MLB The Show 21’s Collector’s Edition is significant this year not just for its contents, but because of what it stands for. Sony has partnered with the Jackie Robinson Foundation, and will be donating $1 to the charity for every copy sold in the US through 31st December. However, as brand strategist Ramone Russell explains on the PlayStation Blog, this relationship runs deeper.
“The donations will establish the JRF MLB The Show Scholars supported by PlayStation Pathways program,” he writes. “Scholars will receive four-year scholarships and extensive support services, including career guidance and internship placement. It’s important for us to write more than just a cheque. The partnership with JRF will also include mentorship with PlayStation and Sony San Diego employees as well as an internship to get real world, on-the-job experience. We couldn’t be more excited to launch this partnership with Jackie’s family and the Jackie Robinson Foundation.”
So, what of the Collector’s Edition itself, then? Well, there are a few permutations. For starters, the Jackie Robinson Edition will be available at retail, and will cost $84.99. It’ll be available in an exclusive Steelbook Case, and will come with a Blu-Ray copy of the PlayStation 4 game as well as a digital copy of the PlayStation 5 edition. You’ll also get exclusive early access (from 16th April) and a bunch of in-game items, including: a Diamond Variety Pack, two Gold Choice Packs, double daily login rewards for the release’s entire lifecycle, 10 The Show packs, 10,000 Stubs, and immediate access to the Jackie Robinson bat skin.
If you don’t want to buy physical, then you can get the Digital Deluxe Edition, which costs $99.99. This focuses more on in-game items, so while you still get both the PS5 and PS4 versions, you also get: two Diamond Variety Packs, five Gold Choice Packs, one Ballplayer Equipment Pack, double daily login rewards for the release’s entire lifecycle, 10 The Show packs, 10,000 Stubs, and immediate access to the Jackie Robinson bat skin.
Then, finally, there’s the Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition, available physically, which includes all of the contents of the Jackie Robinson Edition, but adds a limited edition New Era MLB The Show 9FIFTY Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition Cap as well. That will retail for $99.99. One thing to note with this version is that you also get a digital version of the aforementioned hat for use in Diamond Dynasty as well.
Lots to chew over, then. Will you be picking up any of the Collector’s Editions at all? Let us know in the comments section, and remember you can find out more information about all of the options on the PlayStation Blog.

That steelbook looks amazing.
You love to see stuff like this. RIP a legend, a great person, and an amazing athlete.
The fact this comes after not just Jackie's death but also Chadwick Boseman's passing just makes it hit even harder
I’m definitely getting that version if the Steelbook comes out over here. I’ll donate more than a dollar though, they deserve it.
@TheFrenchiestFry He was so great in that movie.
@RBMango 42 was how I first caught wind of him as an actor. He freaking killed it in that and in Get on Up as James Brown
Does anyone know the best way to watch 42 as I've not seen it? On Netflix or anything? Or should I just get the Blu-ray or something?
EDIT: Looks like it's on Amazon Prime in the UK!
I need that steel book to get a uk release
N.i.c.e. jackie Robinson is a legend.i like that.word up son
@TheFrenchiestFry His performance in Get On Up is one of the very best performances I've ever seen. Really underrated movie too.
Looks fantastic. Can’t wait!
@get2sammyb Yep, I watched it on Prime over here. Brilliant movie.

Beautiful! Will absolutely buy the steel book edition then just get the digital ps5 one. Great gesture from them
Only $1? Hmm
No, I can't think of something more to say!
Beautiful. Now Sony needs to work on making the gameplay as fun as the Super Mega Baseball series.
@Unffclcntrllerpd you can from playstation direct in europe and uk.
I cannot find the collector's edition though.
I was not planning to get it this year but the Jackie Robinson steelbook will likely change that
