16 PS5 Predictions for State of Play September 2026 1
Image: Push Square

Out of pretty much nowhere, Sony has announced not one, but two State of Play presentations, going out one after the other later this week.

One is your typical State of Play, while the other is focused on games coming from Japan and Asia, and it should make for a very interesting double bill of gaming news.

The only game we know for sure will be there is Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which will conclude the first State of Play before the State of Play Japan kicks in.

Other than that, we're in the dark — which means it's time for some predictions. Let's have a think about what we might see!

These Might Actually Happen

The following predictions are ones we believe have a real chance of coming true. Some are practically guaranteed, even.

16 PS5 Predictions for State of Play September 2026 2

Marvel's Wolverine gets one last trailer before launch

Bit of a soft ball to start off, but I think this is probably nailed on. Marvel's Wolverine will be less than two weeks out when the State of Play broadcasts, so it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the debut of its "launch" trailer during the show. One last push.

Another glimpse at God of War Laufey

I think it's fairly possible we'll see a little more from God of War Laufey, considering it's the next major PS5 exclusive after Wolverine. It made a strong debut in the last State of Play, showing what appeared to be the opening 20 minutes, so perhaps we'll see another gameplay demo from a little further in this time.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet makes its grand return

We haven't really seen anything of Intergalactic since its announcement at The Game Awards back in 2024. Rumour has it Naughty Dog will break its silence at this State of Play, finally showing off a little more of its sci-fi action game. Obviously that's just online scuttlebutt, but it does feel due, doesn't it? Fingers crossed.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls reveals its next post-launch character

Marvel Tokon is out, it's great, and we know it's due to get some extra characters as part of its DLC plans. One of them has been announced so far, with three more still a mystery; I think one of them will be unveiled, potentially during either of the State of Play shows.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora gets a 2027 release date

It was announced to be coming in 2026, but I think at this point we have to admit that Kena: Scars of Kosmora is a 2027 title. I think we'll see a bit more of the game during the show, and it'll end with a concrete date, probably in the first half of the new year.

Ghost of Yotei's Echoes of Sekigahara DLC detailed

In about a month's time, Ghost of Yotei is set to receive story DLC, titled Echoes of Sekigahara. This, alongside a new Most Wanted mode, is coming to the game as part of a new Complete Edition, but you can upgrade your regular game too of course. Anyway, it's possible Sucker Punch might want to lift the lid on this expansion a little bit, seeing as it's so close.

Will Forza Horizon 6 drift into view?

Forza Horizon 6 is officially still coming to PS5 in 2026, but that seems doubtful with only a few months of 2026 left. A bit like Kena, I think the open world racer will finally get its release date, but it'll be pushed back to 2027. Given the Japan setting, this news could come during either of the shows.

Phantom Blade Zero's phantom demo finally emerges

Remember how a playable demo for Phantom Blade Zero suddenly appeared on PS Store, but was quickly delisted? I think we all expected that demo to be announced during the State of Play dedicated to the game, but that didn't happen. This next State of Play seems like the opportune time to officially announce the demo, which will probably go live after the show.

The obligatory PS Plus update

Sony always likes to squeeze in some PS Plus news during State of Play, so expect a short segment on the subscription service. We'll probably learn about some of the games heading to PS Plus Extra and Premium in the near future.

Something new from PS Studios?

Another State of Play trend is that Sony now highlights a major PS Studios game at the end of the show. This has been the case since May 2024, when Astro Bot was the final announcement.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is said to conclude this one, but that doesn't mean we won't see a first-party title get the spotlight. This could be the re-reveal of Intergalactic, or it could be an entirely new game. If it's the latter, I'm hoping to see what Media Molecule has been up to.

These Probably Won't Happen

The below predictions are a bit more out there. They're basically things we'd like to see happen, but if we're being honest with ourselves, probably won't. Bit of fun.

Astro Bot 2! Astro Bot 2!

Team Asobi casually put out one of PS5's best games back in 2024 with Astro Bot. It's only been two years since then, but is now the time to see the first glimpse of its inevitable sequel? Probably not, but man, wouldn't it be exciting?

Burnout's back, baby

As long as I'm the one writing this feature, I'm going to use it as an opportunity to manifest a Burnout revival — be that a remaster of the classics or something brand new. I don't ask for much. It would just make me so damn happy. If Crazy Taxi's coming back, surely Burnout can too. Well, you know. Probably not, actually. But I've written this and it's staying in.

Devil May Cry 6, of course

Capcom's on a roll, we all know that, and what better game to keep things moving apace than the next instalment of Devil May Cry? DMC5 was a banger, and with the publisher's current run of form, a follow-up could be even more impressive. Show it to us, Capcom, you know you want to.

Konami has more treats for us

At a State of Play back in February, Konami got a whole section all to itself, showing off a number of exciting games coming to PS5. Let's have another: Show us more Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, all that lot. I'm throwing in a Konami Krazy Racers remake because nobody told me I couldn't.

inFAMOUS remaster collection?

Sucker Punch is doing great with its Ghost series, but real ones will look back with misty eyes on the inFAMOUS games, open world superhero excursions that were simple but a lot of fun. A remastered trilogy on PS5? Surely that's an easy win.

Screw it, MotorStorm remaster collection

If we're predicting inFAMOUS, then MotorStorm deserves a shout as well. I think it's even less likely to happen, but a man can dream. Nothing hits quite like Pacific Rift.

That'll do. What are you expecting (and hoping) to see during Sony's upcoming State of Play? Tell us in the comments section below.
