Well, it was bound to happen: here’s your very first look at Clair Obscur-like Sword and Fairy 4: Remake, which has been confirmed for consoles and PC – but not the PS5 specifically yet.

The Legend of Sword and Fairy 4 first launched on PC back in 2007, developed by Taiwanese company Softstar’s Shanghai subsidiary.

While it was only available on PC, subsequent entries in the series have released on PlayStation, including Sword and Fairy: Together Forever, which launched on both PS5 and PS4. We actually reviewed that version through here.

This remake of the fourth game is being completely rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, and the Expedition 33 influences don’t take a genius to detect.

While the French favourite didn’t invent turn-based RPGs, this remake appears to take inspiration from the way the game presents its menus and action prompts. To be fair, we’re sure Persona 5 Royal was also a reference for the dev.

To be honest, we reckon it looks really good – especially if you’re into wuxia stuff, like the recent Where Winds Meet.

An English trailer is due in the coming days, but for now you can watch the reveal footage in Traditional Chinese.
