With Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, Gears of War: Reloaded, and The Outer Worlds 2 already announced for a PS5 release later in the year, Microsoft's multi-platform efforts are now in full swing. One of the long-rumoured Xbox to PS5 ports is Starfield, and according to new claims, the Bethesda RPG is still on track to come to PS5 this year.
NateDrake, a reliable leaker who has been very accurate in the past when detailing the PS5 ports Microsoft has planned, said on Twitter that the intent is for Starfield to be confirmed for Sony's current-gen system this year. Then, when the big reveal does take place, they "expect the gap between announcement and release to be minimal".

Unless the plan from Microsoft is to announce the PS5 port during December, then the short turnaround between the announcement and release suggests Starfield will be out this year. Past rumours have also suggested a PS5 release for the space RPG this year, lining up with the launch of a second expansion. They've also said the PS5 version has been in the works for some time now, and actually already could have come out.
Along with a potential second DLC on top of Shattered Space, the game is still receiving big updates for free. Case in point: this month's patch on Xbox Series X|S and PC has added more Creation quests and items from the community, and a selection of quality-of-life enhancements. Of course, all of these updates and pieces of content would be included in a complete PS5 version, likely along with PS5 Pro improvements.
Below you will find the trailer for the new community Creation you can get inside Starfield. And yes, this is all fan-made despite the fact it could pass as an official trailer:

Save ya money.
Speaking as someone who unfortunately bought Starfield on Series X (albeit at a LARGE discount)…eh.
I’ve tried getting into this game four times now, and I just keep bouncing off. And I love space/sci-fi games.
"best shape" by Bathesda standards means absolutely nothing, just look how Oblivion is doing right now...
This game is an absolute load of crap, don't waste your time if you want to explore space etc by No Mans Sky instead
Save your money or atleast wait for a heavy discount.
I think it’s a solid 7/10 game, if you like slow RPG’s, are open minded and don’t have too high expectations(which shouldn’t be a problem these days) you can definitely have fun with this.
My biggest disappointment is that they haven’t significantly worked on the game and the DLC got atrocious reviews(i never played it yet, despite owning it since pre-release)
My dream is a big 2.0 rework along with a new premium expansion that’s high quality.
I liked it up to a point, but then, like all Bethesda games, there was just so many damn quests to do and I didn't know whether to push on with main or do everything else, so I ended up doing nothing.
It was quite satisfying setting up a Space Amazon Warehouse/Minecraft crossover, but I soon realised I was mining and shipping all these resources to and from planets via more complex shipping hub planets, directing each to its own little area on the main base just to get more resources to build containers to store more resources 🫣
There is definitely fun to be had within the game, but it makes it a bit of a chore to get to that fun.
They can save the port costs on this one. It's boring to the core.
@Oram77 'Best shape' for Bethesda is 6-12 months after launch when fans finish debugging it. Unfortunately console players never get those improvements.
An hour of this was the final push I needed to box up my Series X and sell it.
I love Starfield. It’s amazing for pure self-directed role play and exploration for its own sake.
I put 200 hours into it. It’s a good game, but not a great one. Everything is so dragged out and it misses some major aspects of other BGS games. I’d still recommend it, for the right price.
I admittedly didn’t give this game the proper chance I should have. At the time, I was playing Cyberpunk 2077 (Phantom Liberty) and was enamored with it, but wanted to play SF because it was the big new thing. I played 10 hours, and wasn’t really focusing on dialogue or anything like that. I do remember getting to the first big location and being overwhelmed by the amount of people to speak to, and most of them leading to quests. I ended up putting it down and never playing it again.
When it inevitably comes to PS5, I’ll give it a fair shot because A) it will be in the best shape, with patches and all updated content, and B) it has all of the things I enjoy on a personal level.
each to their own. I thoroughly loved playing through this on my XSX.
Would rather have MS flight simulator
Play Oblivion Remastered instead. These games used to be good
Starfield is a weird experience. It starts off great, throws loads of activities and systems at you, there’s the whole “OMG it’s Skyrim in Space” excitement, pretty fun combat and an interesting skill tree….then you just start noticing the same barren landscapes, the same procedurally generated points of “interest”, nonsensical fetch quests, terrible inventory management, uninspired narrative, load screen after load screen, inconsistent voice acting and lack of any real impact from your choices.
I don’t want to say it’s not worth the money necessarily because I reckon most people get a solid 50-70 hours out of it before they start to drop off but I would recommend anyone desperate to play this on PS5 keep their expectations in check.
Can't wait, have a couple hundred hours in and I really hope MS decides to allow importing existing saves
Played at my friend's place for a few hours and found it incredibly dull. I'll buy it at a heavy discount.
I still think it's great that it's coming to the PS5, since people who are curious can choose to buy the game, but I personally wouldn't recommend.
I would be curious to see how well the game sells on PS5 and if it's worth the time and effort of a port and launch. I really enjoyed the game but it is an acquired taste and it seems like the majority of gamers dislike the game.
If it sells well it will show that there is a silent majority outside the gaming echo chamber that want the game or it will do badly and Microsoft would have wasted time and resources on a port that won't sell.
played it completed it and its not trash, its not great, its a solid 7/10 game.
but its fashionable to hate Bethesda at the moment
but the way the internet works is its trash or great nothing exists inbetween
Unpopular opinion - buzzing for this to land on the Pro 🎉
Please, who are you kidding?
I really like Starfield. It's a very divisive game but there will be plenty of happy players when this arrives on PlayStation.
The hype before this released was unreal. "Generation-defining experience," "Ponies will throw their PS5s out a window in anger," etc.
Nice! Spend 250 hours with it on my Series X (which I sold since then) and I was far from being done! I hope it will be optimized for the Pro.
The game sounds disappointing. I’m playing Skyrim again (only my second playthrough in 14 years!), and it still holds up brilliantly. Yes, it’s missing some quality of life stuff and can be a bit clunky in some regards, but the open world, the deep gameplay, and of course the soundtrack are brilliant. Sounds like Starfield doesn’t move the needle much. I’ll probably play it when it’s deeply discounted.
@SMJ Definitely! One of my favorites. I don’t even need missions to enjoy myself, just the whole experience of lifting off in a big spaceship and traveling to/discovering this endless list of planets never gets old.
It’s one of the most disappointing games I’ve ever played. But I’m sure it will sell so might as well.
Yeah after 7 updates improving perf because most devs can’t release a finished game these days
@frankmcma honestly, I spent so much time with my spaceship - the spaceship editor is amazing - that if I couldn't import my xsx save file, I wouldn't want to start from scratch again!
As a former Xbox One / XSX player, but somebody who now plays on PS5 and Switch exclusively, and now that Forza Horizon is here, and Gears is imminent - Starfield is the only game from Xbox that I miss in any way...
... assuming that the GTA IV and Fallout 3 remasters / reissue rumours come to pass. and Halo makes it across.
Currently sitting at 83 "Generally Favourable" critic reviews and 6.8 "Mixed or Average" user reviews on Metacritic.
I'm going to temper that 83 critic review and consider it lower, as if people care to remember the big controversy with Starfield was Bethesda only giving review codes to outlets they knew would give favourable reviews, leading to a higher pre-launch review score than what it got post-launch.
That stuff aside though, I've heard and read enough reviews indicating it's a mediocre game to know that I'll pass.
But I have no man's sky..why would I want this?
Play No Mans Sky instead.
I'd like to give it a try. I'm not expecting much but I'm used to the typical Bethesda crawl. If it's better than OK, I think I'll get quite into it.
IF game will WHOLE be on disc I'll think about buying.
@djlard "Snowball's chance in Hell" comes to mind.... Bethesda is Bethesda after all and MS will want every penny
They updated it the other day and it was front loaded with Creation Club fixes... that really bummed me out, I mean happy for fans I guess.
This game isn't bad, but every time there is an article I can't help but feel ASTOUNDINGLY DISAPPOINTED by what it is.
NOT worth 70, but worth a go at around 40
@CallMeDuraSouka How hard is to print whole program on disc VS how hard is to print cd key on disc
?
Not bothered about this, sounds like it didn’t live up to its potential
@djlard Kind of hoping Doom caught their attention and they'll make full copies.
But I think MS is just too committed to all digital
Eventually it will be on sale for like $15 and I'll give it a go. I tried it when I briefly had a Series S and didn't think much of it, but that was also while I was playing BG3.
That's a good headline for almost any BGS game besides Starfield. The problems with Starfield aren't your normal BGS bugs and jank.
@ButterySmooth30FPS "The most important RPG of all time" is my favorite. It was so obscene.
I don’t see this one being a big seller.
Yeah, no thanks. Can honestly say i never understood the hype and people forget, before it's release this was touted as the game of the decade, not quite gta 6 as nothing compares to that but the next best after it.
@MrPeanutbutterz the only thing stopping me from trading in the Series X is the Cyberpunk DLC that I bought. Starfield isn’t finished and, frankly, I doubt it ever will be. With so much now on PS5, the Xbox seems surplus to requirements.
@Skippermonkey The only thing that kept me from selling it earlier was a few old 360 games and Sleeping Dogs DE at a locked 60FPS. Once I had finished those, it was already feeling like surplus, Starfield was the final push.
In fairness a mate had text me a few days later asking if I knew anyone looking to sell an XSX for a reasonable price, and so I sold to him.
Looking forward to playing this on PS5. I played it a little back on gamepass when it first came out but fell off it. It's definitely not as bad as people say though, I think it's better than Fallout 4 personally. But Bethesda have been surpassed by newer RPGs such as The witcher 3, Cyberpunk, Elden ring, etc. Heck, even Red dead 2 has some great RPG elements
This is one of the reasons I got a Series S.
My first Bethesda game and found it quite overwhelming. Lots of menus and complicated inventories to get my head around and a very open world made me feel a bit directionless at points.
I’m 20 or so hours in, I’ve enjoyed it and want to pick it up again, but was expecting it to be one of those games once you start you just play exclusively til you complete the story etc, but didn’t happen for me.
I like the look of that trailer! Props to them being able to work the creation tools hard enough to make something that sits on the level of official DLC!
No thanks, I would rather set my money on fire ... literally.
Still fully expecting it.
@trev666 They just are the King in releasing terrible optimised games. And yes some games are horrible to play. Any other studio would have died with the horrible releases they plan.
@Flaming_Kaiser but yet despite releasing terribly optimised games. some fo the games have been among the best ever made
@trev666 Lets agree to disagree.
Tired of all the BS rumors that's been going on forever. If there were ever plans to release it on PS5, they can drop it now. There is such a thing as waiting too long. Don't care anymore.
I will never support Devs who do timed exclusives, and from everything I've seen starfield is a terrible game anyway, even if it were free I would never play it. Bethsuckda is a abysmal dev, they make trash games now and are only around because they had a reputation, a reputation long lost in the gaming ether.
