Ever since The Division 2's raid first dropped earlier this month, many console players in particular have been vocal with regards to the immense difficulty of the eight-player activity. At the time of writing, thousands of teams have completed the raid on PC -- some of them in under an hour -- while on consoles, barely a few hundred have found success.
As such, a lot of players have been calling for adjustments, but developer Massive Entertainment has come out and said that it won't be touching the difficulty. Naturally, this has sparked a rather widespread backlash across various forums and social media. Even the 'State of the Game' livestreams are being bombarded with criticism on Twitch and destroyed by dislikes on YouTube.
Despite all this, community dev Chris Gansler made the studio's stance pretty clear during the game's latest developer livestream. "We've heard rumours about us changing the raid difficulty [...] There's currently no plans to change that. We know the raid is harder on console but we are happy with where we're at," Gansler said.
"We're always open to changes. If the community is giving us the feedback that something is not how they like it, we're not afraid to do changes. At the moment though, for the raid specifically, we aren't planning any balance changes right now," Gansler added.
However, the developer is looking into a specific artificial intelligence bug which can drastically alter the behaviour of enemies. Said bug could be lending itself to certain difficulty spikes, so maybe fixing that will have a positive impact on the balance of the game.
Still, it's clear that the raid isn't what a lot of players wanted at this point. Hopefully Massive can do something to get things back on track, because this is easily one of the biggest backlashes that the game has had to endure thus far.

my comment still stands, git gud bruh 🤣
So if several hundreds have done it on Ps4 now, surely its a case of improve with practice and improve your gear/guns.
The matchmaking would probably help but i dont get this need to complete something day 1. Just because you should..
I have not done it yet but have realised i need to focus my character build...
First balance changes that stopped a lot of good builds on the pve side, and now this. They are doing the opposite of what made their game fun in the first place.
@Cutmastavictory have you perhaps tried LittleBigPlanet?
Better git gud scrubs, well I don't play it so 🤷 Extreme Behemoth is also near impossible for me in MHW. Watcha gon' do, you win some, you lose some.
@fuzzy833 oh... one of those internet tough guys lol. I guess you're insinuating that im complaining about the hard nature of the raid.... I'm not. But reading comprehension skills would help you understand that. I would help you better understand.... but not sure even I can make it that easy for you. Have a great day.
Does using mouse+keyboard on console bring the difficulty down to pc levels?
I just want them to stop locking the best gear behind the Dark Zone. I have no desire to play PVP.
With the lack of matchmaking, a lot of players tend not to bother with the raids. Most players have maxed out gear levels, leaving the game feeling pretty empty and pointless at the moment.
@Cutmastavictory sorry for suggesting a game.
@fuzzy833 no, you were patronizing due to your lack of understanding my comment. Enjoy your day.
@Cutmastavictory you too buddy. Hope it's full of joy, happiness, and easy boss fights.
Nothing new with Ubisoft. They still have shared balancing between console and PC in For Honor, despite a drastic difference in animation frames. Rainbow Six Siege was also supposed to have a universal censored version because they didn't want to make extra adjustments to only the Asian version. That was only canceled after immense backlash. Ubisoft hates doing extra work.
They actually made the npc adds more aggressive in the raid.
It's not the devs responsibility to match their game to your ability. It's your responsibility to match your ability to their game. In the last two weeks I've read stories on here complaining that one game was too easy and EXPECTING a hard mode to be added, to this where people want a game to be easier cause it's too hard. Wahwahwah (wipes tears)
Bravo to Ubisoft devs standing up and saying "no, we like our game as is." Suck it up and learn the game, or if your good grind away. Or play something else.
Ubisoft was a bit disappointed about the console sales. Comments like the from Massive won't help. Not tried the raid yet but what I understand is that it is easier to do it with M&K than with a controller.
About matchmaking: I completely changed my opinion. The Raid needs a good team that cooperates at a new level. Matchmake would not help with that..
About the raid it self: Yes, pc players will allways have an advantage with mouse and keyboard, and that's a fact that every console player has to accept. Now, being that said, I believe that something has to be done to the raid, but don't know exactly what.(lol) I Know a few hardcore console division players. Guys that really play the division (1 and 2) and nothing else (I really don't know how they do it..). In the first division, going on an incursion with them was nothing, but even these guys haven't finished the raid yet. They are all trying to make a build just to the raid but the general feeling is that the raid was something that everyone was waiting for, but it's a disappointment. So at this point I don't know if the raid it's too difficult, but still having such a big thing in the game that just a few people can finish, well, I think that that says something..
@Splat The all 'Division idea' is to eventually go for the darkzone and PVP. Or at least, it was. While trying to make people that say the samething like you happy, they already f* up the darkzone.
But it makes total sense to have the higher gear in the darkzone. It's more difficult and danger, so it makes sense that the reward is better.
Personal opinion: a lot of people tried the beta and liked the game without understanding what the game was supposed to be about, not even knowing well the first one. And now that they have it, are giving feedback to change it accordingly to what they want.
Which makes sense in a perspective of someone that bought something and was expacting another. But, the thing is, people bought a game that they would never like very much..
The fun is in the challenge - believe me, those few hundred who have completed it on the PS4 will look back on their memories of this game with fondness long after those who did it on PC have forgotten all about it.
This really is just more proof of the PC Master race vs. console casual argument. I found myself a pickup group from the official discord while the console players were all complaining about a lack of matchmaking, and beat the raid with a controller while the console players were complaining that mouse and keyboard was required to complete it. I beat it again last night with that same PUG, and since then we've decided to raid together whenever possible.
I wish we could go back to the days where if you didn't like a game or couldn't be bothered to learn how to play it, you simply didn't play it. Now everyone feels so entitled to go to the forums and complain and boycott and cause all of this drama over a damn video game. Then the devs Nerf and change things to make the causals happy, all while pissing off the players who enjoyed the game the way it was.
Tl;Dr the raid is by no means impossible on PC or console, so git gud.
