Do you enjoy going on a spontaneous rampage in your favourite open world game from time to time? Maybe you like seeing how long you can survive against the law in Grand Theft Auto V? Perhaps you like racking up the biggest bounty you can in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Skyrim, or Red Dead Redemption 2? Well, if you are indeed a big fan of being a violent lunatic in video games, then you'll be happy to know that Cyberpunk 2077 will let you pick a fight with "most" people in Night City.
The confirmation comes from the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account, which has replied to a fan's query on the matter. The message reads: "You won't be able to attack children or non-playable characters connected with the plot but other than that you can be aggressive towards most people you meet."
Pretty standard stuff for an open world title, but it's still nice to have details like this squared away. That said, what about crime and punishment? Will the Night City Police Department attempt to take you in -- or gun you down -- if you end up on the wrong side of the law?
According to PC Gamer, who followed up on this story with CD Projekt Red via email, it depends on where you are in Night City. Their article reads: "There will also be areas where aggressive behaviour will come with additional consequences. If you try to start sh*t in gang or police-controlled territory, they'll come down on you."
Will you be taking Night City by storm next year? Keep your arm blades sheathed in the comments section below.

The fact that paramedics are armed to the teeth for me puts over just how brutal Night City is. I read a piece of lore that apparently that if your not insured by them, then the most they can do is resuscitate you but that's it. So there're like "you just had a heart attack but enjoy your day"
Still not third person, still not interested.
I would have thought a game like this would have attracted way more interest if it was third person like their previous game, The Witcher. FPS are OK, but they're not for everyone.
I always play the good guy (girl mostly) in my games. The only time I'll act a muppet and murder everything is if the trophy list demands it.
@tomassi I kinda agree with you. I have this theory that The witcher 3 was such a big hit in pc and consoles because it was a 3rd person, otherwise, it wouldn't be that good in consoles. So I'm kinda apprehensive regarding this. I'll buy it, for sure, and it will almost brake sale records, but I think it will change what people expect from cd project red's games in contrast with what they feel now..
I don't get all this criticism, regarding Cyberpunk not been in 3rd person. Games like Bioshock and Metro benefited in FPS because it was more immersive for been in a tight claustrophobic environment. Plus it helped with combat as well, it's one thing to have Geralt swing a sword about in a big open field, it's another when your in a tight corridor in a sprawling metropolis. If your someone who suffers from motion sickness then my sympathies but people need to cut CD Projekt Red some slack cos they ultimately know what's best for their game.
Surely thats just standard fair for most open world games..
Start trouble, people kickoff.. If it didnt react like that, the AI would be quite concerning to be honest..
Regards the first / third person issue, i can understand peoples frustration, especially after the Witcher did a reasonable job.
Although the amount of camera issues this could potentially cause in tight spaces, along with allowing those to spam the camera around corners before walking into enemies could potentially ruin combat to a large extent, although I can only summize here, based on what is out there regards the game.
Others have done a good job in previous games with tight spaces mind, so it must be a design choice. Has there been any explanation other than immersion stated?
Maybe once they ship it, they could add 3rd person for those that want or need it.. have a couple of friends who have motion issues with FPS games so its a shame they will miss out..
As detailed as this is, it doesn’t reach Divinity OS 2 levels of freedom. There’s no one you can’t kill on that. Also, if you can’t kill they better not be able to report a crime. Or let you knock them out taking that memory away at least.
@AdamNovice Still the option would be a nice addition. 😆
Wow, the overall art direction is just amazing 😍
I hate causing trouble by mistake because not clearly defined it will. Just make it clear. Having half the population jump me because I hit a citizen by mistake in a fight (started by another game mechanic) is BS.
@tomassi Combat was weak in the Witcher, due to the gun play in Cyberpunk I think it's better suited to first person.
@flaming_kaiser It would but I'd rather they focused their time elsewhere in the game rather then having to alter the scale of everything to suit 3rd person.
@AdamNovice I agree! I usually prefer 3rd person view, but for a game where the combat is gun-based, I can get behind the first person view.
What I cannot get behind is the opposite: games like Skyrim, where combat is melee-based but the view is first person, are simply too clunky and uncomfortable for me.
I hate having to “aim” a sword, and don’t get me started on having to swing a sword with the shoulder buttons. They’re comfy for shooting as they mimic the trigger and let you focus on the sticks, but if the combat is melee-based it doesn’t make any sense.
That’s why I use square and triangle to attack in Dark Souls 😄
@AdamNovice
Agreed, I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt that they know what best suits the game they're making. I think 1st person or 3rd person can be equally immersive, all down to the skill of the developer.
"You can attack most people but be wary of police and gangs"
This is excellent advice not just for Cyberpunk, but for life in general I find.
Maybe not right out of the gate, but im convinced this will get 3rd person as a free update. Maybe 5-6 months after the game is out.
