Xbox Project Helix

Microsoft has today revealed its next Xbox console — which will offer some form of competition to the PS6 — under the codename of Project Helix.

The firm's new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, shared the news in a social media post, saying: "Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console."

Sharma then said the next Xbox system "will lead in performance" and play both Xbox and PC games. "Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week," she continued.

The official Xbox account also published a tweet: "The next generation of Xbox console: Project Helix."

So far, most of the suggestions and rumours are pointing towards Microsoft launching its next main console next year, in 2027, while speculation indicates Sony might wait until 2028 or even 2029 to release a PS6. The new Xbox is said to support multiple storefronts, which lines up with what Sharma says in her post on Project Helix.

As for Sony and the PS6, it's heavily rumoured to be launching both a console and a handheld device to go along with it. It's suggested that the recently added Power Saver mode is getting current PS5 titles ready for the portable machine to go alongside the main system.
