industry is wrecked but it’s certainly a tough time.
As expected the massive acquisition wave is looking like a real disaster across the board. Bungie will sadly be gutted next.
I do think Xbox leadership did a lot of gaslighting to shield themselves from scrutiny. A lot of chatter about these acquisitions giving studios security and Game Pass being sustainable when it clearly wasn’t true.
But yeah, none of these corporations are benevolent unfortunately.
@Slideaway1983 That's great, too. Means we didn't really mess anything up!
@Bondi_Surfer Thanks!
@tselliot I don't think it's broadly realised so it's worth pointing out we do have an independent moderator across Hookshot who oversees all the sites.
I'm not out here removing comments, for example. (Unless it's something obviously egregious that simply has to be taken down immediately.)
@LiamOliver Thanks, I think there's a time and a place too. Completely appreciate not all gaming news is "fun", so there'll be times when it's certainly the right move to just stick to the facts.
@crimsontadpoles Depends on the approach. The way I see it, you can get "just the news" anywhere (Gemini will be able to do that for you soon, if it can't already) so there needs to be some form of "value add".
That doesn't ALWAYS need to be opinion, as I mentioned in another comment. It could be explaining why a rumour is/isn't believable; it could be adding context that doesn't already exist.
But thanks for sharing your views, I don't expect an echo chamber here and while I'm broadly satisfied most people seem on board, it's fine if it's not for you.

Re: 'Absolutely Terrible Idea': Nobody Likes Sony's New PS Plus Experiment
I can see why they would WANT to change this, it does make sense for "engagement" to have people coming back every week.
It's definitely a worse way of doing it, though.

Nice try at being a smart arse, though.

@GenX79 It's actually got a simplified control scheme. More like, say, Smash Bros.

This is ridiculous and a really stupid way to hurt sales of the game. Hopefully they fix this before launch.

Re: Sony Finally Speaks on PC Cancellations, Wants to Enhance Value of PS5
@Sunraku I don't think they're giving up on live service to be honest, so I'm sure they will try with more multiplayer games.
