I mean, fromsoftware brought upon/made famous into the gaming world the so called "souls-like" thing. Let Clair be the same. Just as you have some crappy souls like, eventually we will get some crappy clair-like stuff

Your conparison is debatable. Demon‘s Souls and Dark Souls created with their new gameplay - slow third-person action RPG where even a single standard enemy can be a real threat - a distinct genre. E33 is a turn-based RPG with some button action in the style of Super Mario RPG and later Mario RPGs. A unique artstyle is not enough for me to found a „Clair-like“.

I thought Expedition 33 combat UI looks very similar to Persona 5. The way all the options are floating and surrounding the character looks exactly like Persona 5.

Then the side bar characters and enemy portrait that shows the next turn looks blatantly copied from FF X. Although, i believe Grandia 1 was the one who invented the 'who's next' side bar.

@Oram77 ah yes, the game with one of the best artistic directions ever looks like a PS2 or an Xbox 360 game, makes sense.

As long as this one has NOT used genAI in development I'm fine.

Mario RPG had a timing input during attack to do bonus damage (or to continue certain attacks) - I can't think of another turn-based game in which attacks have button prompts in addition to active parries and dodges. Each character has a different combat mechanic as if he or she is from a completely different game. There aren't a lot of other turn based games that allow for the depth of character build customization. The only ones that I can think of that come close are the Trails games (which itself looks to be inspired by FFVII), but the picto/lumina system is still more complex than the quartz setup.

Just like Souls wasn't the first to do difficult third person character action, Clair obviously wasn't the first to do a lot of the things that it did, but it was the way Sandfall implemented those things together that stands out. If there's such thing is a Clair-like, then you're talking about a turn-based RPG with tight parry/dodge timings, incredibly deep character customization, and maybe some flashy menus in combat.

Instead of being condescending and talking down to people when you don't understand the point they're trying to make, try asking questions and having a discussion. It doesn't make you look smart or funny, it only makes me think you got lost on the way to Reddit.

Looks a bit cheesy but outside of combat looks to have its own wuxia personality, I’ll keep an eye on this one. Certainly looks pretty.

As you rightly said @Oram77 Lost Odyssey had a similar atmosphere, and Legend of the Dragoon and the Shadow Hearts series (Covenant particularly) had timing based turn-based mechanics.

Clair Obscur brought a lot of sidelines mechanics together beautifully, and showed it’s still relevant and popular, but it wasn’t completely unique gameplay-wise.

Well Expedition 33 took inspiration from other games so let's not pretend Expedition 33 invented the genre and it's mechanics with every turn based game that comes after.
