Update []:
A short teaser trailer for anime follow-up Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has been released, confirming that protagonist “David is dead but Night City lives on”.
Speaking at Anime Expo 2025 this weekend, as reported by Gematsu, writer Bartosz Sztybor said:
“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City. And to again have the legendary animation Studio Trigger along for the ride makes us at CD Projekt RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before.”
Exciting times!
Original Story: We’ve known for a little while that a new Cyberpunk 2077 anime is in the works, but now we have more information: it’ll be a sequel to the outstanding Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – and yes, Japanese animation house Studio Trigger is once again at the helm.
“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is in production,” an announcement on X (or Twitter) reveals. “It presents a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077 – a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”
The announcement’s accompanied by some outstanding new artwork from Ichigo Kanno, which we’ve embedded above.
While no release date has been revealed, you can expect the show to air on Netflix, like the original.
The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a wonderful achievement, depicting a hyperviolent story with sumptuous artwork and animation.
In fact, so impactful was the series that collaborations featuring characters like Lucy have been confirmed for various other pieces of media, such as Guilty Gear Strive and Wuthering Waves.
