Re: PS5 Price May Dip Below $400, Analyst Speculates

AlexSora89

One model has to be cheaper than its Xbox counterpart. If not, Sony really needs to bring out big guns this time around.

I'm talking about pulling all the stops and going the extra mile. I'm talking about, y'know, actual exclusives - as in, first-party IPs. Funding a new Wipeout, Parappa The Rapper, Sly or Jak and Daxter game would get Sony much less hate than, say, making sure the Xbox version of Marvel's Avengers has less content for the same price.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Price Under Scrutiny After Disruptive Xbox Series S Reveal

AlexSora89

The more Sony waits, the less time Sony fans (younger ones, or otherwise unemployed) have to save the money needed to get the console by launch (or even Christmas). And considering the digital-only edition is far less different than the standard one compared to the abyss between both versions of Xbox Series X... yeah, you can do the math.

Re: Indie Dev Demonstrates How Bad PS Store Discoverability Can Be

Nintendo eShop is just as much of a trainwreck, if not even more so. The Nintendo 3DS iteration of the platform used to shuffle things around, but nowadays it's mostly a showcase for Nintendo Selects and Switch stuff.

The Xbox store has only now solved the long-standing issue of "if you want to buy a 360 game, buy it on a 360". I used to have fond memories of the PS Store, but ever since the PSP dropped its support those are long gone.

Re: Oh Boy, There'll Be a Backlash to This Marvel's Avengers Trailer

AlexSora89

There's not much that needs to be said, outside of the obvious fact that the trailer is almost at Apple levels of brand narcissism.

That said, I might further point out the obvious by stating that if I buy a PS5 it's for Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart, for The Pathless (which I utterly adore because of its Breath of The Wild-esque game design, contrary to the unoriginal ripoff that is Genshin Impact) and for, I dunno, The Pedestrian maybe? Not for content on a multiplatform title that makes other versions worse (and yet sharing the same price).

Speaking of Exhibit A, I'd like to point out I'm totally siding with @nookie_egg on this matter. Third-party exclusives - may they be software or content, if content is on such a significant scale - are not "exclusives", they're bribes by a more flattering name. Unless an exclusive is gained by financing the game's actual development (e.g. Bayonetta 2, Cuphead) and not by securing a deal, that's just grabbing a game from other console players.
Don't get me wrong: I have utmost respect for most of Sony's IPs (case in point: Ratchet And Clank, which manages to keep Insomniac Games out of the edgefest the industry is seeing), mostly because they're... well, Sony's own IPs. (I have played one game in the series, Size Matters on PSP, but I always found the reliance on bolts and ammo to be rather sluggish in terms of gameplay.)

@Col_McCafferty
Wait, what? Polygon and Kotaku? They're... anti-Sony? I'm not that much of a lurker on either, to be honest. But they're not exactly the first two names that could come to my mind when thinking of being anti-Sony.

Re: Unsurprisingly, Xbox Game Pass Will Not Be Coming to PS5, PS4

AlexSora89

I think what's wrong with what he said is implying that other consoles are to blame. Truth is, the time isn't right yet.
I would take Xbox Game Pass on Nintendo Switch any day, and I'm sure anyone of you would, too. But it would necessitate a good streaming infrastructure, and at the moment internet connections flat-out don't allow it.
I just got optic fiber-powered online, and it still (occasionally) runs like crap. I shudder at the thought of what Xbox Game Pass on all devices entails outside of a country as technologically evoluted as Japan.

Re: Xbox Boss Implies PS5 Exclusives Are 'Counter to What Gaming Is About'

AlexSora89

Well, said it before, will say again - there are two kinds of exclusives.

One is the kind of game that's exclusive by definition, as you - as in, "you who make hardware" - own the IP. You know, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, and the like. That's perfectly fine - I want a Mario game on PlayStation as much as you'd want Kratos to score combos with button prompts that show... shiver in fear... letters.

The other kind is the one you get when you bribe publishers.

There's also next-gen exclusivity at work here, but I just wanted to point it out.

Re: Naughty Dog Condemns Hate Speech As The Last of Us 2 Cast, Developers Receive Death Threats

AlexSora89

First things first: HARASSMENT IS BAD.

With that out of the way, I have to point out two things that have been glossed over:
1) Naughty Dog, as "welcoming critical discussion" as it may be, has also dumbed down the concept of game journalism as "tearing us down", an oversimplification directed at the one journalist who exposed the crunch going on at the company.
2) Troy Baker himself said "I AM JOEL" in a tweet. It's kinda hard to side with voice actors who don't want to be confused with characters they play when their colleagues want to make a point with being one and the same with the characters they play.

Yes, I wanted to prove my point with Jim Sterling videos despite me being a Nintendo fan. Make of that what you will, if you think it invalidates my point.
