In a shock announcement, Ecco the Dolphin creator Ed Annunziata has nonchalantly revealed that remasters of the original SEGA Genesis games are currently in-development. Trademarks for the series were spotted earlier in the year.
In even more exciting news, a new game is also in production, with the franchise’s official website currently counting down to 25th April, 2026.
The announcement was buried within an interview on Xbox Wire, but it all aligns with SEGA’s current strategy of resurrecting its historic intellectual property. Sequels to fan favourites like Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi are also in-development.

“Me and the entire original team are going to remaster the original Ecco the Dolphin and [The] Tides of Time games,” Annunziata casually revealed.
“Then we will make a new, third game with contemporary play and GPU sensibilities. Stay tuned to eccothedolphin.com.”
Annunziata didn’t mention specific platforms, but considering where this interview was posted, an Xbox Series X|S version seems inevitable. And, frankly, if a project’s targeting Xbox, then it’s almost certainly coming to the much more popular PS5 as well.
