This is a gane I'd love a remake to. I remember playing a chipped copy of this back in the day. It was in Japanese, but the gameplay was fantastic. Considering all of the other games that have had remakes and re-releases, I'm surprised there's been no new Rival schools in so long

@Blackbluto I agree with you to an extent, it's not been a stellar generation. Although personally for me, even if 10 great games came out every year, Ghost of Yotei would still be one of my most anticipated games, along with Death stranding 2

@charbtronic you won't regret it. It's been one of my "must buys" all year, so I picked it up. I'm loving it so far, and if it continues like this it might end up being one of my favourite games ever

I downloaded it last night but was too tired to play by the time it downloaded. Will be playing a few hours tonight though. I completed it back in the day but that was nearly 20 years ago now (!!!???)

I'm so glad to see that this gane has lived up to expectations. It's been in my top 3 most anticipated games of the year, but I was expecting a 7 or an 8 out of 10. To see it in the low 90s on metacritic is fantastic, especially for a debut game from a smaller studio. Can't wait to pick this up now

@graymamba to be fair, with the portal I was on board straight away. I live in a house with 5 other people and the TV is regularly in use (when we'renot out doing ither things), so I only got a few hours per week to play. Since having the portal I'm able to get at least a couple of hours per day, so I'm playing a lot more than I have in years

This looks fantastic. I love Xcom (and Star wars) so will definitely give this one a go

I'll be honest, for the last 2 years at least, Microsoft has had the best showcase of the year in terms of how interesting amd varied the games look. So now that pretty much all theor games will come to PS5, it's even more reason for everybody to watch

I would love a new Deus Ex, but for some reason not enough people seemed to play it, so I'm not holding out much hope. Would love to be proved wrong though

I love rivals schools. One of my favourite original ps1 fighting games, it needs a full on remake/reboot

I'm very surprised (but happy) at this. I personally loved the game, although I fell off the original and came back for the upgraded edition on ps5. But I can certainly see why people didn't enjoy the game, it's definitely an acquired taste

Still looking forward to picking this one up on sale, the reviews are decent and the whole "controversy" was always a non-issue. All in all it seems like the best AC in a while

I have to agree. Most of my favourite things from Japanese developers is how unique they are and how ridiculous at times. The nest parts of Like a dragon are the silly side quests

I'm not overly excited this time, although I will be stopping my playthrough of POP the lost crown on Steam deck and playing on my ps5. But to vote it's a crap selection just shows how limited people are in what they like. There is a decent variety and most of the games reviewed well, ao not sure what more people expect

This looks intriguing, to say the least. Hopefully it's not another one of those games that comes out and disappoints. Also hearing Ella's Toufexis voice again makes me really want a new Deus ex

Barbarian is one of my favourite horrors of the last few years, so I'm hoping he can be the first to make a genuinely good film of the game, that both gamers and non-gamers can enjoy

I must admit I'm not surprised at this statistic. Although I love my Steam deck, and play it almost every day. I have a terrible PC so it allows me to play some more modern games

@ThomasHL yeah I agree, the story and characters are the one area where I would put 5 behind the other 2 (only slightly mind you) but everything else was pretty much honed to perfection. Can't wait for Persona 6, whenever we end up getting that

I hope this is true. Even though Persona 5 is a better game in almost every way, and I loved P3R, Persona 4 Golden is still my favourite Persona game, and in my top 10 favourite games of all time

@StrickenBiged I was thinking the same thing. Even though the only correct way is the way explained by the people in charge, who made the decisions. Same as the X being cross. We can still call it Ex. And no-one (not even Sony) will argue. But it's still wrong

@Oram77 not gonna disagree, but I have loved pokemon since I was a kid and now my kids are into it. Not gonna lie, I haven't watched much Digimon anime, and the only game I'm played properly is the original Digimon world on the PS1, which admittedly was one of my favourite games as a kid. I also gave Survive a quick go but never got onto it fully. That being said, I really want to get into Digimon more, and this game looks fantastic, so I might have to get the kids to watch some of the original series with ne

This is one of my most anticipated games of the year, it seems like it has a lot of potential. The story is genuinely unique and the voice cast is fantastic. Also the influences on this game, such as Persona are already fantastic. I just hope it doesn't end up being a disappointment in the end

I'm definitely gonna be getting this. Been looking for an in-depth RPG to sink my teeth into, and this looks to be the right place, right time. I realise it's not for everyone, but it seems like it will be right up my alley

It's great that Sony has realised that family games can do just as well as more "adukt" titles. My whole family loved Astro bot and are looking forward to further titles in the series

I wasn't too put out by this outage, as I was out most of the weekend. If I did have gaming plans, I have an Xbox and a steam deck so would have had a backup

I couldn't really get into the first one, but this one is on game pass, so I'll give it a go and hopefully this one clicks with me more

I still need to go back and finish cold steel 2, so it will be years until I'm caught up

@wildcat_kickz yeah exactly. At the end of the day, I'm 35 soon, and since I was about 10 I've never lost the excitement for new games, and it's been fun to share some of my old favourites with my kids

@wildcat_kickz yeah that's a good shout. I think ps4 was fantastic but, although I don't think this is a golden generation I still find that my love an excitement for new releases is as big as it's ever been

@Toot1st now that the rumour about Microsoft announcing a new game in a legendary Japanese franchise I can actually see it being a new resident evil or devil may cry. They didn't necessarily say it was an xbox owned developer

@Khayl I agree totally. Turn 35 in March and I've been gamimg since I was 5 or six, and really started playing more when I got a ps1 in 1998. Although I do go back to older games occasionally, every single year there is about 2 or 3 that I consider "must buys" plus an additional 10-15 that I plan on getting when I have the free time. Definitely think gaming is as good as its ever been

GTA 6 is my most anticipated game of the year. But I do have some worries. 1 games have improved a lot mechanically in the last 12 years, so much that when I went back to 5 recently, it just doesn't play well at all

And then 2: they've lost the main writers that have always worked on the franchise, so I do wonder whether it will be as much of a big deal as GTA has always been.

That being said Red dead 2 is one of the hest games ever, so Rockstar has yet to let us down

@UltimateOtaku91 I like your predictions the best. Would love a Final fantasy 9 remake. Being able to cloud stream all games I own to the portal will finally convince me to get one. And Persona 6?! God I hope so, would love a new Persona

I hope they're right on Civ 7 being a big seller. I've been a fan of strategy games since I was 11, and Civilization is arguably the best of the lot

Very well deserved. It never comes immediately to mind when asked about my favourite games of all time, but every now and again I go back to it and just think what an amazing package. If given some thought it's probably in my top 10 games of all time

I'm sure game pass doesn't increase actual sales, but I must admit I'm a fan of the concept. Like the article said I have been exposed to more types of games that I wouldn't normally have played (such as the fantastic Chants of Senaar). And it does mean that I play every xbox first party game and, although the quality isn't always there, sometimes games like Indiana Jones come along and surprise me with how good they end up being

I really have no excuse not to play this, with it being free to play.

I never got into Overwatch, but I think the Marvel characters will eventually win me over go giving this a go

@rjejr yeah I've started watching one piece with my son, after watching the live action, which I thought was decent.

But with the amount of time we get to watch it will be years before we're ever caught up, if ever. With the mange I should be able to read a lot more quickly and actually get to a point where I can just watch the episodes as and when they release. (That's assuming the anime actually sticks to the manga)

This could be a great film if done right. I wouldn't even say it particularly needs to set itself apart from Starship troopers, oukd do with a return to that kind if campy action

@Shepherd_Tallon agreed. I'd be happy of the price is decent. Coukd do with a good working app where we can legally read manga. Would make catching up on one piece a lot easier

I've heard nothing but praise for Animal well but have yet to try it. Maybe it's finally time

I'd personally flip the top 2 (loved Rebirth and it may be my new favourite ff game) but both games are fantastic.

Also would have had Metaphor in the top 5, but it's a more niche genre, so even getting 7th is a great achievement and shows how well the game turned out.

All in all it's a great year for games and 2025 has the potential to be even better

I haven't got a portal yet (and may not do) but as a father, I definitely have played more games since getting the Steam deck, so can see why the portal has become so popular

It's great to see Still wakes the deep on there. Such a great game, and loved the story, setting and characters. Also the voice acting was some of the most authentic sounding I've ever heard. The actors really made the characters feel believable
