For the first time ever, Sony has run two State of Play livestreams back-to-back: we got a standard SoP showcase with a load of general announcements, and then a State of Play Japan event covered Japanese and Asian developers. The two have brought about a ton of reveals.
In terms of the main State of Play livestream, the big reveals were updates to Gran Turismo 7 and Saros, another look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, and various small updates like a GTA 6 limited edition controller.
Then, in the State of Play Japan event, we got Where the Seeds Fall, The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes, and more information on PS5 games shown in the main broadcast.
For a full round up of all the announcements, check out our What Was Announced in Sony's State of Play Livestream for September 2026 page.
We're combining the two shows for the Poll below and asking you the all-round question: what did you think of the two State of Play livestreams for September 2026? Place your vote and expand on your thoughts in the comments below.

The first section could've been an email, tbh. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that was genuinely the worst PlayStation presentation I have ever seen. A complete waste of my time
I knew it would be bad, but my God.
It was good if a bit bland.
Keeper. Almost out today… in a couple of hours…?
They showed a trailer for Dragon Quest Monsters, so that was a high spot for me. The rest? Could've been better, could've been worse
First SoP portion I'd give a 6. Was ok, had enough to look forward to. SoP Japan fared a bit worse though imo, a bit average. I'd give that section a 5.
But Ai Fairouz is a straight 10. No, I won't stop going on about it 😁
I was really hoping to hear something on Cronos: Lazarus
The Japan State was better, but both were aggressively mediocre. Even the FF7 Revelation gameplay kind of sucked. It didn’t show anything interesting at all.
Not mind blowing by any means but they showed me a lot of footage for games I'm already hyped for so I'm happy.
FF VII looks amazing. I got a little emotional watching the Highwind.
So yeah. C+ from me 👍
(As I say that I'm aware I'm from an older demographic and I don't need to be shown something new that I want every time.)
Great aside from the NOT Resident Evil movie trailer
Rhapsody in Scarlet totally stole the show for me. Konami really has their redemption arc. If Wolverine is corporate game, how very accurately was pointed in the other comment section, than this and Showa American Story is polar opposite.
@Metonymy When was it? I thought it was tonight, I'm guessing when we were chitchatting away it was playing. I was sure it was tonight.
For me it was only just good/ borderline okay, a few dates I wanted to see, a few games I'm interested in.
My main gripe was the whole 'Ooooh look a game we'll show more of in the SoP Japan!', it felt like burning time that could've been filled with other games.
I thought this was a fun and very cool show. And the format works a ton better than the 90 minute or 120 minute "TikTok Style" formats that just throw trailer after trailer at you without any real meaning. This was great!
@Dalamar How nice would it have been if we got more Showa in the Japan portion? The showcase generally seemed to miss things like it.
Loved the Resident Evil trailer. Shoulda logged off after that…
There wasn't anything wrong with the games exactly, but it didn't feel like there were any exciting announcements. There's a few games there I'm definitely getting but for a livestream where excitement is the core measure of success, it fell a bit flat. Somewhere between 4 and 6 out of 10 from me.
Excellent state of present
The one nice surprise was Keeper, which y’all ended up spoiling for me. Happy to have a release date for Until Dawn 2 and Metro. Other than that the show was an easy 1/5 for me. Turned it off as soon as they introduced Final Fantasy and didn’t even bother with the “Japanese” one afterwards.
Maybe just do fewer of these broadcasts, and wait until you have enough content to warrant a really hype show.
Found it interesting that a grand total of zero execs show up. Usually Hermen Hulst pops in. Guess they damn well know exactly what the crowd's current sentiment is.
It was OK. I had no expectations and it very slightly exceeded that low bar. Kinda hilarious seeing all the people saying things like "Awful. Sony didn't announce a new first party game." or "no Intergalactic, this sucks" etc. in the live chat. Sometimes you set yourself up for a fall.
Didn't watch.
That makes it an instant fail for me.
Happy to see Maneater get a sequel though.
Maneater 2 and metro 2039 were the only ones that looked appealing to me. Not a good show from my perspective. I dont plan on playing any of the games shown on my ps5.
Underwhelming, bland, not even a little bit exciting... The worst State of Play I've ever watched.
Overall pretty meh.
State of Play: Partner Showcase
No Intergalactic continues to be worrying and disappointing, at the very least I expected a tease or something about GoW Laufey but nope, nothing.
Maneater 2, that was it, but will get that on non Sony machine. 2 out of 10
Almost underwhelming but CONQ saved it. Already GOTY for just the name
I would really like to see Sony actually have a show where they had meaningful content from their first party studios. I actually had a thought that Sony would really go to town with this event since they have had a sustained backlash for ages (and rightly so), but this was a whole lot of nothing new, sprinkled with a couple of cool bits and then finished of with some more nothing new. Maybe it’s time to stop watching these shows live and simply catch up later. Definitely save me some time.
It’s hilarious everyone thought that a show at 9 am ET US time was going to show off a bunch of brand new top tier AAA games, lol.
I would rate it using a numerical scaling system, or how you've done it is fine too.
What was the point of putting the Japanese one after the Western one? They were basically the same games but in different languages.
Tying myself in knots over Rhapsody in Scarlet because I have a huge aversion towards ring a ding ding big band roaring 20s mafia New Yoik jazz bollocks but the game itself looks custom built for me to love. Urggg why could it not be an original setting? Why did it have to be jazz?
GT7 ❤️❤️❤️ was great
@LemanRusk would you have preferred snakes?
I find it a bit odd how they’ve done this. Surely GT7, FF7 revelation, FF resonance should have been in the Japanese SOP?
Have they just used this “back to back” state of plays as a marketing tactic? I mean it was just one long SOP to me with Japanese games in the “western/normal” section. I found the whole thing a bit weird and once again underwhelming for Sony first party output.
At a time where Sony needs to entice gamers with solid, interesting titles as it's policies alienate it's gamer base, they failed miserably. They should have called in sick for this one.
It was ok. Rhapsody in Scarlet was the best game of the showcase. Wasn’t offensively bad I suppose.
It's was alright. I thought Rhapsody in Scarlet looked really cool. I'll definitely keep an eye on that one. RevNoir looked okay too. FF7 Revelation looks fantastic too. Overall, I'm happy.
SoP western was kinda okay, i give it a 6/10. But SoP Japan was pretty nice, i give it a 7.5/10.
This is just me but i'm more interested with Rhapsody in Scarlet over FF VII Revelation. 1920 New York with mafia, jazz, and magic feels pretty fresh idea for a Japanese game.
@GirlVersusGame I logged on this morning and saw it was happening so I caught what I could while at work. Usually these things play in the afternoon here so I was a bit surprised. I didn’t catch it all but seemed like an okay show.
I was still undecided if I was going to vote 6 or 7 expecting a scale of 1-10 when I got here so I went with good. Probably should have gone with ok b/c I’m not convinced it was actually “good” and not just “ok” but looking at the words ok seemed to represent a 5 and I wasn’t going 5. Good seems 6-7, very good 8-9, excellent 10.
So I said good, b/c it was like a 6-7, not an ok 5, but it was just ok.
Good things it had.
Variety. Variety is good. I don’t like when every game looks the same, like they picked a theme - dark, 1st person, fantasy - and stuck with it. This had variety, like it or not.
A few surprises in Scarlet and DQ maybe.
Ending with FF7.
Bad things.
Movies and Legos and so much dlc, oh my.
No Intergalactic or Laufy or Kena. The games people want to know about and some of us are looking forward to. If you’re announcing a SoP show your games, not controllers for a game you didn’t even show.
I didn’t stick around for the follow up so this only covers the first one.
I feel like this could have just been a State of Play Japan alone since even the regular State of Play was mostly filled with Japanese and Asian games.
That said the show itself was okay. If a handful of titles grab my attention I consider a game show to have succeeded.
Though I do have to ask what in the blazes that The Eminence in Shadow game was doing here? As much as I love the IP itself, it was immediately apparent that the game is going to be bad, overpriced jank IP slop. If you ask me it had no place in the State of Play. Was Kadokawa really that desperate for the exposure the State of Play brings or was Sony unable to find any other game to fill the slot?
I thought the first one was good. It was more or so updates on games we know about/a partner SOP which they do once a year so I'm always surprised when people are pissed about them. They have to do these every one in a while.
Yotei DLC looks great, Until Dawn 2 is going to he amazing. Also props to Housemarque with the DLC for Sara's because it looks good. GT7 isn't my cup of tea but they work their ass off with the game and I admire that.
Rev Noir and Rhapsody in Scarlett look like they will be a fun time. Rev has that Scarlett Nexus vibe(which needs a sequel) and Scarlett looks like a crazy fun time.
Also a lot of cool demos and games in the Japanese State of Play which I will play and probably enjoy this week. Those games all looked cool.
I'd say 7/10 for me easy. Wasn't expecting it be a big SOP by any chance. Happy with what I saw.
I really thought they might come out swinging this time to combat the recent run of bad press they've had but it was pretty meh. Until dawn 2 is looking good and Maneater 2 was a nice surprise. Personally have no interest in FF so the ending meant nothing to me. I thought having a separate japan show would mean less Japanese games in the main show but I guess not
The 1st one was meh, the 2nd one was way better but still not amazing. Konamis 2 new games were the most interesting for me
That being said I'm not that disappointed becuz this time I expected what I saw. A bunch of updates for games we already know exist. I'll always be of the opinion these shows should be for new game reveals 1st and foremost. If you don't have anything new to show by September then don't do a show. Or I guess you have to but at the cost of everyone being extremely negative so there's that. The only shows to look forward to are Geoffs then
I usually like to watch these, but this one was really really bad. That together with all the negative feeling towards PlayStation just made it a chore to go through.
@Gelloh agreed. To me it just reinforced the notion that they’re not the Sony they were in past generations.
Very ok State of Play, but there were mainly a lot of updates rather than new announcements. I can't call it a D, there was interesting stuff there, but definitely not the show they needed. But I bet even a good show would still have a lot of negativity around it just out of bias
A couple updates to first party games, confirmed release dates and a "shadow drop".
Perfectly fine show to let everyone know what else might be available to them in the current crowded season, and into the new year.
Japan showing wasn't for me but has it's audience, and plenty of games there.
People crying above need to manage their expectations significantly, it's getting a bit sad tbh.
What can I say, 4 out of 10. The Ghost, Saros and Gran Turismo updates were nice to throw in there I guess. More Crimson Desert content is nice. I don't care about seeing another FFVII Revelation trailer at this point even though im looking forward to the game. Slash Zero looked interesting to me as im a sucker for those types of games so i'll check out the demo that is suppose to be out today. Other than that, there wasn't much excitement from this, id say it was actually poor.
It doesnt matter, as this is my last playstation after the discs thing.
It was boring. Just a bunch of DLC announcements and accessories
It was awful might as well not had one
I found it annoying they didn't highlight which games are coming to Switch 2 and XBOX. 😉
@Metonymy I think I went to bed around four in the AM, those journals I mentioned to you, I stayed up all night reading them. I was sure State of Play was tonight, even moved things around to make the live-chat, hopefully next time. I'm reading the announcements now.
It was a solid SoP (best highlight was FF) but also gave the impression that Sony's going to announce PS6 in late February/March 2027 for a November 2027 release.
I figure they'll do a SoP in December once the GTA6 hype has settled to focus on promoting early 2027 games alongside having Laufey + Intergalactic at the Game Awards.
A perfect SoP for people who feel the PS3 era was peak and lament PlayStation isn’t Japanese enough.
Easily the weakest State of Play this year imo. Konami and Square Enix saved it from being really bad. I knew we were in trouble when it began with a movie clip.
I don't know why Sony bothered to hold one if they didn't have Kena 2, God of War Laufey, or Intergalactic ready to show off. Kena's and Laufey's absences were particularly bizarre.
Pretty much abysmal and nothing new we didn’t already know. They continue to bury their head in the sand.
It was okay. Personally, one of the worst one i’ve seen though. Could of made use of one new announcement. But hey, if its not the right time yet then its not the right time 🤷🏻♂️ There’s already plenty coming up that i’m looking forward to like Wolverine, Until Dawn 2 and God of War Laufey.
Uncanyon also looked pretty cool!
I didn’t watch it. But based on the Round Up and the comments here, I made a wise decision.
Also I don’t think there’s enough outrage for the sheer disrespect of opening with a movie trailer on a games’ presentation for a franchise that isn’t even Sony’s…
I don't see the point of lumping all these trailers together when 90% of the games had already been announced. A SoP should cover new stuff otherwise just release the individual trailers and don't bother with a presentation.
I think very underwhelming sums it up perfectly. Honestly, I think Sony should not have bothered as they clearly didn't have enough content for a showcase and thus they padded it out with underwhelming games (for the most part). I was literally yawning through the last half, and contemplated having a nap...
We really need to stop expecting Intergalactic to show up.
@IllusiveMan I believe they co-own the rights to the films though.
But yeah that was my reaction in the chat as well, that it wasnt a good sign they started with a movie trailer. Although, i thought it was a cool scene!
That was potentially the most boring SoP I've seen. What on earth are Sony's first parties doing.
The best announcement for me was probably a port of an Xbox game.
Now it's a super long wait to the next one likely in Feb. At least TGA is usually quite good.
Did not watch at work.
But wow what a low score from you all.
It was extremely ok! Final Fantasy is my series and I love it and it’s far more exciting to see the 7 trilogy wrap up than GTA6 for me. The Resonance demo is exciting too, but wow… what were they thinking with this one from a business perspective? The tone of the room hasn’t gotten any better and this one will be fodder to the fire, for sure.
No Kena/Laufey/Intergalactic is baffling to me, but whatever. Not quite sure why Sony had a State of Play if it really doesn’t have much to show. Most of these were definitely email tier announcements.
I expect this showcase will be eviscerated by the fans online and will be surrounded by “no physical, no buy” rhetoric. This September they could’ve sat quiet and let GTA6 sell consoles for them, but I guess it’s better to tell the fans where torches and pitchforks should be aimed.
@Vertere I like Japanese games, just not the anime style RPGs. I'm sure they're great for the people that like them, but they're all really samey for me.
I would rate it "completely pointless/10"
Going disc-less ? Fine. Whatever. But going game-less is a wild choice man- digital or physical you have to have games consumers want to play. Modern Sony is a mess.
My expectations were very much in check, it was good overall. Nothing mind-blowing, but good showings of cool games
Rhapsody in Scarlet was the only highlight for me. The showcase overall was okay imo.
@Ooccoo_Jr unless they are going show new stuff i see no point of hese state of play at all
Saros and GOY DLC was cool, the other is stuff we already knew about, and it was boring otherwise. POOR!
Pretty poor for me. When the highlight of a presentation is a Gran Turismo update you know its a clunker lol.
the worst i remember
Pretty much worse SoP in recent memory if not ever.
Only game that was interesting to me was Metro 2039.
Between okay and good
