Speculation on social media this weekend suggests Sony may have signed (timed?) console exclusivity agreements with Konami on a trio of titles, including Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill. We don’t need to speculate about the latter, because a remake of legendary PS2 survival horror Silent Hill 2 was announced by Bloober Team last year, and it’ll be exclusive to PS5 and PC for a year.
Rumours have been swirling about some kind of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater revival for several years now, and podcast host Nick Baker revived them this weekend, after claiming the classic could re-emerge at an upcoming PS Showcase with some form of PS5 exclusivity attached. As is customary for Internet insiders, Baker tempered the comments by stating his source is uncertain – and it’s worth noting nearly two years ago he was confident of an inFAMOUS comeback, before developer Sucker Punch shot those stories back down.
However, Windows Central editor Jez Corden was quick to jump on the speculation, saying he’d “heard similar” about Metal Gear Solid exclusivity. In a follow-up tweet, he added: “Just heard Sony landed a deal with Konami for Silent Hill, Metal Gear, and maybe even a new Castlevania.” All seems rather uncertain, doesn’t it?
Sony’s mantra this generation has been to lock down franchises with historical PlayStation association, such as Final Fantasy, so this doesn’t seem like a huge stretch – at the very least, we’d expect the Japanese giant to have secured the marketing rights. But that’s assuming these projects actually exist in the first place, and the speculation here doesn’t seem strong enough to say anything with absolute certainty.
Arguably the bigger story here, if accurate, is not necessarily the PS5 exclusivity, but that Konami may be interested in making games again. Summer announcement season is upon us, so let’s wait and see what the next few months bring, shall we?

I doubt Konami are interested in making those games again…unless Sony pay them and assist them, which they may well be doing, in which case exclusivity I likely (and fair).
Considering that Microsoft's mantra this generation is to buy up anything that releases on a PlayStation, I'd say shoring up your brand is the name of the game this generation.
This is great news. Sony must be fully funding these games and making them exclusive makes sense.

hmmm, 6-12 month timed exclusivity really doesn't mean much these days. with games being as expensive as they are, most "smart" gamers usually wait a year to pick them up on steep discount anyways. now if we are talking true playstation/pc exclusivity, that would be much more valuable to sony. that said, i don't know of many developers capable of doing a mgs3 remake justice, let alone a new 3d castlevania game. bluepoint is the only dev that comes to mind with the former... although a 2d castlevania game would best be suited to a noteworthy pixel art indie studio of which there are MANY deserving... including: the game kitchen, motion twin, yaht club games, askiisoft, steel mantis, team ladybug, inticreates, sabotage, team cherry and many more!
These rumors are years old at this point. I’ll believe it when those games are downloading to my PS5.

@thefourfoldroot1 There's been renewed hope with Konami recently opening a new studio. Especially with the new Silent Hill games, the upcoming Suikoden remaster and of course, their "promise" for an update on the Metal Gear licenses. Question is when, but every "insider" wants to be the first one correct on calling it.

@StylesT they remade a lot of MGS3 cutscenes for a Korean gambling den game. They have those ready to drop in. Thematically, "newer" players have had Peace Walker and Phantom Pain the last 10+ years so Big Boss in MGS3 is someone they will identify with and they can quickly package MGS3 and MGS5.

Never played castle to be fair so not really all that interesting to me, unless it's a remake for the first metal gear again have no interest. I would love a metal gear 6 but without the brains behind metal gear no thanks.
Silent hill now this has potential with how well the resident evil remake have been doing. If handle right these could be the shiny grace from this deal if even at all true. Been hearing these rumors now for at least 3/4 years now and nothing really came of it apart the silent hill 2 remake.

Would happily take a Castlevania game. Silent hill is eh to me, never thought it to be a great made game, and Metal Gear Solid is kind of a eh to me at this point as well. The story is confusing as heck and stealth games are on the decline in sales and games made. But this one is one of the better with Splinter Cell. So maybe this is their come back. Excited to see the June show case for both platforms and hope the reason Nintendo isn’t having one is cause Switch 2 is around the corner for announcement. June is going to be a spicy one.

Very few industries have fan’s that support the other brand with the attitude of we hope they go out of business so our favorite brand can become a monopoly while stating the other is a monopoly and how bad that is. The amount of lack of sense in it all is 12/10 dumb. Yes MGS makes the most sense to do but it seems they are doing the MGS tineline in order as 3 is the oldest, then 1 then 2.
@huyi I mean Yugioh Master Duel is one of the most generous live service games out there and their recent collections of old games have been stellar. Sure its not much but are in a better place then they were a few years back.

@jetslikecomets It's primarily British English. To go potty means to become irrational, crazy, eccentric, or addlebrained. So I gather "send the web potty" means the rumors are driving people on the Internet crazy, which isn't that really that hard to do.
There doesn't seem to be anything new or of substance with these new rumors, because all the talk about exclusivity has been rumoured as well.
I'd be hoping for a tight partnership or acquisition of Konami, not necessarily for whatever talent is left but merely for their IP's.
Kohima said a long time ago that he wanted to retell the mgs series since parts of the story just don't work that well anymore. If they could do that and have Kojima in an advising role, that would make dreams come true.

@Nem my assumption, if this is true, is that it would be in the same format as the Silent Hill revival. They basically let external studios pitch their ideas, then greenlite the idea if they like it and are just working at an executive level. From my memory they dont even have internal developers anymore, so if this IP comes back, it will be as good as the devs attatched, not necessarily Konami
Many seem to forget that you're allowed to own more than one console and they need to stop dedicating their entire personality to a brand. If there are games you want to play, then get the console that they're on

Yes,it would be a coup to pull these off as exclusives but they'd only be as good as the devs that they'd need to do them justice. Not impossible but keeping in mind Sony's live service investments would these fit in with their current strategy? 🤔

I love Metal Gear Solid, but I’m so fed up of remakes.
@Peach64 I think remakes from the PS2/PS3 era have a place in current gaming. They bring amazing games to a younger audience who didn’t play them 15 years ago and push the nostalgia button for older gamers like myself. I would however agree that some of the “remakes” of games that are less than a decade old are pointless and I would still probably prefer new IPs or new sequels in franchises such as MGS.
Bloober Team making Silent Hill 2 just doesn't fill me with confidence. Most of their games look good but play very mediocre.

At this point the mythical PS Showcase that keeps getting brought up feels about as likely as Mother 3 being localized outside Japan for Switch or Nintendo deciding to bring back F-Zero.
I think Silent Hill 2 Remake is exclusive to PS5 permanently. I remember when Microsoft was talking during the whole CMA thing and I'm sure one of the things Microsoft said is there's games that will never come to Xbox, they said FF7 Remake, Silent Hill 2 Remake and some others.
I definitely want more castlevania, I just hope the one making it is a good studio

I guess you haven't been with PlayStation long to know they were very successful for Sony during the PS2 and PS3 era. For those of us old enough to remember that era we had great fun and enjoyed them very much. COD was just starting to grow in popularity during the PS3 era and wasn't the juggernaut it is today.

In-universe order is MGS 3, Peace Walker, MGS 5 (Ground Zeroes / Phantom Pain), Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 4. AFAIK Portable Ops (between 3 and Peace Walker) & Revengeance (after 4) are considered non-canon.
Hopefully some at Konami took God of War: Ragnarok director Eric Williams’ plea to make a Castlevania seriously. I mean come on! Pretty please.

It's amazing all of the people who think that Xbox are scum for having exclusive content are now cheering over Sony potentially doing the exact same thing they've been doing for years.

@ThorsHammer They still develop eFootball and Bomberman R in house, i believe. There was that Metal gear survive as well.
But, i do expect the same as you and was taking the Silent Hill 2 remake as a demonstration of what to expect. Definitely nothing earth shattering. If we are lucky, a decent game in the 7-8 scale just cause the financing and support will not be amazing. Maybe if Sony is closely involved it could be better.

Me in the corner. Coded Arms (roguelike shooter or linear like the first two games differed (or put them on PS+ at least please) or Assault returning), Thrilldrive and Love Plus please.
I'm not asking for Enthusia Professional Racing again which will never happen.
I don't know I just don't care for most of Konami's IPs. That or maybe a Bomberman platformer like Hero was. Anything interesting that isn't their usual.
If they maybe had a hack n slash that isn't like God of War modern, Ryse Son of Rome and Hellblade camera angle and content and is more Bayonetta or DMC then sure I'd pick up a Castlevania like that maybe I have considered the 3D ones that released I just never see copies for them in local game stores. I don't care for Jedi Fallen Order (fine)/Survivor (have issues with it).
