Update []:
Star Wars Battlefront 2 continues to go from strength to strength, as the multiplayer shooter has now recorded its highest ever concurrent user count on Steam, of 18,635 within the last 24 hours. This is double its previous record, which was just under 10,000 players.
While it's harder to track on PlayStation, we can see via the PS Time Tracker website that the game has entered the top 100 most played PS5, PS4 games of the last 30 days. It's the 32nd most played title, and previously it wasn't even in the top 100.

Original Story: Thanks to this month's May the 4th celebrations, the new season in Fortnite, and the second season of Andor, it looks like Star Wars fans are really feeling the Force at the moment, and have decided to return to Star Wars Battlefront 2 in their droves.
The multiplayer-focused title from 2017 is experiencing a significant resurgence, with player tracking charts spiking on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. SteamDB reveals players began returning to the game just after 4th May, and it's been gaining popularity ever since. The PC version is peaking at just under 10,000 concurrent players, which isn't far off the game's all-time highest player count from over four years ago.

It's harder to track player counts on consoles, but last week, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was the 22nd most played game on the Xbox platform, whereas usually it does not feature in the top 50. Meanwhile, on PlayStation, True Trophies tracks a limited pool of PS5, PS4 users, and the title re-entered the top 40 charts last week.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 proved a controversial release when it first launched all those years ago due to EA's handling of microtransactions. The game eventually recovered and now has a much stronger reputation for excellent multiplayer battles in the Star Wars universe.
It's not being supported with new content anymore, but you can grab the Celebration Edition of the PS4 game on sale for £8.74 / $9.99 until 4th June on the PS Store, if you want to be part of the community returning to the title. It's also part of the EA Play subscription service.

I was definitely one of the returning players. After Andor had an urge to go back to the game. It's still a fantastic Star Wars game. Just a shame the monetisation issues really left a bad taste to alot of players. As if it released as is now, it would have been wildly more successful.
I checked my library and it seems i got this via ps+ at some point. Maybe i'll try it at last.
Andor saved Star Wars in more than just live action.
Ooooh! I am downloading this right now. I have played since the beginning, and it is just a bunch of fun. Shoutout to the hero battles and watching Yoda bounce all over the place!
It really did get fantastic by the end of support. I just worry that if they saw the demand and made a third entry then Disney would demand the sequel trilogy be the focus.
EA needs to wake up make Battlefront 3 already..
A PS5/Series relaunch with new content and roadmap is the dream.
Andor really is that good
Not a big Star Wars guy, but I've been tempted to fire it back up recently.
It should be noted the game didn’t launch on Steam until 2020, way after it’s peak time.
I will still argue that EA's Battlefront 2 ended up being the best Star Wars game ever made. It did not start that way, and took time to reach that status. But the way it is today, no other game feels more like playing the Star Wars films.
When I played this when it came on to PS+, I really enjoyed it. Even went for the platinum (and got it)
The good thing about modern gaming is that 7/10 games from say 2017-2021 have been updated for many years, often with DLC, and modern consoles have caught up in terms of technical prowess making the game's effectively better and bigger.
Dying Light 2 is another example of a game that I enjoy even more on my second playthrough. There's almost too much content which can dilute the overall quality and difficulty, but speed running around the city on a Pro is just plain fun as it should be!
Really enjoyed this game. Need to download again and get some playtime in to show interest for a new game.
@DissCravis Depends how you look at it. In terms of MP and shooting then yeah i agree but story wise and capturing that feeling of being a Jedi/Sith then the KOTOR games are king. In terms of lightsaber combat i would say Revenge of the Sith or the Fallen Order games have that nailed.
@DissCravis I like EA BF2, but the 2005 is better in almost every way, especially map size, space fights, content etc.
I don't see why EA BF2 would be the best SW games when it misses too much from the original title.
Never stopped playing it. It's my go to fto a quick round or 3 of Heros. My most played game hours wise.
@DennisReynolds ah man I’d even pay for it. Such a shame that they ended support when they did, imagine all of the extra clone wars/rebels/mando/andor and whatever else content we could have had added in!
Its been years since I played this, I preferred the first one though
Have this on my home front, plays great still, full of players and is a great fps
@Elodin Same here! I never stopped playing it. Might not be playing as many hours as I once have, but I'm on there most nights getting some time in. Love it!
Got the first Battlefront game fully years ago when I renewed for a year of PS+ on my PS4 they had amazing deals back then for PS4. Get a years a sub and give away a full free game on top which got Battlefront Ultimate Edition.
Shame they don't do all that anymore even the sales on PS4 were even better than PS5
@GymratAmarillo
As a lifelong Star Wars fan I have enjoyed the majority of the shows thus far not just Andor. Skeleton Crew was good, Bad Batch was good, all the Tales of were pretty good, Ashoka was fine, the only outright "bad" one for me was Acolyte, and maybe Boba Fett which even then still had it's moments. I feel some people just want to find anything and everything to b--ch and moan about (or are just butthurt that some things aren't canon anymore which does not in any way, shape or form affect your enjoyment of past content) no matter how meaningless it is. The batting average is better than some people want to give honest credit for.
I liked Battlefront 2, but if I was to go Star wars games (which I might thanks to Andor), I'd rather play the Jedi games, or even rogue squadron, which I really enjoyed. Very happy for the people who are back into Battlefront though. It's definitely improved a lot since release
@PegasusActual93
And usually the things they consider cannon were in fact never cannon in the first place.
@Fandabidozi2025
And conveniently forget that Legends had way more garbage stories than they would like to admit.
I've been playing this bad boy on and off for years. I love it every time I come back (special shoutout to Starfighter Assault).
I'm so happy that people are finding their way back! Hopefully, this lights a fire under Dice's ass to get a 3rd spun up.
Oh no, am I going to jump back into BF2 and get completely wrecked by Maul again? Probably
People should give outlaws another shot over this. I'm glad they fixed the money grab scheme of it, but outlaws wasn't the insidious mess that battlefront 2 was. First, the always online requirement was inaccurate for rage bait sakes, and the bug reports were also blown way out of proportion. Too bad the internet prefers to give blue tick engagement trolls the attention they desire.
I work in videogame distribution and we've actually been selling copies of this game every single day. Granted, they're the Latin American copies with Spanish text on the cover and we have to put a sticker that says it's playable in English, but the demand is definitely there.
@tameshiyaku Outlaws is real fun I thought. And they patched in QoL updates after I finished it. Like being actually able to aim from the speeder lol
I did my part! After seeing the Series finale of Andor I had to join the rebellion.
It would be nice if DICE hadn't shut down all support for the game and at least released some of the added character DLC that they were planning on; like Ahsoka and Ventress.
