A quirky RPG not quite like anything you’ve played before, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of those games where the less you know going in, the better. Many of its systems, themes, and features will feel fairly familiar. However, the way first-time studio Sandfall Interactive has moulded those pieces together is unusual.
This is a good thing, for after so many formulaic efforts over recent years, the title feels like a breath of fresh air. If you’re willing to let it take you on its ride, then Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 represents one of the most bizarrely excellent experiences on PS5.

Using the traditions of the turn-based RPG genre to craft equal parts combat and exploration, you’ll journey across The Continent to try and put a stop to The Paintress and her quest to count down to zero.
Every year, she inscribes a number onto her Monolith, and every person of that age is left with 12 months to live before they turn to dust. Each year, the city of Lumiere sends a battalion of warriors and mages of the age she paints to try and take her down. All have failed.
You join Expedition 33, which must now bear the weight of humanity’s eventual extinction on its own shoulders and succeed where others have not. The group meets immediate disaster after arriving on the shores of The Paintress, but as a small group of fighters band together in the aftermath, there’s still a glimmer of hope things might be different this time.
What follows is a roughly 35-hour adventure featuring some of the most engrossing storytelling on PS5. Gustave is generally seen as the leader of the pack that rises from the ashes, though as you recruit more party members, the story develops in depth and emotion to make every character a critical part. With twists and turns on top, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 marks an impressive debut for Sandfall Interactive.

There’s a real sense of quality coursing through the script and the cutscenes bringing it to life. The voice cast features stars like Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars), Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI), and Jennifer English (Baldur’s Gate 3), and their on-screen personas are enhanced through skilful and surprising cinematography techniques.
While the lip-sync doesn’t always quite line up correctly, every cutscene remains gripping, with an already intriguing plot heightened by distinctive camera angles and excellent voice acting. It’s proof you don’t need the biggest budget in the world to produce something special. With a chain of events that dares to take risks and refuses to pull any punches, the RPG builds on its compelling setup to deliver the most absorbing of narratives.
Linking all those story sequences together are plentiful bursts of turn-based battles and exploration that follow an interesting structure. The plot is told linearly and requires you reach specific locations to continue its tale. These places are spread across an overworld map called The Continent, which you’re given free access to traverse. You can choose to go straight for the main objective off in the distance or take some time out to explore optional areas that flesh out the world with new settings and challenges.

Fully exploring these regions is how your playtime could comfortably balloon to 60 hours or more, but they’re also where you’ll encounter some of the more peculiar and comical facets of the game.
From off-the-wall dialogue to minigames that emulate other video game concepts, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a truly bizarre experience at times. It can go from an emotional, intense cutscene to its version of Only Up! within a few minutes, or surprise you with a comedic scene that allows the voice cast to thrive in their roles.
The contrast feels uncanny at first and can present a bit of tonal whiplash. However, the more common it becomes, the more you start to enjoy it. You can never correctly guess what’s going to happen next, or what you might find in a new area. It gives the game a sense of mystique, which, when coupled with the serious story, makes for something that’ll make you cry and then laugh through the tears. Sandfall Interactive finds a nice balance, though, allowing each emotion its place and enough time to come to terms with it before moving on.
What remains a constant is the combat, which expands the classic turn-based structure with dodges and parries that turn enemy attacks into another chance to deal damage. You form a party of three for every battle, and every member brings with them their own mechanic and forms of attack.
Gustave, for example, is repeatedly working to build an Overcharge meter that delivers a lightning blast. He gains charges from using other abilities, and the more it’s powered up, the more damage it deals. Maelle, meanwhile, switches between three stances that adjust her stats based on what attacks you use, and Lune produces and consumes Stains to boost her elemental skills.
The party members who join Expedition 33 after the starting three also have their own means of engagement, providing a different way to think about combat and how you approach it.

Where the title goes above and beyond, however, is by morphing enemy turns into the opportunity to become your own. All of their attacks can be either dodged or parried, and special moves can be jumped over or prevented with a Gradient Attack. If you successfully parry every strike, you’ll retaliate with an attack of your own that often deals more damage than your standard abilities — the same goes for jumping and Gradient Attacks.
This mechanic gives the battle system its depth and style, turning an enemy’s sequence of attacks into a theatrical performance you must match your button presses to. It’s especially satisfying to counterattack after parrying a difficult sequence of blows, and once you’ve mastered everything they have to offer, you’ll start to welcome their attacks more than your own.
Away from the battlefield, you can customise your loadout through a series of Pictos and Luminas. These two interlocking features prove confusing at first, and the menu they’re found on does little to clear things up.

Essentially, the Pictos are perks you can equip to your three party members. After using them for four battles, their effect turns into a Lumina. These Luminas can then be equipped onto your other characters in exchange for a currency, effectively spreading the benefits of the Pictos to everyone in your party instead of just a single person.
You’ll wrap your head around the functions eventually, but in the early game, their implementation is puzzling. Thankfully, other sources of customisation like weapon upgrades and outfit changes are a lot more straightforward.
With such a stylish battle system of turn-taking and counterattacks accompanying fun exploration, various customisation elements, and the superb story, there’s never a moment where Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 falters. Its narrative-rich content and stellar battles shine most, but Sandfall Interactive has created a game so charming and engaging that every element oozes quality.

The same goes for how it looks and runs — at least on PS5 Pro. Our playthrough was mostly conducted in Performance Mode, where the title ran at a rock-solid 60 frames-per-second. The visuals match with beautiful scenery both in and out of cutscenes, while most locations bring their own vibe and colour palette with them. The underwater sequences of Flying Waters and the icy mountain housing Monoco’s Station look like they should be worlds apart, yet the overworld map of The Continent can put them under one roof.
A fair bit of texture pop-in will cause distraction as you venture from one landmark to the next, but the game ran flawlessly for us besides that. Then, if you’d rather bump up the resolution, Quality Mode will let you appreciate the world of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a little bit more. If anything, it deserves to be. With a fantastic soundtrack boasting more than 150 tracks on top, it's a true delight for all the senses.
Conclusion
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the most refreshing and original RPGs in years, even if it’s not immediately obvious from the outside looking in. The intriguing setup expands to provide an engrossing, excellent narrative with lovable and charismatic characters. The exemplary combat goes above and beyond its turn-based traditions with flashy fights and new ways to damage. This is the kind of experience that proves there’s still so much potential and creativity in the bigger-budget video game space — Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is simply sublime.

Hey everyone, I've now played Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for just shy of 70 hours! If you have any questions beyond what the review covers, feel free to copy me in.
Nice review 🙂 Looking forward to it myself, in a week or two!
94 on metacritic currently (based on 12 reviews)
I really hoped that this game would turn out great but it seems to be even better than imagined
Cool… not got gonna lie, I was a little concerned that it might not be able to live up to the hype. Glad to be proved wrong though.
Nice review . Glad I Preordered . got a Pro for this as the GPU market is just crazy stupid .
Woohoo! Sounds incredible.
@LiamCroft What is the pacing like? Does it hold up well throughout or does it suffer with some big sections that feel grindy or a bit boring?
@LiamCroft
Hello, sounds like a must buy, so happy ^^
I have a mild case of FOMO though, so quick questions:
Can we collect stuff after finishing the story?
Are there missable trophies?
Also, I guess the lack of a mini map turned out ok?
I've only recently just bought The Hundred Line Last Defence Academy and the Oblivion Remaster so I'm afraid this is going to have to wait. But I'm glad it's turned out to be great, by the time I get it that lip sync issue should be sorted as well.
Why the deuce have MS released everything all in such a short time span? This, Forza, Indy, Oblivion and Doom in a few weeks. It'd be nice to think this shines in regards to sales but it might end up getting swamped by the bigger hitters.
@Brundleflies21 Microsoft didn't make or publish this game, they just paid for it to be on gamepass.
Alright, keeping that physical preorder. Love to hear that it’s so weird—can’t wait!
Fantastic review; lots of details to inform about gameplay without any spoilers whatsoever. Great job, Liam!
Never checked for this game but I always liked the name : Clair Obscur. Good thing it's a great game to match a great name.
Now I'm wondering for the folks with a tight a budget who bought Oblivion on a whim yesterday. 😁
Still playing Indiana, Oblivion came out yesterday and still had to preorder this. About 100 quid lighter today.
Wow was not expecting such high scores across the board. AND my copy just arrived in the post! Better hurry up and finish Indy.
@UltimateOtaku91 Bethesda belongs to Microsoft
@JohntheRaptor this is not made by Bethesda, it's made by Sandfall Interactive
@UltimateOtaku91 I stand corrected. I had mistakenly assumed MS were publishing it.
Game of the year.
N.i.c.e. I knew Clair obscur expedition 33 was going to be a excellent game.a 9 is a really good score.word up son
Yup, definitely buying it over the Oblivion remake :]
Thanks for this, I'm glad you obviously enjoyed it.
I don't tend to pre order games, but I've been following this one for a while and I knew from earlier previews they has nailed what I wanted from it, so I've pre-ordered this one on PS5 despite having a game pass sub. Really looking forward to playing this...
This game appeared to have all the hallmarks of a game that people think will be great but ultimately turns out to be mediocre, so I’m kinda shocked it’s actually good. I can’t remember the last time I was that surprised by a game’s reception.
I’m probably going to play this before Oblivion.
Fantastic! I was so hoping this reviewed well. I’ve officially preordered! Can’t wait to dive in.
Pre-order locked and loaded. I haven’t played the previous 32 Expedition games but I’m excited to jump in with this one.
Game is looking like a contender for GOTY 2025
Super excited to pick this up. Really hoping the Oblivion release doesn't hamper its sales.
@Midgar777 I think the story and game overall are both paced excellently. You're never far away from the next big story cutscene, and there's enough side content to give you something else to focus on.
@MichaelNau
1. Yes, you can continue playing after the story and collect things.
2. There are no missable Trophies.
3. I sometimes got a bit turned around when coming out of a battle, but other than that, I didn't really wish there was a mini-map or anything.
What a triumph for Sandfall Studios!
It is a boon for the fans of gaming that weird experiences like this one can, like you write, be a sublime experience.
I wonder what holds it back from garnering a 10/10, @LiamCroft - is it really the technical execution of lip-syncing?
My biggest problem with a title like this is its inclusion on Game Pass - that means I should just wait for it to land on PS Plus, because they showcase a willingness to quickly bring it to subscription services and those are just fundamentally cheaper than buying digital games.
So, looking forward to seeing this get better, if they so choose, through DLC and then I'll be ready to experience it on PS Plus.
I got my copy delivered today can’t wait to start it tomorrow
Have had this preordered for a while and for good reason it seems. Looking forward to it's release now
@LiamCroft
Thanks a lot for the quick reply ^^
Definitely ordering it.
Cocorico ! xD
If only Blue Prince and the Oblivion remake were not so fresh as to allow time for this one. Looking forward to trying this one out, even if it might have to wait a bit. Looks like the kind of game some have been asking for out of the Final Fantasy series for years now.
Charlie Cox in a leading role for an RPG epic is all I needed to hear, will download on Gamepass to play while I recover from surgery
Thanks for the review team.
Nice one, looks really good!
I'm so glad to see that this gane has lived up to expectations. It's been in my top 3 most anticipated games of the year, but I was expecting a 7 or an 8 out of 10. To see it in the low 90s on metacritic is fantastic, especially for a debut game from a smaller studio. Can't wait to pick this up now
You love to see it. I can't wait. I'm off tomorrow and going to dive in. 😊
Sweet. I very rarely preorder especially with unknown IP but for some reason I did with this. Glad it turned out well!
@UltimateOtaku91 but they did decide to shadow drop just days before this releases lol.
Nice, this game has looked like quality ever since the first reveal.
The madmen did it! Great to see from a tiny team that exudes passion. It's currently the highest rated game of the year, can't wait.
Game Pass is cooking this week. This and Oblivion Remastered
Excellent, can't wait for tomorrow when my pre-order drops!
@LiamCroft Could you please comment on whether the game on PS5 (Pro) supports
a) HDR
b) Haptic Feedback
c) Adaptive Triggers
//Edit: d) 3D Audio?
and maybe give a bit of detail, how good/bad the respective implementation is. Thanks in advance!
According to the current PSN listing it supports Vibration only.
PS: I would really, really appreciate it a great deal, if the existence (or absence for that matter of course) of these features were addressed in reviews by default, as it is often very hard to get reliable information about this before making a purchase - particularly about HDR support, which for me is a make-or-break feature when deciding between XSX, PS5 Pro and PC versions.
Really been rooting for this game. The idea of a JRPG but with a western approach seems so obvious but it’s hard to think of many examples besides this one, from a new IP from a new studio no less. Can’t wait to grab this.
Excellent review and great review score for a game made by a small team on not a massive AAA budget.
Please let the big publishers take note that you do not have to create games with 100s if millions of dollars.
We as gamers are happy with great storytelling and gameplay
Boy i picked a hell of time to not buy any new games and hammer the backlog..
🥸
Damn, this reads like a human version of Nier:automata with its combination of despair and silliness in the story telling. Is that correct? Mixing the turn-based combat with souls-like parries feels like a great idea as well.
Never even heard about this game, but it could potentially be my game of the year if Death Stranding 2 didn’t exist.
@Bagwag82 hope it performs well enough to send the right message to publishers.
Getting great impressions outside of the industry. Might just have to get this game sooner rather then later.
Well ain't I glad to have the week off to play it, I knew this game was going to be a banger.
Between BG3 and this, I really wish I liked turn-based games.
@UltimateOtaku91 And had its marketing rights.
That said they'll likely have had a little say in it's release date given how much they'll have paid for it to be on Gamepass? But even if they didn't, I'm surprised they didn't space their other releases out a touch more around Expedition 33. Especially trying to play through them all on Gamepass where you add in Avowed and South of Midnight as well (though I suppose on that side of things Indy and FH5 have been out for a bit longer)
I'm not going to complain about more games, but for a publisher that 3 years ago was struggling to get 1 or two major releases out a year, this feels like overcompensation 😅
Ffs why did it have to be this good , it would be fine if I had any type of self control , just ordered off amazon and only 39.99, bargain 😁
@Darude84 Ive seen this comment a few times that nobody was aware of this game, i dont understand how? its been shown at multiple game shows over the last year and had many game previews on every game website.
@Toot1st they probably have seen it but forgot the name , it is a bit of a mouthful
Get in buzzing it's top tier had this pre installed weeks ago ready to play can't wait 🙂
Although I say all this without playing a single minute of the game — Man, I’m really impressed with what Sandfall and Kepler have done here. They seem to have done so many things right that bigger publishers and developers are still getting wrong.
First of all just an interesting setting and concepts for a new IP; it appears to have such a creative vision. Gameplay also sounds fresh and unique.
Furthermore, the timing of release is well placed, especially if not for the Oblivion stealth drop which now almost feels like a targeted attempt by Bethesda to get out in front of this game and steal some thunder. That aside, the release window is favorable for success and get some eyes on it during a relative lull in the spring.
The marketing has been fantastic too, with little teases and drip-feed information at a good rate to build hype over the last couple months, yet also not too much as to oversell and make it tiresome.
Then the launch price point at $50, with a 10% pre-order bonus — what a great sweet-spot for this kind of game. Most big publishers would try to shoot for $60 or $70 and then in a couple months discount it at various sales until it settles in at $40 in a year or so. With the $50 price tag people are so much more apt to just get it day one rather than wait a few months. Also, the game length sounds like it’s at a good spot, 35-40 hours to mainline, but 70 or more if you want to soak it all in. Maybe a smidge longer than I would like since I’m a guy they explores around a lot and my playtimes are on the larger end, but I’m grateful to have a nice RPG that’s not asking a minimum of 100 hours from me.
And then finally, the they didn’t scrimp on casting (Charlie Cox, Jennifer English, Andy Serkis, and then Clive Rosfield himself, Ben Starr! Awesome.) and music and technical stability, despite the AA space it resides in.
I don’t really have time in my schedule to play this yet, but I feel obligated as a fan of video games and creative art to support the game. As others have said, I hope some of the big studios that churn out samey bloated cut-and-paste games that are broken on release will take note. Again, I say all this without having played the game and only based on reviews. But that’s what reviews are for — to decide whether to try it and everything looks great so far!
Not typically into turned based rpgs but this does catch my eye. I think i've bought precisely 3 games this decade, I feed exclusively on ps+ services nowadays and my natural stance is now naturally, ill play that in 2 years time when it comes to subscription services but with the generous price I'm as tempted as I've been for a long time by this.
Well, looks like I know what i will be playing this weekend.
How long is the game? I've played several 50 plus hour games recently and I'd prefer something that's 30 or less.
@NinjaWaddleDee I've read it's around 25 hours if you mainline the story.
Review reads well but most of those pics are so brown. Dark brown, with some dark shadows thrown in for contrast. I started "Visions of Mana" a few days ago, definitely more my speed. 😂 Would be quite the contrast to play this next, that's for sure. Maybe I'll wait to see if DQ12 is still going to turn based. I think I recall reading it's going to be darker or more adult or mature or some such. And I kind of have to play that b/c DQ. It is nice to have a variety of options and something new. Maybe I'll wait a year and see what QoL improvements they make.
This means an instant buy and probably a GOTY contender
@LiamCroft hi Liam nice review as always thank you!
Can I ask were you close to awarding this a 10?
Selfishly hoped it wouldn't be great so I wouldn't have to buy yet another game. Ah well, gona throw it in the PS basket when I get home
This was going to be a day 1 purchase for me but now we have Oblivion so...oof. Definitely one I'm going to buy buy maybe in a week or so.
Good or bad review I would of still played this game but it's amazing to see a great review
Nice review I'm glad it got such a great score but even if it got a 6 I still would buy it, I've been interested ever since seeing it's trailer at the Xbox showcase last year. The turn based battle system I've been craving for a game like that for years and yes I've been back to some classic but too see a new one with it for a change is great. Be getting it soon just finishing off AC Brotherhood
@Toot1st Probably my interest wasn’t peaked to watch a video.
@Dodoo Nah, it was always a 9/10. A strong, excellent game all around.
Reads like a 10, so that's cool.
The mini-map (or lack of) can make or break the game for me, so I'm glad I can try it on Game Pass before buying.
Haven't been this excited for an RPG since BG3!
It caught my attention with the first trailer. I'm so happy to hear that the game turns out amazing
Ever since this showed up at "Not E3" this has been one of the few games i wanted to play, it just looks awesome
That’s confirmed the Day 1, thank you!
Last night I turned on my PS5 Pro and just listened to the game screen music and watched the countdown timer until I can play.
Just got Oblivion, so I have to give it just a bit, but I'm really glad it turned out.
Now this is a surprise!
Goodbye sleep, nice knowing you.
@LiamCroft is French voice acting included?
@UltimateOtaku91 I bought the same two games in the past two days, haha! I will be buying this one too, but my wallet is hurting. I’ll be fine, though, lol.
@LiamCroft is there map to open by press touchpad ? Is there difficulty mode to choose?
Glad it reviewed well. Was going to pick it right away, but Oblivion dropped and it's quite good. Ill wait for a small sale.
@LiamCroft It says fun exploration but the Eurogamer review says it's incredibly linear and the dungeons are boring. It compares it to FFXIII. I trust PS more than EG bit it's still a stark contrast.
I can't get over how much the main character looks like Robert Patterson. It's actually distracting
@Dalamar Yes it is.
@Porhawj You only get a map in the main overworld. In the actual locations, there's no map. There are three difficulty modes to choose from.
@Matroska I can't say I really agree it's linear and boring. It's definitely more open than Final Fantasy XIII.
I have GamePass, but going to buy it on PlayStation just to support the devs. They deserve all the praise and can't believe it's only $50.
Never heard of this, but added to the wish list. Will get on sale down the line.
@LiamCroft Excellent review, thank you - I'll even forgive you listing the talent involved and missing out the Devil of Hell's Kitchen himself...!
Anyway, it's my birthday today and, thanks to your review, this just became my present to me.
@LiamCroft Okay, thanks. They liked it overall but those were two criticisms they made. As I said, I put more weight on PS reviews than EG's so I thought I'd ask.
Also they said there's only a few towns - is that another exaggeration?
Why did Oblivion have to come out... I want to play this too.
92 on metacritic ps5 reviews 91 for pc..
This game was not on my radar at all but the reviews I’ve seen certainly make it a must buy. It’s on my list now. Made by 30 people and puts most aaa devs to shame. It’s crazy that this keeps happening
Argh, just got it and now have to wait 14 hours to play it where now all other games don't seem interesting to me to play.
Such a power move to make a game of this quality only 50 bucks. Meanwhile assumedly lesser games are still more expensive in the latest PS store sale! I am waiting until my day off next month to fire this up, spent way too much money in April already but it seems amazing, really looking forward to diving in
Turn based turns me off. Shame. Wish it was like FF 16.
@Marquez Thank you for your support, and enjoy!
@Matroska That is correct, there aren't many towns. However, I don't think they'd really make much sense in this situation anyway.
You're going to a place where everyone before you has failed and been killed. There aren't any humans there to set up civilization in the first place.
Looking forward to this one. I'll be picking this up even though I won't play it right away just to support the devs, and send the message to the greedy publishers/shareholder overlords, that this is what we want.
Makes triple AAA devs, including the formulaic Sony slop, look like the work of lazy amateurs. Roughly a 30 person team made this in 4-5 years...
Congrats to Sandstorm. Sounds like an incredible Debut title. I hope this turns out to be a massive sales success for them so the message is heard loud and clear.
I am so excited to play this!
Pre ordered right away.
Great review... thanks
Pre-ordered and installed, can't wait!
Push Square giving it a 9? Holy *****, game must be amazing. So pumped!!
I’ve had the pre-order set since they opened. I wanted to support the studio because they seem so passionate and looked like they could be the next up-and-coming devs with massive talent. If they delivered such a big yet gorgeous game with a small studio, they’ll keep on getting better as the years go on. Plus, the premise/concept of “The Paintress” and the number written was so damn cool in the first few trailers. So, I have faith in their storytelling, world-building and the actual skills to develop more than one hit game
Even though I bought the game and am keeping it, I’m thinking of waiting until a few patches come. I would like to wait until the lip sync issue gets remedied somewhat. Plus, it’ll be more polished with more time. My Amazon order got delayed to Tuesday which is a blessing in disguise 😂😂😂
I hope everyone has a blast playing it this weekend!!!
@mrbone I'm pretty sure a good bit of people are into this precisely because it is NOT like FFXVI. I couldn't believe they called that game a FF.
@lazarus11 "just ordered off amazon and only 39.99, bargain"
Literally did the same just this second. Cracking price for a quality game.
@Kidfunkadelic83 same here, my delivery date is Saturday D:
Do you and @lazarus11 have the same delivery dates?
@B0udoir There is French voice acting, yes.
@Mintie upon order at about 9am mine was due for delivery up to 10pm tonight.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Just checked and mines been updated to 'Arriving Today', good times!
@Mintie nice one. Lets home Amazon dont F up the deliveries. I will be dropping Oblivion to play this as i really havnt got on with it at all thus far.
@Mintie mines still saying Saturday, its fine I've got like a million games 😂
@Kidfunkadelic83 mine just arrived, gonna finish up work for the day, have a late lunch and dive on in.
@lazarus11 Been a bit overwhelmed with my backlog recently and got in a bit of a funk with choice paralysis. Think this being brand spanking new AND being one of my most anticipated might just get me back on track.
I've put an hour or two into this and already it has its claws in me. Very intriguing and mysterious beginning. I'm getting Lost Odyssey vibes from the turn based combat.
@Mintie lucky you. All our phonelines and systems have gone down at work for over an hour now so im sittling here, twiddling my thumbs wishing i could finish early and go home but its not even arrived yet. Hope you enjoy it buddy.
Ahhh, man, torn between this and Oblivion but feel the quality of this, and the fact it isn't a 500 hour RPG may just be the clincher
I watched a small tidbit of combat and the game looks really fun.
Played about 5 hours so far and loving it. The game looks gorgeous and the combat is fun. I’d still be playing if I didn’t have to go to work tomorrow!
@LiamCroft Two Questions
1. How does this game perform on the base PS5?
2. Coming from a French Studio, is there a French audio language option? If so, have you tried it out?
I haven't noticed any out of sync lip sync in my short play through. Though I'm playing on PC and playing in English language.
Looks awesome. Going to play Oblivion first, but I definitely will get this at some point.
Looks like this will be my next big PS5 purchase
You know the hype was right when real life gets in the way and all you want to do is play more Clair Obscure. This game is brilliant. Music, environment, gameplay its all there. 11 hours in and I do not want to put it down. Sandfall deserve all the plaudits and awards that will be coming their way!
it's not quite at the baldur's gate 3 or elden ring level so a 9 score is the correct score..
Hummm, maybe it's time I start buying new games!
I heard the game is only made by 30 people, is that true? That's super crazy if it's true.
@B0udoir tbere is french but english voices are so good in this game that's a shame to put in english, take a look at the cast for english (origibal version) before decide
I had stopped buying new games due to my big backlog. But I just had to buy this one due to the unique way it surprised gamers with its gorgeous graphics, great voice acting, unique story, and above all price - just $50.
I never buy indie games as I am not into games with 16-bit era 2D graphics.
But this game delighted me for sure, and I hope to see similar games from indi devs that look like AAA game and sold at a price most gamers can afford.
And just look at these latest MetaCritic and User scores showing Universal Acclaim.
92 PS5 Based on 64 Critic Reviews
90 PC Based on 45 Critic Reviews
93 Xbox Series X Based on 14 Critic Reviews
User 9.7 Based on 3,221 User Ratings
@JB_Whiting I said this as soon as I started playing too. It's mad isn't it haha
@Kairuuu Not likely from this site, which will probably double down on a PS5 exclusive, like they did for Spiderman 2 over BG3.
Just dropping in to say…
I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH!!!
I honestly hate the combat. It's turn based Souls that focuses more on learning patterns than actual strategy, something a turn based RPG should excel at.
