Can't wait for The Last of Us Day 2026 where we see Intergalactic: A The Last of Us Story release.

In before all the inevitable comments about Naughty Dog’s low output this gen. While i get the frustration, we should look at the context.

I just want to point out that Ghost of Tsushima released more than 5 years ago, and the sequel releases only now, which is a normal development timeline for AAA games nowadays.

But we have to keep in mind that Naughty Dog is creating a whole new IP, which takes way more time than a sequel. Especially with the graphical fidelity and highly detailed worlds Naughty Dog is known for

For all those of you who haven't played this game, please ignore the hate this game gets, it literally one of the best games ever made, easily the best playing 3rd person shooters out there. So yeah, have a open mind and give it ago, you won't regret it, trust.

Unpopular opinion but the first one got me reaaally bored.... maybe being free I try this one idk

I went into this game a few years after it released, due to being away, and saw all the “outrage” online beforehand. Was pleasantly surprised to find a fantastic game, with a good story. What a shame the show didn’t match up to it

I haven't played the story mode yet but I did play a little bit of the roguelite mode on PC and the gameplay is fantastic, which is usual from Naughty Dog.

I really need to get around to playing through the story.

@DennisReynolds @GuttyYZ Thats also true, however those teams were probably not completely the same.

We just aren’t entitled to get multiple games from studios in a generation anymore. If a normal development timeline is 5-6 years today, then Naughty Dog will also need that amount of time, and maybe even more considering the level of detail they create in their worlds.

However i’ve seen people complaining as early as ‘22-‘23 about their output, which of course has already become a meme today. But i think this studio is treated unfairly in that regard.

Unfortunately games just take way longer to develop. I say just let them cook

Well I've never played it before and just the opening 15 minutes are a reminder of how rare such genuine care, artistry and craftsmanship are in modern videogames so it should be celebrated when we get it. Regardless of whatever tantrums people are still having about a creative teams narrative decisions in the story they created.

If you have never played The Last of Us games, or never watched The Matrix movie series, take my advice...

Do the first one and then quit. You will never know how much you owe me for that advice. Do not be tempted by the sequels.

Sony are just like Nick O'Teen and will try to tempt you into giving it a go, holding out an open packet of Extra and saying "go on, just try one".

Do not listen to them! I can see the harms those products will do to you.

I'd rather rip my own eyes out and be savaged by honey badgers than play this...

@Dogbreath The Last of Us 2 has won multiple GOTY awards, is critically acclaimed, and is regarded as one of the greatest third person shooters of all time.

I thought the phrase was “Gameplay is king”, and TLOU2 definitely delivers in that regard.

But seeing how some people reacted to this sequel, you would think “Story is king” instead.

It’s ok if you didn’t like where the story went, and it might not be for everyone, but to dismiss the whole game? The gameplay alone is worth experiencing.

How about we just let newcomers decide for themselves if they want to try the sequel? 😉

TLOU1 was about the limit of what I can handle horror wise. So if this is more scary, I don’t wanna start it.

@FatalBubbles You’re right, that actually does sound a bit inaccurate. Maybe “cinematic third person action adventure shooter” or something might be better description? I’m not exactly sure what label to give it.

But while it may not be the best when it comes to pure shooting mechanics per se, i do think it’s gameplay overall is definitely up there with some of the best in that genre. It’s combination of fluid melee, stealth and shooting mechanics combined with responsive AI makes for some incredible gameplay encounters.
Even if someone didnt like story, it’s hard to deny that the gameplay is very solid.

There’s a reason its one of the highest rated games of last gen.

And i can understand that not everyone like the story. But discouraging other people to play the game because they didnt like the story is a bit much, at least in my opinion

For me, The Last of Us, began and ended, with the first game. The ending of the first game was perfect. Not every story needs to be expanded by sequels.
Too me part 2, felt like the same slap to the face, as Alien 3, The Matrix sequels, T3 etc.

Woke is a good thing.
It helps people to understand different people, and that people are naturally different.
It helps those in minority groups feel included - which should be the case everywhere, but is something the human race has been, and still is very bad at.
It also helps remove fear barriers, on all sides - as most fear is derived from ignorance or non-understanding.

When the human race as a whole accepts people for who they are, not what 'category' they fit into, the world will be a better place.

@LogicStrikesAgain It most games, gameplay is priority but people aren't being told to play TLOU specifically for it's third person shooter/survival horror gameplay. It's good definitely, but the story is the selling point of the series, so if it doesn't deliver that's a problem.

It's hard to tell anyone if they should play it or not. For some people it's fully worth it, and one of the favourite games ever. For others it's the most disappointing game of all time which hurt the memory of the first. Ultimately it's an individual's decision to play it or not, but it's fair to warn them that the game has a mixed reception for many reasons.

@LogicStrikesAgain To me the first game had pretty terrible gameplay and terrific story. The second one had better gameplay, and a well written story that I just didn’t care for.

Sure, but I dont think the quality of the gameplay is really up for debate. Most agree that the gameplay is very good. It’s mostly the story that people are divided on.

The mixed reception was really solely due to narrative decisions.

But fair enough, you can warn people, however I dont’t think he’s only warning though. He’s explicitly saying newcomers should not play it. And that’s a bit too much i think. So its only fair to balance that out a bit by saying it is still a great game, even if the story can be dividing.

Not even included in my PS+ will I play this. The narrative just isn't for me. The first game can exist in it's own little bubble.

• If the game have massive technical problems or gamebreaking issues.
• If the game requires to play previous games because the story is directly connected.

Outside that, let people try the game and form their own opinion. It doesn't matter if the game has mixed reception from fans or not.

I personally dislike people who try to block / gate keep others to play a game just because they didn't like that game. It's so fking unnecessary and only created heated and long debate with the people who likes the game.

I think that from a technical point in terms of overall quality TLOU games knock it out of the ball park and really are excellent games for the fans but I personally find them boring and kind of depressing. Intergalactic looks as though its going to be another stormer for naughty dog but after seeing and reading exactly how the lead actress views the gamers that are not of a particular persuasion I decided I was not going to support a company who's quite happy for that person to say and post things that are quite frankly toxic and are things that myself and all of everybody else here would be censored for. Yeah wokeness can be a good thing but it can also be equally as vile as some of those who oppose it.

The trouble is, I dont necessarily think some of what you are talking about is what I would still call 'woke' - anything taken to an extreme can turn negative in the end - as an unrelated example, admiration is no longer admiration if it becomes stalking.

The context of my original comment/reply is difficult to see now as the original comment I was replying to has been deleted, but mine was a reply to a comment portraying the series as bad purely because it was 'woke'. If the series has issues, that is not one of them.

I have not read what the actress said in the case you mention - I always try to* work by the theory that I look at the game in question, not the viewpoint of any individual involved in its development.
I will use the Hogwarts Legacy example, as another example I could use is a bit too recent - the Sirona character and any messaging I saw in the game was handled well, and was purely positive, often done without unnecessary labelling. Given this, 'the author's personal views should not have been brought into conversations about the game, as they had no bearing on the game or its content - In fact, the opposite was true.

@Rich33 I can see your point and respect your opinion. Its difficult to discuss something such as this without actually being able to hear what the other person is saying because context and nuance can be lost or words misinterpreted which leads to animosity and frustration. Its good to be able to discuss this topic with people such as yourself who don't get upset when somebody has a different opinion but I often find that certain people just can't or won't discuss things and refuse to see another angle.

@LogicStrikesAgain its a catch 22 isnt it! Would gamers prefer a 10-15 hour game but get multiple games from a developer each generation or a 40-50 hour game and just the one title.
I actually think 10-15 hours per game is perfect, because let's be honest a fair amount is needless filler in those 40-50 hour titles.
But its what the consumers have asked for and reviewers will also judge a short game as a negative, so its where we're at

I yeah, they are giving more than a warning, but if it's reasonable to say "this is the best game ever you must play", I don't think it's unreasonable to say the opposite. That's the whole point of reviews, the player ultimately makes up their own mind based on what they've heard.

@PuppetMaster There are far many more reasons that what you have mentioned that make for a warning to not play a game. As far as I know Bubsy 3D doesn't technically have game breaking issues or a need to play the previous games. Assuming it doesn't have those issues, I know not to play it because it is simply a bad game for multiple reasons. I haven't played so maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it would be unreasonable to advise against playing.

I don't agree with pressuring people into not playing a game, but it cuts both ways. If it's fair to recommend playing a game, it's fair to recommend against playing. No one is forcing or stopping anyone to do anything, it's ultimately up to the player based on what they think.

I get what you’re saying. But we all know this is purely story related, there really are no other notable gripes with this game. Some of it is even politically related.

Besides great storytelling (yes!) there’s great intense gameplay, intelligent AI, great animations and an extreme level of graphical fidelity and technical polish that makes this game world class.

Yes, there’s subjectivity in regards to narrative decisions. But to say it completely sucks is just a weird take.

For example, people can warn newcomers to not watch The Godfather because they didnt like it, fair enough, but i will also be saying that they should not listen to them as it is still a prime example of great filmmaking.

I get what you’re saying though, and as ive said before, fair enough, he can warn newcomers. But it’s also fair that i can react to his warning, by countering his claims that this game shouldn’t be played

@LogicStrikesAgain Yeah I can't think of any other major gripes that aren't narrative, other than it just goes on for too long. I think also there were way too many long sections of just walking and talking, but they weren't interesting or engaging.

I wouldn't say the narrative is all bad, because I would be lying if I said I wasn't invested, but it is absolutely inferior to that of the first game.

And I think we're on the same page, as long as you're not outright lying it's fair to give any recommendation about a game, and likewise fair to disagree with that recommendation so people can be better informed.

Personally, i’m glad their next game is different, because i’m a bit burned out, not on the series per se, but these intense games in general. But i still recognize their excellence in making games. So i dont mind a sequel to TLOU coming eventually. But for now i’m excited to see what they’ll bring with Intergalatic

Sorry to say this but imho it's quite unreasonable to advise people not to played a game just because you think it's a bad game based on your first glance. For some people, Bubsy 3D could be their Super Mario or Sonic and you shouldn't ruin that chance for them. So, if you didn't played the game then it's best to keep your opinion to yourself rather than pushing it to other people since you could be wrong.

But i don't think it's fair from warning people not to played a game based on negative opinions from other people that you don't even know them. Yeah that already happened but eh this is the sad state of todays gaming community...

Such is the fun of online or text conversations - im sure I have written things that have been misinterpreted (particularly my humour), as have a lot of us who post regularly. I know Mr/Miss Khastik** (I think thats the right spelling they use) has been misinterpreted several times, despite their username.*

Unfortunately you also see the darker side - those people who spew hate, or regurgitate rubbish and dont listen / won't/can't discuss, yet often wouldn't say the same things if they were offline / weren't anonymous! (But for anyone reading, I am not talking about people who 'open up' in a positive way because of anonymity).

I also try my best not to give mods headaches as to whether something is too off topic / inappropriate etc (and try not to ask others to do the same, which can be difficult).

@Dr-zoidburg You’re ansolutely right! And i’m definitely in the 10-15 hour camp myself, maybe even up to 20-25 to complete everything. But i dont have time for these 40-50+ hour games anymore.

And reducing the length might definitely help with AAA development timelines, but as you said, the internet will roast you for it, so yeah they’re kinda stuck

@LogicStrikesAgain Not only are they creating a brand new IP, but they are arguably the best dev in the business still, right now. There's never any need to worry about their games running like crap or crashing either which is so prevalent with every release these days. So that said, they can take their time with their next iteration of brilliance

At least by now, people will be totally normal about this game.......

In any case, this is an outstanding game, arguably the best Playstation exclusive ever made with significantly better gameplay than its predecessor and just being one of the best 3rd person stealth/action ganes I've ever played. If you have the PS5 Pro, it truly shines on that machine

@PuppetMaster To clarify, with something like Bubsy 3D I have seen a number of reviews on it, and seen plenty of gameplay footage. All the reviews say the same thing, and I don't need to play the game to understand how bad the controls, camera and level design are. Fair that I should preface my statement by saying I haven' played the game, but I really don't think I'll be preventing someone from experiencing their Super Mario Galaxy. Obviously playing a game makes your opinion more valid, but you don't necessarily need to play a game to form an opinion on it. I bet lots of people never played something like Hatred or No Mercy, but have an opinion on it.

I get what you're saying and in an ideal world that would happen, but realistically no one is ever going give every single pro and con for every game they play. Like I'm not gonna list every single flaw for every game I love when recommending. I'm not realistically always gonna say "I love Bloodborne and wholeheartedly recommend it, but beware farming blood vials can be a pain". I get your logic and I should, but no one is doing that. I don't deny there are stupid reviews, but reading the reviews is important. If you don't get the game because you read "This is a w*ke game with golf club. 0/10" that's kind of on you. In the same vein, as people saying "This is an amazing game, the only reason people dislike it is because their sexist, bigoted and can't handle Joel dying". It's a complete misunderstanding of why people don't like the game, and hopefully would be disregarded.

Will it stay there or move like many other PS4 1st party IPs that appeared then were removed later?

The game has been everywhere at this point, had plenty of updates/experiments and more or merch.
