At this point I've got zero sympathy for any developer who puts all their eggs in the Iive service basket. We've seen countless examples of this model being disastrous for its developer (far more so than the successes), yet here we are again
@nomither6 Gamecube has the best launch lineup I've seen and on day 1 I had Luigi's Mansion, Burnout, Wave Race, Star Wars Rogue Leader and Super Monkey Ball. From then I got all of Nintendo's own games and as a big Resident Evil fan I was spoilt for choice with those games as well
I didn't get the PS2 around launch and in fact when I first saw it I was rather disappointed given the absurd hype around it. The first game I played was The Bouncer, which was a bit rubbish and looked worse than games I'd been playing on the Dreamcast.
I did get a PS2 around a year later and it certainly had some amazing titles that I enjoyed like GTA3, Vice City and Metal Gear Solid 2 but I played on the Gamecube much more than it.
There's no denying that consoles overall impact but it wasn't a huge part of my own gaming journey
They seem to be pretending that performance is fine on PC and that any issues are people are having are down to out of date drivers, as opposed to their appalling optimisation. I've even seen reports of some broken textures and models not loading on the console versions now as well.
Luckily for Capcom, the majority don't seem to care if their games look and run poorly
@naruball I was going to say the same thing, as much as I moan about performance in games (and this runs really badly for the visuals on show), I'll happily concede that the vast majority simply don't care
I started playing this a few weeks ago and its brilliant and certainly would have been my GOTY had I played it last year. It really captures the look and feel of the 1st and 3rd Indy movies and Troy Baker is indistinguishable from Harrison Ford in the role
At this price I'd say it's worth it but it does have a fairly limited library but with some excellent exclusives and often the best version of multiplatform games and the haptics and screen are great. Downsides are the controllers battery life, the cable connecting to the PS5 and I'm not a fan of the lenses, though this likely won't be an issue if you've not used other types.
The biggest shame for PSVR2 is the lack of backwards compatibility as many great games never made the jump to PSVR2 and since I moved over to the Quest, it's only highlighted how limited PSVR2 is by comparison
It sounds like they're trying to get rid of inventory at this point.
Though whatever the reason, PSVR2 has some truly great games but also sadly misses out on many but if you're a fan of Gran Turismo and Resident Evil in particular, they play brilliantly on PSVR2
Despite what some online would suggest, the Steamdeck was never going to be a competitor to the Switch, nor was it ever intended to be. It's just an option to play PC games portably, alongside the other PC handhelds we have now and gaming laptops.
I've considered getting one several times but I rarely even use my Switch outside of it's dock, so don't know when I'd ever use this over my desktop
Warner Bros are a joke, so many great games came from Monolith such as Blood, FEAR and Condemned, as well as creating the excellent nemesis system for Shadows of Mordor
I enjoyed Ghost of Tsushima but it certainly leaned far too heavily on bandit camps and many of it's side quests were a bit pants but the core gameplay was really good, so if they can just build on that in more interesting ways, I'll be happy
@ShogunRok yeah on that benchmark run it dropped my 5800X3D below 60fps for a sustained run during a section in a village with a handful of NPC's, which is why I feel the engine is perhaps just better suited to the small environments of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.
That said, hopefully they continue to optimise it, as I still like to see developers using proprietary engines than just relying on Unreal which has its own issues
I just don't think the RE Engine is particularly well suited to open worlds. I've not played the full game but it was clear from the benchmark tool that the consoles were going to be in for a rough ride and I found it to be more demanding than the visuals justified. I also wouldn't be sad about the loss of RT as this isn't a strength of the engine either
I'm playing the Sonic Racing Crossworlds beta and its a lot of fun so far with no connection issues. It seems to be a chaotic mix of Sonic Racing Transformed, CTR and Sonic Riders, with plenty of customisation both cosmetic and game affecting.
It's clearly designed for a niche market (which I'm part of), the PS4 Pro was a significantly cheaper investment and aligned nicely with people upgrading to 4K tv's. The issue for PS5 Pro is that realistically you have to upgrade that TV again to really take advantage of it and the differences so far aren't necessarily that big but it's still early days.
Though in general I'd say we've long since hit the point of diminishing returns, with only RT making a big impact over the last few years
I've just started a new playthrough of Cyberpunk (on PC) as I only played through the dlc with the 2.0 updates. Starting fresh with all the improvements in place are making for a rather different gameplay experience than I had first time round and I'll be looking forward to playing the sequel years from now 😆
The word canon is the single biggest self imposed limitation that media has and often has no benefit for the product.
As far as Assassin's Creed goes, it's been a long time since I cared what the "real world" story is and is now more of an irritation that takes me off my pirate ship, or out of Egypt/Greece etc
That said, I don't care if there is a canon option, as long as I get a freedom of choice option
Simply put, PC players have a lot more choice of what to play and those who really want to play Playstation's games have already bought the console.
For me personally, I did get Spider-Man and Horizon Zero Dawn on PC but none since as either performance is truly dreadful (TLOU) or I just don't find the games that interesting
The reality is that Playstation's own published games have always likely being the minority of the overall amount of games that people play, and were only ever an added benefit of playing on the platform. Whilst Microsoft having more games is merely a result of their acquisitions
@themightyant I probably explained myself poorly, but my point is that I do believe it's ridiculous that controller support specifically is locked behind a paywall, by all means let them sell the rest as dlc (even if many others have offered way more as free extras) but I do not believe anyone should be charging you to use the hardware that you have already paid for, whether that be on PS5 or PC
@themightyant I'd say this though it's notable that PC doesn't get a seperate version like HZD did, instead just a "dlc" pack for full Dualsense support (sorry but that's ridiculous) and its photo and other horde modes
At this moment I'd argue Xbox's recent and upcoming output is significantly better than Playstation's. At the moment I'm playing Indiana Jones, whilst looking forward to Doom and playing Sea of Thieves online with my son, yet Xbox have made it so that I don't need an Xbox to do any of that, so I do so through PC and PS5.
Which for me is fantastic, as all I care about is playing the games I want to and get to do so at much higher quality then if they were just locked to their consoles
This would be a free patch on any other game, it was obvious there was no real upgrade when on PC there isn't a seperate version or mention of improved fidelity.
Instead they are charging you £10 to use your PS5 controller and TV's own features and its a joke
I'm a big Sonic fan but realistically there isn't enough interesting characters to fill out 23 spots, I already don't care about the likes of Cream for example. So hopefully there's a couple of other Sega characters at least for the base game
It's nice to see a game like Astro Bot get such recognition and hopefully we get more fun games like this.
Overall I'd say Indiana Jones is the best game I've played from last year and that's done rather well here and is something Playstation players should look forward to
I've just been playing this and the combat is so much fun and yes I had to visit Revolve Bar for a bit of Karaoke. I really can't wait for the full game
They can keep it, it was the worst game I played last year by some distance. Combat feels very disconnected and scripted, exploration basically doesn't exist and the puzzles are insultingly boring.
It's neither a compelling walking simulator, nor a good action adventure game but seems to want to occupy an awkward space between the two
Good old Sony selling patches as £10 upgrades but not if you dare to pay for a subscription as in that case you have to cough up full price.
Will I be paying £10 for the privilege of being able to use my controller's functionality (that I've already paid for) and a bit more grass on screen? Absolutely not
Frankly Sony are becoming a bad joke for things like this
Easily my favourite game shown yesterday, Sonic Racing Transformed was so much fun and as good as any Mario Kart, so to see that concept expanded is very welcome
Finally, we get some new gen destructible environments which look less impressive than in the 18 year old Crysis.
That aside, this is actually looking pretty good and even as someone who has long since grown tired of Ubisoft open worlds, this is making me seriously considering playing it
It made absolutely no difference to me as every game I have installed is fully playable offline and if it had have affected me, I'd have just played my PC, Switch, Dreamcast or Quest
@B80 yeah I've recently sold my PSVR2, I did really enjoy it and it does have some great games but it's so limited in comparison. The clarity of the pancake lenses and lack of a cable make it more enjoyable to me and I love the mixed reality stuff.
If you haven't already and enjoy retro games, check out stuff like EmuVR and Arcade Time Capsule
@get2sammyb the other way I look at it, is even if this does become an issue in the distant future, what are the chances that a solution isn't found anyway?
My Dreamcast for example, stopped being sold nearly 25 years ago, it's method of connecting to the Internet is gone, it's servers long since shut down, even the TV's it connects to are gone, yet today I can play Phantasy Star Online on that very console and connected to my new OLED TV and it even gets new games.
That said, the bigger issue is single player games and content that require an online connection needs to go, why is Gran Turismo 7 unplayable offline?
As much as I think its dumb that the disc drive requires an Internet connection to install, let's be honest, this theoretical future where someone has a PS5 digital and a seperate disc drive that hasn't been connected yet and Sony's servers have completely vanished, won't ever exist.
Even if it did, then all the games patches and updates will be gone, leaving many of the games in a state that you wouldn't want to play them anyway
Picking up a Quest 3 was one of the best decisions I made, I was tired of missing out on games like Batman and the I Expect You To Die series on PSVR2. Plus with all the stuff I can do with it on PC and the mixed reality games, it's been a great experience
Any new Batman game now needs to be a reboot and forget about the Arkham universe. Kevin is sadly no longer with us and Mark Hamill is no longer the Joker and by the time this releases it'll be around 15 years since Arkham Knight, so there is no need to limit what the story can be

Re: Sony Expands Its PS5 Console Rental Service to the UK
Sorry but you've got to be out of your mind to do this, those 36 month prices are basically what the hardware is worth but then you give it back.
There are many better ways of getting these consoles, at least Xbox did that all access thing. I wouldn't advise anyone go anywhere near this
