It feels like we've been writing about Hellblade for a lot longer than two years, as the title's been re-tooled a couple of times since it was first announced. Still, developer Ninja Theory's been steadily making progress with the intriguing project, and it's announced on the PlayStation Blog today that it's finally hit alpha. This means that, for the first time since its inception, the title can be played from start to finish.
This obviously doesn't mean that the project's complete – the studio still has plenty of work left to do before we all experience Senua's Sacrifice on the PlayStation 4 later this year. But it's completed all of the title's mocap, recorded all of the dialogue, and has programmed all of the gameplay mechanics – it's just a case of implementing them and refining them at this point.
"We have a lot of work ahead and the team is putting all of our care into Hellblade to make it as special as it can be," wrote Dominic Matthews on the PlayStation Blog. "We're getting super excited about sharing Hellblade with you later this year and we look forward to bringing you further updates on the road to release."

Yay! after the crazyness of Q1 this, Yakuza Kiwami and Sonic Generations 2 are the only games I'm looking forward to for the rest of the year
If Ninja Theory happened to be reading this...
I would very much like the Collector's Edition to include a statue of Senua and a steelbook case. So looking forward to this with the highest anticipation!
2 years? Didn't they announce this one at the e3 before the PS4s launch? It's been totally revamped about 2 years ago, but they are working on it for quite some time now.
@GAMINGLORY I second that
@Boerewors Im just happy its going well now cant wait to play it. Anders i hope to see a new Heavenly Sword even a remaster would be great for the new people.
@Flaming_Kaiser
"Anders i hope to see a new Heavenly Sword...."
Anders, ja?
Hurray! I've been intrigued by this one for a while. I have a feeling it'll be Horizon's darker sister.
I'm all over this, looks really unique.
@Boerewors Viel mij ook al op ^^
I really hope this turns out great! It's an interesting game.
@Mega-Gazz Haha!
@Boerewors I looked into this. We wrote our first article about it at Gamescom 2014, so it's over two years but not three years. I guess they're rounding down.
@Flaming_Kaiser
It would be soooo awesome if the scale of the statue is like the Uncharted 4 Nathan Drake one. I am soooo hoping.
@Boerewors Or else. No idea why i wrote the first word in Dutch. Maar kan niet wachten tot dat gebeurd.
I, too, would very much like a collector's edition. I love the topic that it tackles and the way it does it. I have complete faith in them and I can't wait. One of the few games I'll ever buy on launch day.
Finaly news are coming out lol
I love this game and as i know they restart the project once (when they changed GE to U4 ) and it's normal to take a time
I intersted in story and i feel worried about combat cause as they showed in game play that's looks like boring
Any way can't wait to play it
@Flaming_Kaiser
yeah that's that i can't wait to play HS again , sony made an animation (that was worse) from HS i think the next project wil be that
I want a remaster too or even a CG trailer from HS2
