While best known for his arcade roots, Pac-Man's PlayStation history is arguably best defined by the Pac-Man World trilogy.
Following the 2022 remake of the original Pac-Man World, the question on many fans’ minds was whether Pac-Man World 2 would be getting the same treatment. Three years later, Now Production and Bandai Namco have reunited to remake what is often considered to be the best entry of the trilogy.
Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac is as textbook of a 3D platformer as you can get. You’ll be running, jumping, and eating pellets in largely hallway-based stages. Most, if not all, of the game’s 25 main levels have been revamped in some way compared to the original.
However, this comes at the cost of stages now being far more bloated. Combined with a lack of interesting level set-pieces, particularly in the early game, stages regularly drag and can feel never-ending.
The same can be said for the bosses, which have all received an overhaul, or in some cases, been replaced outright from the original. Though again, with most bosses requiring six or more hits to take them out, every fight suffers from being too long and tedious.
Most major changes in this remake aim to extend the game’s notoriously short five-hour runtime.
Each stage now includes three missions to complete, unlocking a new costume for Pac-Man to wear. There are also new collectible statues to earn through a gachapon system, which can be used to decorate your Pac-Village.
Additionally, remixed versions of the main game's stages are unlocked for some additional post-game content, as well as a new time trial mode. While nice to have, these additions are ultimately just excuses to revisit stages you've already completed over and over, rather than being meaningful new experiences.
It's clear by the added production value and new voice acting that Pac-Man World Re-Pac 2 is aiming to be a more fleshed out experience than its predecessor. But much like Pac-Man World Re-Pac, it remains a largely generic game that often feels incredibly dated.
Fans of 3D platformers will likely have a decent time with it, particularly if they enjoyed the original, but there are enough frustrations that hold this game back from being an easy recommendation.

Well, good thing to know, being incinerated by pills-consuming blob wasn't a part of my plans.
I liked the first Re-Pac and would like to get this one sometime down the line, especially since I never played the original Pac Man World games.
I bought it and regret it. It's just very samey. A relic of it's time
This game was a huge part of my childhood.
I’ve been playing it a bit this weekend on my PS5 and loving it. That said, I don’t completely disagree with the criticisms in this review. But I’m a sucker for very basic 3D platformers and collect-a-thons.
They’re one of the perfect types of the games to turn your brain off and vibe to. Plus I used to play the original back at my neighbor’s house like 20+ years ago so I have some nostalgia for it. To me it’s amazing, but it’s amazing for what it is: a simple and standard 3D platformer.
These games were only ever ok at best in the world they originally released in and even as a huge fan of the genre, they aren't something I've ever replayed and with the Galaxy games right around the corner, it'll be some time before I even consider this
Nah this game was peak way more than a 6 out of 10
I miss good collectathons. Any suggestions folks?
@Smackosynthesis Bang On Balls Chronicles (yeah i know the name lol) is a brilliant 3d platformer if you haven't played it 👍
The problem is have with reviews like this and many of this nature.
Is its being reviewed by a grown adult who has matured with games so never really quite gets the appeal and will mark it down for things in which a child, who would play these games need to under platforming.
Kids love basic and easy to play gameplay and the samey aspect is a comfort for children because it feels as though they know it and it grows their confidence.
So its so hard to judge when a grown adult who understands and enjoys depth and more adult games, reviews a child's game.
My 4 year old absolutely loves knack 1 and 2 and has completed it maybe 20 times and isnt bored of it.
He's also completed astrobot and pac man re pac.
And yet even though astrobot is the better game and is very varied, he revisits pac man and knack a hell of a lot more than astro bot.
So just bare that in mind when reviewing these types of games. Its a different era and only the true start of 3d platforming.
We all had to start somewhere.
@Bez87 that's just saying reviews are subjective, which they are. I was a teenager back when the PS1, Saturn and N64 releasesld an had played several, significantly better 3D platformers long before the original version of this released. Even today my 8 year old son, loves Astro Bot, DK Bananza and Kirby but played Pac-Man Repac for only about 5 minutes.
That doesn't diminish your own experiences, just like yours don't mean a review is wrong and to be fair, this review isn’t targeting very young children either
I've got a lot of nostalgia for the original World 2, and so I'm rather enjoying this remake so far. Still early on in it, so can't properly judge it yet.
Hopefully they remake World 3 at some point. I've never played that one, but would sure like to.
@Bez87 i think that’s invalid since adults are the ones that make the games. i don’t think age has to do with critiquing whether a games legitimately good or not. plenty of games ive played as a kid that sucked & wasn’t able to put my finger on as to why until i got older & realized why
a game off the top of my head i can think of is mario sunshine
Love to see Ms Pac Man Maze Madness, that was my favourite 👍
