Re: Opinion: If Sony's Doubling Down on Its Most Popular Franchises, Where's Uncharted?

cainhurst94

It is okay for games and franchises to end on their own terms. You don't need sequels for the heck of it, if the development team feels they've done everything they possibly could with these characters.

Nathan Drakes story ended perfectly. This here is the problem with the games industry. Halo became a joke, MGS lost the plot even though gameplay got more refined, Gears lost its charm. Sly was given to a new developer and now he's stuck in a cliffhanger.

Re: Shocking: PlayStation Studios Are Hiring for New Games

cainhurst94

PLAYSTATION MAKES GAMES? Snarky comment etc. etc.

In all seriousness though, Housemarque seem to be scaling up quite a bit. Didn't they get a Platinum Combat guy last year or something. By then SAROS was already far in development, so it seems like they already have a pretty clear plan for the next project.

Re: More God of War PS5 Details Leak, Out in 2027 with New Protagonist

cainhurst94

@Ainu20 I've said it for multiple times but this comment section is one of the weirdest I've seen:
1. they want new IP but also want old failed IP to come back
2. They want sequels and existing franchises to take more risks but also, hate it when franchises take risks.
3. Want Playstation to diversify from third person cinematic action adventure games but complain about everything that isn't a third person cinematic action adventure game.

Re: Hands On: Marathon Is Dense, Demanding, and Drop Dead Gorgeous

cainhurst94

It's not for me but in an era of samey looking blah shooters it is nice to see something that looks INTERESTING and CLEAN and isn't just a bunch of brown and grey. It is also interesting to see BUNGIE go so hardcore and have so much friction in the gameplay where so many games now seem to actively want to court casuals.

Re: Wolverine PS5 Release Date Reveal Sparks Bluepoint Cover-Up Claims

cainhurst94

I said this before but Yotei and God of War Ragnarok had their release dates revealed in a random Youtube Video and a Blog Post respectively.

This is Sony marking that date as theirs and telling others to find another one. Q3 2026 will be stuffed with releases as everyone avoids GTA 6. Not to mention if Wolverine is asgood as Spidey 1 it will be a massive 1-2 punch for PS5 hardware with GTA6 releasing shortly after.

Re: Marvel's Wolverine PS5 Release Date Announced

cainhurst94

@Juanalf God of War Ragnarok's release date was announced in a Blog post
Ghost of Yotei got a random release date video on youtube

It isn't as weird as you make it seem. They seem to be more interested in locking dates down before others reveal their own. Especially this year where GTA means no other games will come out after October.

Re: Jan 2026 USA Sales: 5-Year-Old PS5 Nudges Nintendo's New Switch 2 Aside

cainhurst94

The Switch 2's over-performing in Japan but underperforming in the Western market. Not sure Nintendo will be happy about that given the higher profit margins on the western devices and the strong USD will mean higher profits on FX.

Regarding PlayStation it's an impressive feat but sadly what would've been a really strong week has been a ***** sandwich. Yotei is a great game and I think Sucker Punch continues to be the blueprint with Insomniac for smart, focused development. I think Housemarque fits in this too if Saros matches Returnals quality.

Xbox did better than I expected with Hardware given the insane cost of the device but I don't know how to feel about the future of the platform.

Re: Sony Goes Silent on Social Media as Fans Turn Feral Following Bluepoint Closure

cainhurst94

It is something I find fascinating. The amount of ire I see online does not match the Insomniac leaks about the actual sales of Bluepoints remakes. Just like Japan Studios.

If I had to cut a team Bluepoint seemed like the obvious target. I can give the remakes to Virtuous at a fraction of the cost and it will get an 85-88 on Metacritic and call it a day.

As a person who bought TNDC, SoTC, GR Remastered and played DeS on PS+ it sucks but the business is moving towards outsourced work.

Media Molecule caters to an area that PlayStation wants to grow in so they're safe for now (childrens games), Bend is in a precarious spot but the location is cheaper in comparison but they need to work fast, Fairgames is a sunk cost fallacy at this point and the project I'm most surprised hasn't been shuttered yet.

Regarding Hulst, I wouldn't be surprised if he retired at the start of the PS6 era. Get the new leader boost. I think they're looking at who they can replace him with but looking at current heads of Sony Studios they're all too artistic. The Sucker Punch and Insomniac bosses leaving really reduces the viable candidates.

Re: Despite Big Multiformat Push, Square Enix's Acclaimed New Visual Novel Will Skip PS5

cainhurst94

I think Square are generally quite screwed overall. They don't seem to have anything for this year except that Elliot game. All their big games are in some form of dev hell.

I think the Remake trilogy is only catering to the same 4-6 million gamers and not getting younger players

Anyway wish them well but the writings on the wall when 3.5 million units sold in a week is underwhelming on a 35-40 million unit install base

I also think a lot of the friendship with Nintendo now is because Square wants to get Japan interested again and for Nintendo, to show that they're a good place for third parties. I also think it's interesting that the best SOP and show in a while came when Square had nothing to show.

Re: 'Not Likely': Spider-Man 2 Dev Crushes Xbox Port Dreams

cainhurst94

I won't console war but when even the licenced Bandai Sony games haven't gone to Xbox why the hell would Spider-Man go.

Xbox has had no choice but to go this route and one must never forget they bought all these studios for exclusives. It's just that they miscalculated and it put them in a worse position that forced the head of Microsoft and the CFO to 'assume direct control'
