First teased as 'Project Life is RPG' all the way back in 2023, Eternal Anima is officially heading to PS5 next year.
This is a turn-based RPG that takes obvious cues from the Japanese classics. It's been spearheaded by a number of genre veterans, including director Katsuhisa Higuchi (Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger), story concept writer Keisuke Makino (Persona 5, Metaphor: ReFantazio), and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima (Final Fantasy series, including the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy).

So there's some talent on display, but what's Eternal Anima actually about?
Well, time travel is at the heart of this one, as main character Wade attempts to right the wrongs of the present by dipping into the memories of the past.
Jumping between time periods isn't just a tool for storytelling, however. Wade's psychic abilities let him glimpse the future in combat, for example, allowing you to predict enemy attacks and counter them effectively.
Again, battles are turn-based, and so there's apparently a lot of strategic depth on offer.
Eternal Anima's also got a rather nice art style, with graphics that call back to those old school adventures. I think there's a lot of potential here.
There is a bit of a kicker, though. Eternal Anima launches on the 4th March 2027, which places it bang in the middle of a very crowded release schedule.
