Sony has officially announced the next State of Play showcase will take place this week, on 3rd September 2026.
The livestream will have "updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners", and it will conclude with an "extended look" at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
Immediately after the show, Sony will air another State of Play Japan event. "State of Play Japan will offer deep dives into upcoming games from game studios in Japan and Asia, including new gameplay, announcements, and more," the PlayStation Blog post reveals.
The first State of Play livestream will start at:
- North America: 6am PDT / 7am MDT / 8am CDT / 9am EDT
- UK/Ire: 2pm BST
- Europe: 3pm CEST / 4pm EEST
- Asia/Oceania: 10pm JST / 9pm AWST / 11pm AEST
As for what might be featured during the livestream, Sony leaves the door open for PlayStation Studios announcements. It means we could see the likes of Until Dawn 2 and Intergalactic. Square Enix is already confirmed to close the show with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, so that's your "one more thing" already sorted.
There'll also be "deep dives" into upcoming games from Japan and Asia. Last time Sony put on a State of Play Japan showcase, the biggest announcements were a Japan-specific PS5 console model, and DLC for Elden Ring Nightreign and Gran Turismo 7. Based on that, I would keep your expectations low for the second digital event.
Still, what would you like to see at the two shows? Let us know in the comments below.

Exciting!!! Let's go!!! And out of no where!!!
A reasonable time for once in the UK. I am working from home so will stick it on live.
I fear SE are starting to show too much on FF7, I mean it's going to goty 2027 but still.... and since I'm high on cope I'm going to say the show will finish on Intergalactic
@Pigfish2 Was just thinking, probably the first time we've ever had one of these at a reasonable UK hour.
@Oram77 I feel Intergalactic is highly possible.
Love the earlier article ruled this out until mid September earliest. PS keeping everyone on their toes!
Hahah it will be in the morning herer in Brazil. Oh, the life of a fulll time worker...
Peak office hours
I guess I'll either have it playing on my phone (and will barely pay attention) or watch after (or both).
@Voltan It's okay, your boss isn't looking.
@get2sammyb So if this article only links to here why not just update the article? What happens to those 65 comments? Mine wasn’t 1 so it doesn’t affect me any, just wondering why sometimes you update titles so we can keep reading the old comments and sometimes those comments are buried deep in the PS graveyard. Who makes that call on which way to go, you and the other guys writing here or the higher ups? 🤷🏻♂️ (I do trust Liam, he seems the adult in the room)
“ NEWS 'Likely and Soon': Next State of Play Is Expected in the Coming Weeks Sony”
Congrats on the timing of the “ghost article” just the same.👍
9AM in New York is really weird for Sony. We usually get these things around 5-8PM. The morning is usually the Nintendo Direct time. I’ll watch. Maybe they’ll announce $30 Wolverine dlc. 🤑
@rjejr State of Play Japan is trying to hit the Japanese audience too, hence the timing.
3PM local time for me here in South Africa. Too bad I am at work, so will check it out later when I get home.
Excited to see the absolute drubbing the live-chat is gonna experience if the Phantom Blade Zero SoP was any indicator XD
Probably gonna tune into this just for any potential third-party announcements myself since Sony has basically torched their first-party reputation in my eyes and I really don't see how they'll bring that back without reversing course on killing physicals (which is incredibly unlikely given how stubborn they tend to be 🙃). Still though, it'll be a nice watchalong with some mates while we complain about everything we're seeing all the same XD
A State of Play that isn't aired in the middle of the night for europeans? Might actually watch it
RE 9 and/or Cronos DLC maybe? With Cronos I'm just waiting for a complete addition at this point.
@LuigiDude96 I'll be at work so I'll just read the highlights on the train home...
@get2sammyb you really think it will be out in 2027? We haven't had any kind of updates on it since the reveal. I mean I would not complain at all if it does release next year. I think it will be a cross-gen title.
So another follow up show that will focus mostly on Japan related games? Okay, I will definitely watch this. Also, give us Ape Escape 3 on the classic catalog
Even though the timing is a bit more palatable for us Europeans, this might actually make it harder for me to watch it live as I'll still be at work. Nice to have the regular SOP immediately followed by the Japan one, should give us plenty of stuff.
The FF7 Revelation deep dive feels unnecessary though.
@get2sammyb Japanese audience? Might as well try to cater to the physical only audience while they’re at it. 😝 Unless they’re announcing a port of the Ocarina of Time remake for PS5. 🤣
Just realized with Wolverine basically out and Laufey dated for early next year it might finally be time for some serious coverage of Intergalactic. And since that doesn’t really look like a Japanese type game that could explain the time slot. Thanks as always for the reply and the insight. 😁
In for the Japanese games! I will tune out for FF7 because it's already a day one for me and I feel like they are showing too much! Announce a physical version for an easy win.
Well I'll be parked at my desk busy with the work day. Guess I'll just see what's been announced afterward.
I am skeptical about this SOP. I think it will be the worst one yet.
They're on a streak of good SOPs, so there's a good chance I'll eat my words.
Also, there's a good chance I'll see updates and announcements from the developers I criticise the most.
Haven has yet to disprove my enormous mistrust for them that I've had since their very inception. In my eyes, they're fraudulent vaporware devs.
ND has been ruined by Neil D in my opinion. They're close to being a defacto closed studio now since the launch of TLOU 2.
Bend is another defacto defunct Studio that has barely survived the failed DG2 pitch. I keep seeing new fans of Days Gone on Reddit asking for the sequel!
Media Molecule has just been sitting on Dreams for a while and had to be helped on by Sony management.
Bungie is another floundering studio.
So yeah, give us critics a reason to change perspectives!
I thought the next one was more likely to come after Wolverine was out to concentrate on the next big thing but apparently not.
Seeing as they are saying FF VII is the closer already leads me to think Intergalactic won't be there. You'd save something that big as your finale. Unless they are going for big opener? I'm not convinced.
@EfYI I thought the last State of Play was one of the worst ones they've ever done and the one before it was one of the best ones they've ever done so realistically this next one could go either way for me XD
🤞for some Resident Evil Veronica gameplay.
Intergalatic, please. It's been too long. We have to see gameplay of it, and perhaps confirmation of release for 2027.
@get2sammyb Considering the Japanese show after, the time is probably with them in mind.
@get2sammyb This will most likely be true at the time
@get2sammyb we won the war specifically so we don’t have to have State of Play at a time that’s convenient for you. Kidding. I’m Jamaican so by roots I’m probably more British than I am American.
SE you decide to start showing up to these PS shows now of all times 💀
Anyway I'm kinda doubtful either is gonna show, any if at all, completely new big unannounced games. Mainly cuz everyone mostly seems to already have a big game announced in development. And going off of previous SoPs, 90% will be another look at games already announced or games that have already had like 20 different trailers
2pm? What? Usually it's like at 9pm or 10pm...
Looks like that boycott really hit Sony hard, lol.
Just give me info on all releases prior to January 2028.
Let’s gooo! Bloodborne remaster! This is the year, I can feel it in my bones!
Also hoping for some GTA6 PS5Pro info.
Looking forward to both of these, hoping to see more of Rev.NOIR.
All I need now is a Nintendo Direct and this week will be even better.
I would not be surprised if we see the Kena sequel in this State of Play, somehow expecting it to be delayed until early 2027.
@UltimateOtaku91
I mean, Nintendo could snipe Sony in the balls by announcing OoT Nintendo Direct at the same date and time.
@CielloArc I wouldn't be surprised if these companies communicate with each other to avoid overlapping shows.
I hope the decision to end with Revelation is because Square Enix wants to announce that the game is coming on 2-3 discs.
State of play
Yeah not in the best state right now 🤣
So looking forward to watching a extended look of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Anyone know when we're likely to see pre orders go live for this game being it releases next Spring?
Call me pessimistic, but I don’t see there being any mind shattering announcements. There will be some interesting updates to games we already know about, and that will be about it. I just feel that if there were any more announcements to be made over summer, we would’ve heard them by now.
@Pigfish2 you say it's a reasonable time for the UK but 2pm is when most people are working. Not all of us have the luxury of working from home......
interesting usually a state of play is late afternoon in the states this time it is 9:00am eastern time sony main audience is in the states but this time they are placating japan..for that reason i am thinking this is a japan focused state of play rather then what appeals to the american consumer..
I will just add that the last few of these have been pretty good so I'm looking forward to it.
I will also not be looking at Twitch/YouTube chats lol
Curious to see what will be revealed.
Did anyone checked naughty dog pulse?
Driveclub remake here we come
Not sure the point of ff7 deep dive. I mean doesn't everyone generally know what to expect after 2 game and likely 100+ hours ? Any changes will be minor and why not leave some things up for surprise?
Hopefully we see mostly games for beyond q1 next year. The schedule is already absolutely slammed between now and March.
Weird to see SE decided to put their game at SoP again. I thought they had enough working with Sony.
For the excitement for these took a nosedive, as any game without a 2027 date for me won't be something I'm looking forward to anymore.
Lets hope Intergalactic comes out next year.
@DaveHero75 Rebirth PS5 preorders went live shortly after the September 2023 State of Play so they may do the same thing here.
Good to see people getting preemptively disappointed so they don’t meltdown the day of. 😅
Gotta space out the rage and self-loathing!
Nice to have it on at reasonable time here in the UK instead of debating whether it's worth staying up for
@dwayne91 I know right like didn't they show it off at gamescom like week ago? As someone who has no interest in FF means I can skip the end of this then
Best thing about these SOP's now is that we usually get ps+ reveals for various different tiers and they're usually of a much higher caliber. I think we're due astrobot on ps+
Maybe Mr Cerny might pop up for something, that would be fun.
You can tell just by the write up description by Sony for this sop that a rational person should have very low expectations for this one based on the Sony of the last 6 years.
What to expect:
A lot of trailers - Check
Not much gameplay - Check
Very exciting!
Cool state of play is going to be spectacular.more games Is welcomed. Word up son
Oh well i will be working at that time, will see the recap.
8am...I wont be watching this one.
Looking forward to the 90% of comments saying "no disk, no ps" or along those lines
Not expecting anything exciting, but will see
Hopefully we get some news for Kena and that we hear something about Astro Bot. I just want more of that little guy, honestly.
Still don't think it is the best time. I am curious whether they will show anything new or if it will be a state of Updates and DLC again.
@Pigfish2 They just want it at a reasonable time for Japan, they weren't thinking of us in the UK lol
Maybe they’ll show something Dragon Quest. I can dream!
Can't wait to see the comments on the live chat.
Would be nice to see if Media Molecule is alive.
...Resident Evil 9 for PSVR2...? Won't happen. But a guy can dream. I'll be streaming it for the live hate comments. LOL
@Grumblevolcano That's all I wanted to know, thank you.
I've been playing games from the PS2 and PS3 generation lately, and I miss the identity Sony had at the time. I'd love it if they could bring some of it back. Even if only those rumoured inFamous remakes (btw, headsup that today is the last day to earn the trophies for UGC levels in inFamous 2 and Festival of Blood).
The closest I'm expecting is the GoW remakes to make a showing.
It'll be interesting to see if they mention physical media at all. I think they're in a spot where they'll be damned if they do and if they don't.
All I want to see is Final Fantasy VII! Sony can get lost with these live service games (except Destiny, bring that one back).
@ThroughTheIris56 I wish I could say I had hope for Media Molecule but I have a sinking feeling they will be closed by the end of the year…
2pm UK time is horrible..... I guess I will have to mute all social media and watch it after work. I would far rather have it in the evening. Not sure who would want it at 2pm on a weekday....
Oh my are Sony and Square buddies again?! Finally! Can't wait!
They announced the date for Rebirth on September 14th, very curious if they have that and the collectors editions ready to go.
Wishing for a new Jak and Daxter or Sly Cooper
@Dman10 At this point I've stopped believing in Jak making any sort of come back. Sly at least had Thieves in Time, even if it wasn't the best in the series for many. I don't see either Sucker Punch or Naughty Dog returning to these series. And I'm honestly afraid of the results if they did, since the studios' identity and the types of games they make have changed so much. So the hope would be if a smaller studio or a remake studio (Bluepoint would have been good...) could take them on. But Sony doesn't seem to be interested in AA games. If anything maybe we'll get a live service mobile game like Ratchet got?
@JSnow2 As much as third parties are important and Sony having a good relationship with Square Enix even after Revelation has been confirmed to come to all platforms simultaneously... I really think that in the current climate Sony needs to present a stronger case for why one should invest in their ecosystem instead of on PC or Xbox. I'm not super confident, but exclusives would be the primary way of doing so, I'd wager.
@asdfghjklz You mentioned Destiny — a Bungie game — and Media Molecule. I sadly also have that sinking feeling about MM. But I think I'd say that even more about Bungie.
@FreasurePlanten lol there is no Xbox to be concerned about now or the past 10 years or in the future. PC is a fad that has not been the cheap alternative it has been for the past 20 yrs. PlayStation doesn't need to do anything because of GTA and wolverine and call of duty and god of war and intergalactic giving them constant game and hardware and micro transaction and ps plus sales and retention
@Stevey_Mac lol maybe because the UK is not the main concern or market in general and especially when it's a Japanese focused state of play
@CashMadness this is a PlayStation broadcast not Xbox. PlayStation since the days of e3 have way more live and extended gameplay showings and even their trailers in general have way more gameplay and are actually real games in development unlike Xbox over the years and recently
@matekomlosi that aged poorly quick
@PuppetMaster u mean the platform where they make most of their game sales and FFXIV sales lol
@dwayne91 bad take
@CielloArc Japanese companies don't do that to each other and the industry as a whole tries to avoid it and their direct is next week and also Nintendo only sales Nintendo games no matter how much every generation we go through this with journalist and analyst and publishes thinking this is the time 3rd party will sell. They won't
@Mirage-5x5 Record year for Sony and the industry as a whole is dollar sales and active users march 26 to march 27 forecasted but you're right a twitter outrage campaign by german crypto guys really did a number
@EfYI bend was ran by an abusive narcissist that the developers are glad is gone. Media molecule does not have the original staff because dreams flopped bad. Naughty Dog's intergalactic will be goty winner and push PS5 pros and ps6s but ok bro
@invictus4000
If it doesn't happen, it's not the end of the World since the PCVR mod exists, and will run and look better on more capable PC's anyways, with either PSVR2 or Steam Frame.
If Golden Edition for Requiem gets unveiled and there is no PSVR2 mode included, time to throw in the towel at any possibility of a PSVR2 mode.
@Sonofken
Don't believe the lies about the ones that made Bend a success. Look at where they are now without them: On social benefits for over 5 years without anything to show for it. A bunch of no-good moochers in comparison.
They've released a very basic remaster of Days Gone. That's a joke.
Intergalactic hasn't been made yet, so we'll eventually see what ND under the helm of ND is capable of.
If they announce DG2 and show Intergalactic off with good impressions at this SOP that's me countered.
At this point, however, I need to see evidence of the PS Studios being run better.
@Sonofken I believes some of SE games like Dragon Quest and Octopath sold a lot more on Nintendo than PS.
And after SE president blame PS5 low install base for FF XVI & Rebirth missed target sales which leads to their full multiplatform route, SE games was completely absent at SoP February and June but they appeared at two Nintendo directs. It gave the impression that SE are done with Sony.
@FreasurePlanten Oh absolutely, true only on PS5 (and PS6) exclusives should be the main priority moving forward. I'm just happy to see Sony doing some marketing for FF7 Revelation
I’m not expecting much honestly. If Sony had anything major they would have shown it during Summer Games Fest. This will likely be 60% FF7 and 40% third party, well more third party anyway.
Maybe a new trailer for Wolverine.
Something for Intergalactic possibly.
Hoping for something shown for the Kotor remake.
@Sonofken on the ff7 info? Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of the remake trilogy, I'll be there at launch. I just don't know who they're marketing to at this point. I don't see a lot of people jumping in at the third entry and the rest of us absolutely know what to expect.
@Sonofken yeah, seems like someone just had to mention it...
@Sonofken Makes all the sense in the world to focus on a region that makes up around 19% of their sales globally.... I guess the other 81% of playstation owners won't be watching most likely LOL. I wouldn't normally type a silly LOL but since you seemed want to have a sarky chuckle I added it in.
@PuppetMaster I think Revelation promotion will be comparable to Capcom's promotion of Requiem:
Maybe also add in the Xbox events though with Square Enix not participating in the disc to digital program, I kind of wonder if Phil Spencer being gone burned bridges between Xbox and Square Enix.
@Sonofken Thanks for the laugh!
Here's the truth:
Sony has become a bigger circus than MS, but both of them have issues.
Sony is not involved in a genocide. Sony has not been spying on Americans for the govt since 9/11 thru the prism program. Sony did not cause the death spiral of the industry. Sony is not in a death spiral. Sony is not changing policy every 3 months for the past 11 years. Sony has never completely lied and misled showing games that they knew were not coming out. Sony doesn't have the worse online community in the industry. Sony doesn't only make b c tier games

@CashMadness want me to keep going?
@Sonofken
Great things Sony has done lately:
The console has become overpriced
I have no problem admitting MS has issues, but Sony isn't much better.
