A series of Silent Hill F previews have gone live today, detailing the experiences of other games media websites based on five hours of play. Impressions are overwhelmingly positive, suggesting the first completely new game in the series will pick up where Silent Hill 2 left off with another excellent survival horror experience. Below you'll find various Silent Hill F impressions.
IGN
So far, Silent Hill f seems to be a horror game that gets everything right. If, like me, the Silent Hill 2 remake was one of your favorite games of 2024, Silent Hill f has the potential to become a serious game of the year contender when it releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 25.

But there's already plenty within the opening five hours of the game that have me theory crafting, underlining and circling words in my notebook. I may be wobbly on the combat feeling a bit overbaked, but there's still time before launch for this to be tweaked and, to be honest, much of it can be dealt with in the usual Silent Hill way of bashing and hoping for the best. But when it comes to vibes and atmosphere, Silent Hill f is luxurious – I can't wait to wade deeper into the fog and try my best to figure out what it all means.
Polygon
Many familiar Silent Hill franchise elements are present in Silent Hill f, from its everypeople protagonist, to its threat-masking fog, to highly challenging boss encounters with twisted monsters that reflect the personal strife of its hero. But Silent Hill f doesn’t feel like it’s crossing things off a list, just to make sure it’s a Silent Hill game beyond its title. There are some intriguing thematic and aesthetic twists on what’s become a very familiar setting over the past 25 years, and some solid gameplay to back it up. Konami and NeoBards may have another surprisingly good modern Silent Hill game on their hands, and we won’t have to wait long to experience its horrors.
Game Informer
Perhaps more than anything, I’m just happy to see the Silent Hill franchise firing on all cylinders again. Silent Hill f has the makings of a strong entry that maintains the positive momentum of last year’s great Silent Hill 2 remake.
Silent Hill F launches for PS5 on 25th September 2025. Are you happy to hear the horror title is shaping up nicely? Let us know in the comments below.

Best horror game of the year award incoming i love it
I'm so hyped for Silent Hill f! My PS5 Pro and I are ready!
2 Silent Hill games in 1 year. Silent Hill 1 being remade. I love to see the comeback for this series!
I'm so happy I got the steel book on preorder, really can't wait to play this!
I'm in Tunisia for a week the day this launches.
Looking forward to diving into it when I get back though
I'm cautiously optimistic (because Konami) but 5 years ago I wouldn't have believed this was happening. I'm rarely this hyped for a game, this seems so promising.
I just watched IGN preview video. So turns out the game has weapon durability and stamina gauge. I can tolerate stamina gauge because the protag is a normal high school girl. But weapon durability and with rare amount of tool to fix it? Ummm 🤔
Silent Hill 4 and Downpour has weapon durability and the majority dislike it. So i don't think it's a good idea to bring back this mechanic again. Imagine your weapons got broken in the middle of boss fight or when you surrounded by multiple enemies.
It's just funny how they made a combat mechanic where you can do charge attack or dodge which emphasize players to do combat. But then add weapon durability which is the opposite of doing combat.
But eh, we'll see...
Chronos on 9/5 and SHf on 9/25? My belly be full.
I can’t wait — Silent Hill 2 Remake is in my top 5 games this generation. With that said, from the trailers for SHF it was pitch perfect in terms of atmosphere, but I thought the movement and combat looked very janky. I’m glad to see that it’s not bothering people as much which gives me hope that it’s solid in those areas.
I don't want to get my hopes up too high because Silent Hill hasn't had a great entry that isn't a remake in a very long time. But I'd be lying if I said I'm not hyped.
@PuppetMaster I love weapon durability in games so this is right up my alley. Also SH4 had weapon durability for a very specific weapon among a variety of other melee weapons that didn't. Although I thought it would follow in the footsteps of Downpour where you search for multiple weapons and stockpile them. Don't really understand the complaint though, it's a survival horror game and it also works the same way any game with guns and ammo would.
Environs look great. Game is looking sharp smooth and detailed, this would be a weapon durability game if ever just gona roll with it also they’re releasing too many spoilers so will lay off
I might be in the minority, but I'm not a massive fan of the setting. One of my favourite things about the Silent Hill games, especially the Silent Hill 2 remake, was exploring the modern, rundown setting.
For now Clair Obscur is the best game of 2025, but I hope as much as I can that Silent Hill f will dethrone it.
Will it have a native English version? I really don’t want to have to stare at subtitles when I’m ’looking over my shoulder’ so to speak.. love subtitles for movies and stuff as I’m deaf in my right ear but when it comes to gaming I need to be immersed
SH2 Remake was ok for the most part but I enjoyed playing all the way through to the end, Unreal Engine 5+ was ok except some performance issues here and there but nothing game breaking on standard none slim nor pro console. SHF is not drawing me in, if I’m honest it’s the girl, no disrespect to teenage girls by the way 🤣
@Nepp67 For me, i didn't like weapon durability in survival horror or other genres because there's nothing fun nor challenging from the mechanic. It also didn't add any substantial gameplay experiences either. The mechanic is just pointless and the only function is forced players to sink more times to; 1) managing inventory, 2) explore the area to find repair tools or the same weapons. The mechanic became really annoying when it's combine with multiple gameplay mechanics that also put limitations on what players can do.
I don't know why you like it though but good for you i guess.
I’m on media blackout for this game, but so happy to hear that it’s receiving positive previews. It looks AMAZING ☠️
@PuppetMaster Yeah, scavenging, managing your resources, and exploring, that sounds like every survival horror to me dude. It just simply doesn't sound like it's your thing.
I’ll wait for reviews on it. I love the look of it, but didn’t have as much fun with the SH2 remake as I thought I would (and the less said about the free SH game from earlier last year, the better). This and Yotei are basically the only two games that really stand out to me in the non-indie-ish space on PS5 for the rest of the year, so looking forward to seeing more.
If the steelbook imagery freaks me out, I'm not sure if I'll manage to get through this very well! Still, I want it anyway 😊
I'm not amazing with horror, yet I'm always drawn to such games. What I won't do though is play a game like this in the dark/night time AND on my own, I need someone with me if I'm going to play at night.
@Ellie-Moo I can stand outside your window and watch you play. Just kidding. Just kidding.
@RaiLiOn Of course! Yes, I know you're joking around...
(Immediately closing all curtains/drapes...)
@PuppetMaster Can't stand that dynamic either one because it doesn't make any sense. Why would hitting something soft with a crowbar several times snap or break it? All they really need to do is make the bosses harder not make the player ferret around for tools every five minutes. Some argue it ramps up tension which is also cobblers as the top rated survival horror titles don't feature the mechanic. Personally I think it's used as an excuse to drag out the length of a game.
@Anya-chan God I hope so. I loved the SH2 remake, and I'm a fan of these Japanese settings. And the fact that the story is being written by the Higurashi: when they cry writer fills me with hope for the story
@Jammer "Personally I think it's used as an excuse to drag out the length of a game"
This i fully agreed 🤝
And yeah the argument that said the mechanic can "increase tension" is pure rubbish. RE doesn't have weapon durability and it still quite intense. Or Fatal Frame, it doesn't have weapon durability either and it also intense.
@Nepp67 Don't mixed up my dislike for how pointless weapon durability is with scavenging / exploring and inventory management in survival horror.
I'm okay for scavengin and inventory management especially scavengin if it makes sense and leads to good rewards that respect my playing time to do it. Example; in og Resident Evil 2, players can get a weapon upgrade for handgun and shotgun if they spend a bit more time exploring the area. But if players didn't want to spend more time with exploration and they confident with their skill and current weapons, they can continue the game just fine. That's what i called good gameplay design.
But force to scavengin just for the sake of searching the same weapons because my current ones will be broken after landed a couple of hits is just stupid.
Like i said, there's nothing unique, challenging, nor fun from weapon durability in survival horror games. It's a mechanic that only purpose is unnecessarily wasted your playing time and drag out the length of the game.
But again, i'm here not asking you to agree with my opinion. If you like it then good for you. Period.
@PuppetMaster "But force to scavengin just for the sake of searching the same weapons because my current ones will be broken after landed a couple of hits is just stupid"
Your opinion isn't making sense here to me other than it's "wasting your time" which can also be said for games like Resident Evil. Once again you have to do this as well for every survival horror game, you lose ammo, you gotta search for ammo because you wasted ammo just like melee weapons with durability. Games with melee weapons can also lead to good rewards, like was stated in some of the previews there are upgrades to your character, toolkits to save your main melee weapon and there will more than likely be stronger melee weapons to find.
This looks good but I'll BEE checking out Ground 2 first!
Get it?! Like the insect the bee might be in the game?!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAH!!!!!!!!!!! ROFL! ROFL! ROFL!!!!!!!
Can't wait for this it's gunna be sick. This and Digimon are 2 games I'm excited for the most rn 😎
@Batesy125s yeah the main reason im super excited is because of the higurashi creator is writing the story we need more asian settings for future SH i never got into SH in the first place mainly because of the setting but now it's different and i love it
@Anya-chan tbh I really liked the small town American setting but I love the idea of them changing the setting to Japan. You're right about needing more Asian settings, especially for horror games. I love the Fatal frame games for this reason
@Batesy125s after this one im down for one in china or SK
Surprised no-one has pointed out the blatant similarity between the setting and imagery between this and the Forbidden Siren series...
@PuppetMaster Isn't that one of the strong points of "survival" horror tho?
@ArashiKageTaro Weapon durability never been the strong point of survival horror.
@Jammer Yeah it looks quite similar with Siren. Sadly we're never gonna get a new one because the series didn't sold well and Toyama already left Sony...
@PuppetMaster Didn't he do Slitterhead though I may be wrong but wasn't that originally going to be Siren 3? Or is the Siren franchise owned by Sony exclusively which could mean a Kojima/Konami type scenario. Surely Siren didn't do too badly I mean there were 3 games.
