One of the most iconic games of the last 20 years is BioShock, and it seems as though 2K Games may be planning to announce a new project in this acclaimed series.
That's according to MP1st, which claims to have obtained information about a new BioShock something to be announced in the coming months.
Apparently, whatever the project is, the underwater setting of Rapture will "play a significant role". Based on this, the outlet has a few ideas of what might be on the horizon.
MP1st suggests it might be to do with the movie adaptation, which will inevitably take place in Rapture. Another possibility is a remake or remaster of the 2007 original game, as the report says there are "clear references" to it in the information they have.
A new BioShock game has been in the works for a long time, formally announced in 2019. Though reports since then have claimed this fourth game is set in a fictional Antarctic city, it's possible Rapture could appear somewhere.
There's definitely more BioShock in the pipeline, but it's hard to pin down exactly what 2K could be gearing up to talk about soon — assuming this report is accurate.
What do you want from BioShock next? Would you take a remake of the original, or are you patiently waiting to see that brand new entry? Dive into the comments section below.

Bioshock is easily in my top five games of all time, so I’m always excited to hear about more!
I will never forgive Bioshock infinite for trying to retcon 1 & 2 with it's burial at sea DLC, hot take but Bioshock 2 is the best.
Nooooooooooooo! I don't want or need a remaster, please either leave it or alone or have an extremely strong creative voice for a new game. Le sigh.
@Odium me as well buddy. I just adored everything about it especially the rapture city. Beautiful yet disturbing iconic game location. I played bioshock 1/2 countless times. Never get bored with it.
I like the fact that 2K, because they are owned by Take-Two interactive, are actually allowed time to make their games and not forced to release their games until they're ready. Even the sports games don't have to follow quite such a rigid annual schedule. The benefits of having a ridiculous amount of money I suppose
Might be a remake
I’ve been wondering if they will go the Antarctic route, but I’m excited nonetheless. The first one is an absolute masterpiece. Also, this might be controversial, but for my tastes personally, Infinite is better and my favorite in the franchise. That game hit me hard.
@Odium yeah it's definitely up there for me. Such a great game. Infinite was really good too
@Americansamurai1 I hope not. I think it holds up perfectly fine as is, especially the PS4 remastered versions.
3 great games, loved all of them. I also would like some news of Judas.
@Kraven yeah but you know they want to cash in on when they release the movie.
That’s tremendously disappointing if true. I don’t want a Bioshock remake or remaster at all. As much as Bioshock is a better game that 95% of games that release now, I’d rather have new games than continue playing games with fresh coats of paint.
When I saw the Minecraft movie in theaters, every trailer was a remade movie. Let’s NOT do this to the gaming industry.
No we need a new gane not another remaster or remake
We will see I enjoy all they're games.word up son
@Oram77 I don’t think so. From a gameplay perspective it’s the best for me. Not story. But gameplay for sure
Knowing how America has gone since the first Bioshock, I’m half expecting a game about how Rapture was actually set up with good intentions and a few bad apples spoiled the batch.
Although Bioshock 2 doesn't have its own killer story twist it's quietly a better game than the original. But I love them both. Bioshock Infinite was pretty good but not on the same level.
No, please don't. I loved the orignal 2 and pre-ordered both of them. Then Infinate arrived and the disapointment was massive, I hated the game.
Hopefully it's not a film or TV series after the awful Fallout adapation I would hate to see a similar effort.
Just let it be, unless something along with showing the background story that is in the book and how Rapture was made, but knowing how things play out it would be full of f-bombs and sex, come to think of it, in this 'woke' time, would "Big Daddies" and "Little Sisters" be allowed?
Oh recently installed the remaster on my system
I’d love a remake that is more aligned with 2, where we can shoot and use powers at the same time.
Please not another damn remasterake.
So tired of this lack of creativity and new ideas in favor of milking old content for a quick buck.
If it is about a remaster or remake, I hope they make it something truly special and add a VR mode
@Kraven me too with Infinite. I remember finishing that game and going out for dinner with my partner and trying to explain the story to her as it has just blown my mind. Great game.
I remember the first time I saw the beginning of Bioshock. I couldn’t play it longer than 10-15 minutes because of motion sickness, but I remember thinking that underwater world was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. The pulchritudinously detailed, stylish world—wow. Everything just popped off the screen. (And yes, I looked up the word “beautiful” in the thesaurus and it offered “pulchritudinous” as an adjective so I used it.)
Whatever they do with a sequel, if it’s even half as awesome as any of the first three entries, it’ll be a damn good game.
@SeanOhOgain you don't, but there's an entire generation of people who never played any of them. I played the remaster of 1 a few years ago my first time experiencing the game, and it did not age that well.
Played Bioshock 1 on Xbox 360 and oh man was I hooked all the way till the end experiencing the plot twist was just brilliant and unexpected. B2 was okay not the best in the world but it's worth playing if you haven't as for Infinite I've tried and tried but I just can't get myself to play it throughout
@Oram77 Bioshock 2 (including its DLC) is indeed the best. The combat is much better than the other 2 games and the Big Sisters were scary AF.
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy I played that remaster and I think it plays and looks great! I understand the financial incentive to do so, I would just rather we move on to new stuff
Bioshock doesn't need a remaster or remake.
@Oram77 you’re right about bioshock ONE being the best! i agree!
@bestuardo bioshock 2 story was worse than the first & playing as a big daddy was not it 👎
I'm terribly scared what they might do to Rapture if they do come back to it.
I mean, Infinite and especially the DLC were abysmal and they were headed by the same guy who came up with Rapture in the first place, so I'm not confident this won't be just cynical nostalgia bait.
Hope I'm wrong.
Infinite should not have been a Bioshock game. It does a lot of unecessary retconning for the sake of connecting parts that don't fit well together.
The biggest sin Infinite made imo was just tease you with the songbird and you never getting to really fight it ever. That really soured the game for me in the end.
My only requirements for a new BioShock game: a lighthouse, a man, and a city.
@amatmulisha @Batesy125s I couldn’t agree more. The original is one of the most atmospheric and unique games I’ve ever played.
I love the entire series, but I adore how they pulled the first game and Infinite together through the Burial at Sea DLC.
@clivegsd You're very much in the minority of thinking the Fallout show was awful.....
Would you kindly remake the original?
Played it recently and it still holds up well, but would love a PS5 remake 🤞
One of my favourite series.
