PS5's Brilliant New State of Play Breaks Records for Sony 1

The latest State of Play, which aired just hours ago on 4th June, is already the most viewed ever.

With 2.8 million views at the time of writing, the broadcast is comfortably above Horizon Forbidden West’s dedicated livestream, as well as 2022’s summer State of Play. It’ll be really interesting to see if Ghost of Yotei’s upcoming broadcast can beat these.

It’s worth underlining that this isn’t the most viewed PlayStation livestream ever: that accolade is reserved for the manufacturer’s various PS5 reveal broadcasts and the PS Showcases it aired in 2021 and 2023 respectively.

But as far as State of Plays go, this is the biggest. What’s interesting is that the branding has clearly been growing with each successive instalment, as the fourth largest State of Play of all time was the one it held in February earlier this year, so two of the top five are from 2025 alone.

To put into perspective just how successful the latest State of Play was, it has accrued considerably more views in a little over 24 hours than 2016’s infamous E3 press conference has amassed over the past nine years.

It’s going to be really interesting to see whether it saves PS Showcases for new console reveals moving forwards, and settles on the State of Play formula for everything else. As we pointed out in our recent reaction, we think it finally understood the assignment with this year’s show.
