Capcom has already announced Resident Evil Requiem has sold over five million units since launch last week, and now we know just shy of 200,000 of those sales came from physical copies bought in Japan.
The latest Famitsu sales data, which tracks boxed copies purchased between 23rd February 2026 and 1st March 2026, has the PS5 version selling 155,373 units and the Nintendo Switch 2 version selling 38,793 units. This is the best-selling opening week a Resident Evil game has had in Japan since the launch of the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019.
The title has done well for itself, but it's still completely dwarfed by the opening weeks for Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. Looking through the archives, sales data estimates the former sold 391,000 copies in Japan during its opening week, while the latter managed to sell 676,000 units.
Here's how the opening week of Resident Evil Requiem in Japan compares to other recent entries, in terms of physical sales:
- Resident Evil 6 — 676,000 copies sold
- Resident Evil 5 — 391,000 copies sold
- Resident Evil 2 — 252,848 copies sold
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard — 231,188 copies sold
