4 million means the game has had practically no legs after that first 3 month period. Not a good look for Capcom games which do incredibly well in the discount bins.
@Batesy125s gonna be 550-650 imo. That too we've seen Playstation can cut 100-150 quid whenever they want. This device is for hardcore PC gamers in valves ecosystem
Have you seen the price of rice in Japan lately? Forget a 70k yen console. Those guys are struggling to pay for necessities. Like Sega increased the entry level salary to 330k yen a month that's 2100 USD. Where the heck will they afford a PS5 at that price. Rent ain't cheap in the major cities either.
@Rich33 I feel like with Pro reveal ad, they knew the sticker shock would be massive to the point nobody would bother with anything else. So they pulled the bandaid fast.
Ive learned one thing seeing the last 10 years of game coverage, the games media lacks people with business knowledge. People like Piscatella, Dring, Schreier and Moriarty are the few voices who actually understand the numbers and intention of investor Reports.
@Rich33 you are right that in hindsight it did seem overly dismissive of Astro Bot but when 2023s Tentpole was Spider-Man 2, it did need to be said to keep commercial expectations in check. We as gamers all knew Asobi would cook but nobody could've anticipated a 94-95 MC score or the level of love it got from younger audiences.
@Rich33 responding to you examples
1. Pro marketing. You're absolutely right.
2. Astro not being a major IP wasn't a marketing thing BUT something sony said in their investor reports. Games media misunderstanding is nothing new. Major IP is stuff like Yotei that sold double 3 million in one month. Astro has now earned that right. Now it has to cement it the way Yotei did for the Ghost franchise. They had to specify this because they were saying that they wouldn't have a Spidey 2 or GOWR level revenue bump in first party.
I said it a million times before but expect EVERY Chinese and Korean game to be ALL-IN on AI. It's how they get games out so fast.
With Japan anticipate at least 30-40% of games are using it in some shape or form. Western devs are getting the most push back so I'm not sure how it's going over there but Microsoft and EA are all in.
@Lanmanna we will find out when they reveal it. But they're saying it'll be around the cost of an entry level PC which is 500-800 bucks. I don't see mainstream breakthrough at that cost even with HL3.
@Bionic-Spencer crazy that they're now the last company with True physical media now that Switch 2 has gone for those crappy key cards and Xbox can't be bothered to put data in their disc's.
@Rich33 yeah I'm genuinely surprised by that but I'm guessing Valve does not have access to Nintendo or Playstations economies of Scale.
@ButterySmooth30FPS one can hope but there are certain games Like BF6 that require Windows to run because of their anti cheat. So it already seems to not have the seamless plug and play of traditional consoles.
@ButterySmooth30FPS it's the 8GB Vram too. It all seems surprisingly half-assed by Steam. Obviously pricing and availability in multiple regions will determine if it's actually going to make bank.
I really liked the atmosphere and concept which I think they could carry to more SoPs. But the content was poor for me. Usually I'm happy if two games are for me in a showcase but this time there was maybe one.
Regarding the PS5 price cut. It's more symbolic to Japanese audiences and developers that they're taking criticism to heart and are willing to fight. I just think they should've done this before the Switch 2 came out. It'll bump numbers back to 15-25k again per week but it is far more a statement of intent for next Gen.
@Max_the_German that's fair reasoning. My cousin bought A Wii just for Wii Sports he sold it a few years later for the 360 but Wii Sports influence on hardware sales cannot be ignored
Great numbers overall and more proof that consoles arent dying but only one console manufacturer is. I think they're not getting enough credit for their focus in new territories.
@Max_the_German I don't think so because I believe Wii Sports was sold seperately as well. Astros Playroom is only available via owning a PS5. I do think Wii Sports shouldn't be included though as it is inflated by the bundles.
@Dan12836666 U3 probably has the greatest set piece in the series with the Plane but that narrative was a mess. Don't blame ND too much since as per Schreier they were Rushed for that one.
@nessisonett I'm trying to give the benefit of doubt because Skydance is a new studio I think and AAA development is hard but I too am starting to think maybe she's not very good at managing large projects. Didn't know she worked on Forspoken so that's a surprise.
Amy Hennig is really unlucky. Given the fact that her last full game was Uncharted 3 (U4 was heavily restructured under Druckmann and Straley). Shes had no luck over the past decade. If we don't see any gameplay or info by March or April, I won't be surprised if they shut the studio.
@Jacko11 won't burden of proof be on the Union since they're the ones accusing R* of union busting if it goes to court? In the UK burden of proof is on the claimant Iirc. So they'll have to share the Discord if it is goes that far.
I'm sorry if this sounds mean but what does this have to do with Playstation Gamers that it warrants a blog on Push Square?
You could have brought up that it has Playstation store review score of 1.85 right now and talk about the buggy release.
I get that Playstation being so quiet leads to a lack of articles and stories for a dedicated blog but surely we can have better stories than trying to mix PC gaming and PS gaming.
@awp69 I know that. But again they specifically cited it as a reason that quarter was a massive success. Remember that game led to PS5s going out of stock on the official and black markets in China, HK and Taiwan. Tracking had 30% of those early 10 million units be on Playstation systems.
I'm not an idiot and never said it was first party. Just that it's success allowed Sony to avoid the massive losses that could've occurred that quarter. That 30% on each copy makes a difference and is how Playstation makes most of its money.
@Oram77 yup it's cruel to say that about something that was worked on by so many but Sony is so lucky they could shrug off the losses of development because Wukong did well and Astro got a universally positive reception.
@CielloArc astro bot sales were announced in the financial calls. Probably going to be the same for Yotei. Playstation has always been weird about sharing sales data. Like we don't know how GT7 has sold.
@Stepan It's good for Sonics and Sega standards. Remember these guys consider 2 million units a success which for Playstation and Nintendo First parties would be considered disappointing.
@Medic_alert I don't know how people overlook this all the time. This is why Playstation games always look that good and release that polished and can afford to take 5 years of development. They're meant to sell the entire ecosystem to the consumer. God of War Ragnarok is the kinda game people upgrade their consoles for even if they're on PS4.
You know Gamescast had a stupid video today about how Playstation is boring because there are no Layden or Yoshida being pals with the media and journos but Xbox management is what you get when you lean too far into wanting to be the Gamers pals.
Rather stay quiet than put your foot in your mouth every God damn week.

Re: Twisted Metal Renewed for Season 3 and Gets New Showrunner
@PegasusActual93 maybe. One thing I noticed about Twisted Metal S2 was how smart they were at keeping costs reasonable
Re: Dragon's Dogma 2 Sales Top 4 Million with Still No Sign of an Expansion
4 million means the game has had practically no legs after that first 3 month period. Not a good look for Capcom games which do incredibly well in the discount bins.
I don't see DLC or a sequel happening.
Re: Twisted Metal Renewed for Season 3 and Gets New Showrunner
@PegasusActual93 I'd assume poker face is more of a critical darling but Twisted Metal probably does better.
Re: Superhero Adventure Dispatch Projected to Hit Three-Year Sales Target in Three Months
@themightyant that's the thing episodic works on TV because it's weekly. How games never tried it or planned for it until Dispatch is surprising.
Re: Mobile MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers Seems to Have Captured Lots of Attention Already
@Bez87 Nixxes made that probably to understand how to work with Decima.
Re: Mobile MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers Seems to Have Captured Lots of Attention Already
Almost like people actually like the Horizon games outside of Twitter and reddit and really want the next one from GG
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's Single Player Campaign Is Being Torn Apart
Bro, wth is this? Treyarch and the billion ABK studios are literally out here begging for time away from COD Mines!

Out of the frying pan into the fire for Tango huh. If the rumors of EAs AI implementation is anything to go by, it just makes development harder.

@Oram77 apparently has battle passes.

Love it when they have these weird trailers. Also the tagline feels like it's specifically aimed at 'everything is an Xbox'
Re: Talking Point: If Xbox Drops the Cost, Would You Be Happy Still Paying for PS6 Multiplayer?
It doesn't really concern me as I dip in and out of the service. Based on the month.
Also interesting to see that people really want Steam to be a monopoly in gaming and the console business to die.
