Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 Is One of This Year's Most Anticipated Games

As if anyone was looking forward to the Avengers over Cyberpunk, thats the game I'm looking forward to the most with Spider-Man second and very little else that I've seen so far

I just want to know what games actually launch with the thing. Otherwise, i might as well wait until after the new year to get a PS5.

I was a day 1 purchase for the longest time. But as time goes on i see less and less reason to get it Day 1.

@carlos82 you have to realise its Marvel and its fan base is way bigger than that of cyberpunk, but yeah I see where you're coming from, cyberpunk should be top of the list

@get2sammyb @playstation_king I have no doubt Marvel is massive, didn't stop the Beta from being mediocre.

I'd imagine a lot of gamers will know about The Witcher by now and its developers plus Keanu Reeves. Just looking at it from a gameplay standpoint it doesn't seem much of a competition from what I've witnessed so far

@Stragen8 Funny cause I'm usually someone who waits a year or so until the "slim" version of the console comes out (Except with Nintendo). PS5 will be my first Day 1 purchase primarily because of Miles Morales

@carlos82 the witcher was amazing and one of the best rpgs to me but at the same time not everyone who enjoyed the witcher will enjoy cyberpunk as they are two different styles, a traditional rpg with a fantasy setting with hack and slash and creatures vs a cyberpunk era with fps shooting and human/android enemies and vehicles.
This will seperate the witcher fan base so actually the amount of people actually interest in cyberpunk might be lower than we all think

In the wider world, Marvel is undoubtedly bigger, but in the gaming world, CD Projekt Red is one of the big players now.

And I'd argue that the success of Spider-man was also down to the quality of the game. I personally do not see the Avengers reaching the same level of success, despite being available on more platforms, because its quality is already being questioned. Cyberpunk however will carry a lot of positive word of mouth and 'natural' social media promotion. Even if Cyberpunk was half as popular as witcher and avengers was as popular as Spider-man, then the two franchises still end up being equal. So yeah.

@Richnj you have a point but the witcher 3 is on the switch, ps4, xbox one and pc, whilst spiderman was just on ps4

@carlos82 - i don't think any of these lists mean much. it comes down to what each person wants to play. i'm very excited for miles morales, demon souls and a few other games (if they launch this year). but, cyberpunk doesn't interest me enough yet that i'd buy it for full price. i think it looks good and gameplay looks solid - i'm just not "wanting" it. i might try it later on if i find myself wanting something to play. i did that with fallout4 and ended up having a blast with it.

@Richnj - spiderman was only on playstation. witcher was on ALL formats - you think that's a fair sales comparison? if anything, it shows just how amazing and popular spiderman is.

@playstation_king if we're doing that then we'd have to point out that over half of its sales (around 10m) came just from PC alone. And I'm willing to bet most if not all of those players also pick up Cyberpunk.

Still, unless Avengers sells 20m units because it is also a multiplat title, or at least more than Cyberpunk, then just being a Marvel title isn't enough to ensure more popularity in the video game domain.

@eddie429 As above, Witcher 3 sold 10 on PC alone. So that franchise is at least as popular with PC players as Spider-man is with PS4 players.

And just on PS4, franchises like Uncharted, COD, and Red Dead all have more unit sales. Proving that video game franchises can and do become more popular within the video game community than mega franchises from outside the community.

Not that I think Spider-man is a failure or that 10m is bad, just that I think claiming that because Marvel is such a big franchise outside of games it would translate to automatically being more popular than franchises that are obscure outside of the industry, is a bad take.

@Richnj there's a lot of factors to play in, time period it's releases and other games coming out around the same time as I know cyberpunk has assassins creed/watch dogs/fifa/call of duty to contend with whilst avengers has what? , and also the fact kids will want to play a marvel game but doubt they would show interest in cyberpunk.

I would assume initial sales the avengers game will dwarf cyberpunks sales, whilst cyberpunk will gradually increase its sales over the next year

Well now I know the 3080 is $699.

At that range, Just with access to Miles Morales and a new Ratchet the PS5 @$600 beats out what it will cost me to update the living room PC to play on a 4K TV.

It always comes down to the games.

@playstation_king The initial claims were that because Marvel is a massive franchise that that is why Spider-man is more anticipated.

I argued that the size of a franchise doesn't translate perfectly to another media.

Why are we changing arguments now? Why is the argument now "well Avengers will be bigger at launch".

And of course Avengers sales will be bigger at first, it has like 3 months of extra time to sell copies.

I'll tell you what, we can put a pin in this until the launch of the PS5, Spider-man MM, and Cyberpunk, and we can objectively compare total Cyberpunk sales, and PS5 only sales, vs the sales of Avengers and Spider-man MM, and we can do a follow up after a year to see if the Marvel brand is still bigger than Cyberpunk in the gaming sphere.

@Richnj Actually Spiderman has sold over 13 million units and that is as of August 2019, over a year ago.

@Richnj OK so for cyberpunk to be more successful than spiderman ps4 it needs to sell more than 13million just on the ps4 alone. I can confidently say that cyberpunk ps4 sales won't be no where near the spiderman ps4 sales

@eddie429 they are offering 4k 120 Hz performance for around the same price..and they are also launching their cards sooner at September.

Edit: I went back and checked the figures, we have 12.4m on PC, as well as 10.8m on PS4 for the witcher 3. Not touching on xbox and Switch which were fairly low. So I was wrong on both accounts, but right to think that it was a comparable figure when just talking about individual platforms.

@playstation_king Is this a serious argument we're making right now? Limiting the parameters in such a way as to guarantee you can't be wrong? Because I can be confident that Cyberpunk will be infinitely more popular than Spider-man on PS5 because I'm not going to count sales of the PS4 game or the Miles game.

I hope spider-man mm, demons souls, and gt7 will be released on ps5 before new year 😃

No worries, and excuse me for intruding on your conversation with someone else, but personally I don’t think comparing the sales of a smaller spin-off in Miles Morales to Cyberpunk would be quite fair either. I get your argument about the PS4 Spiderman being compared to the PS5 version of Cyberpunk being unfair as well (for console sales reasons).

What seems like the most fair comparison would be when the eventual full sequel Spiderman 2 comes out for PS5.

And this dear readers, Marvel's Avengers being more anticipated than Cyberpunk 2077 is why gamers can't have nice things.

I'm going to buy and enjoy cyberpunk, morales and avengers (hopefully) and want all of them to sell well.

To the original argument about marvel not being as big in the gaming scene, what I was trying to say (and poorly) is that marvel is a bigger name in gaming than cd project red and will always be, there's spiderman games, deadpool games, iron man games, guardians of the galaxy games, marvel ultimate alliance games, lego games, fantastic four, hulk, punisher, capcom and street fighter crossovers, x-men, electra, ghost rider, captain America, thor, heck even Disney infinity, and many mobile games.
Marvel has been in the gaming scene since 1982 on atari, so trust me Marvel is bigger than cd project red in the gaming industry.

@DeepSpace5D It totally would, I actually agree. It's part of my thinking here actually. I expect the Miles game to sell a little less than the first, but still expect Cyberpunk to be a massive game.

My reason for joining in here wasn't to directly compare the two games and prove that the Miles game would sell less, but rather to challenge the notion that Marvel as a brand is just a bigger selling point than a game with less mindshare outside of video games.

I think I just fundamental disagree with Marvel being bigger. At least in principle. The length of time you've been at it, or the amount of games you've produced, doesn't always translate to more popularity. Carlos proposed that for him Cyberpunk was a bigger title. The article and Nielsen stats says it's Spider-man. And what I was trying to do was look at each game individually. Free from preconceived notions of popularity based on outside factors. I took CD Project Red's last game and compared to the last Spider-man game. There are also other factors to this, like the Miles game having a much smaller reach, because it's a launch title, and Cyberpunk has multiple, much more established platforms to get reach. And just based on that kind of information. Stuff that will directly affect sales. I personally expect there to be a lot more of people like Carlos who just want Cyberpunk, and I'd be surprised if, at least in total for all platforms, it didn't sell more. I just don't see these anticipation stats lining up with real world interest.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Well, I plan to get my PS5 with Spidey and Avengers, so I can understand that !

As for Cyberpunk, I'll wait till the real next-gen update shows up to get this masterpiece.

Cyberpunk is the only one that deserves to be there.

Still can't get over the Microsoft and all its money couldn't get Halo finished on time. This shows how organised Sony is as there's a few great AAA games coming in the launch window.

I don't understand why people are trashing this game just because it is shorter. No one said anything about lost legacy being $40 DLC, but now that something like that is a launch title everybody is in an uproar about it. Sometimes I get a migraine over the double standards everyone on the internet has. The people complaining about this game are the ones who want shorter worlds and stories. I do understand people not liking the game because they only showed a teaser trailer and a couple screenshots, that is reasonable.

@I_Like_It I wouldn't pin it on Microsoft, it's 343s job as a company/developer to regulate this. They already had to restart once because of the negative feedback from halo 5, so theyre not in the right place. Microsoft is giving them creative freedom and responsibility over themselves, 343 is just messing it up.

By the way, do we know for sure that the game will contain a remaster of the PS4 Spiderman ? Or is it just a rumor, for the moment ?

2 of the must have ps5 games are from my favourite dev, big shock there.
That and HZD 2 but that's ages away I'd imagine.

@Richnj Witcher 3 has the advantage of being multiplatform, while Spider Man is only on PS4. So in reality, Spider-Man would have sold more if it was multiplat as well. The sales for Spider-Man was 13.2 million last updated.

@GilbertXI They are a 1st party studio. Therefore, it's pinned on them as well. When 343 isn't getting this game out on time, then perhaps MS needs to step in to get someone in there to get things back in order.

But since you're not the first to try to make this argument from the perspective of the PS4 being in a bubble, I have to ask. Why does interest in a game on other platforms not count as actual interest in the game?

@Richnj Regardless of sales on one platform, it still has the advantage of selling more being multiplat. I'm not saying that the sales on PS4 aren't relevant. My point is that the The Wticher 3's in general, are based on more than one platform. Whatever you and others are arguing about I really don't care about, and I'll leave that for others to debate about. Good luck.

@InsertUsername Right, but I was discussing sales as an indicator of interest of a game. In that sense, total sales are pertinent because it gives a real world figure to interest.

But since people wanted to keep reminding me that the Witcher 3 has a reach advantage, I was trying to understand how that's relevant to the argument being made.

Surely, those who are anticipating Spider-man are going to get a PS5. And those who aren't getting a PS5 must not be anticipating the game, as they know they won't have a way to play it. So I'm not sure how focusing on one sub-community within the larger gaming community would give a more accurate measure of interest of upcoming games.

It's obviously not the case, but if hypothetical, every single person who played the Witcher 3 was anticipating Cyberpunk, and every single person who played Spider-man was anticipating, SMMM, then that's 30m people interested in Cyberpunk and 13m people interested in Spider-man. It doesn't matter where those games are played, the interest is generated all the same.

I see you guys are talking about 343i, and well, all the money and time in the world couldn't make that studio run properly. Bonnie Ross and Co have been all over the place since day one. The difference was their mistakes were mostly covered up before and MS always had a way to put a postive spin or sweep it under the rug. I think 343i, after a decade of incompetence and getting away with it, thought Infinite would be the same story. And they stick their mistake front and centre, on show to the whole world, with nothing to hide behind, and it ended up being a mistake they couldn't spin or sweep away.

MS aren't going to step in because it's MS' fault. Bonnie Ross is the studio head of 343i, but also a MS executive. She's had a hand on that wheel this entire time. And MS clearly have no desire to fire her, or reprimand her, for whatever reason.

While I certainly have Avengers as probably my most anticipated game of the the year, it's been a very good year for gaming and thankfully, it's not over yet. Cyberpunk 2077 and Miles Morales are quite high on my list. All of the big games I have purchased lately have lived up to the hype and I think these will too.

This has not been confirmed to be a launch title at any point but people will get mad when they confirm it comes out next summer or whenever.

There is a BIG problem at the moment for game makers and it's if a game doesn't blow you away(graphics wise) even if the 'Gameplay' is fun then the game will get hated on :-/ GOD I hate the internet. And I say all this because I think that is the reason that no one is showing us anything next-gen. Well we did see R&C + GT7 running on a PS5 and they looked AMAZING(to me) but it's not enough for some people. Er it's getting more and more difficult to blow people away I think nowadays. Oh well.

Very excited for MM, the original SM was one of my favourite PS4 games so the chance to play through more of that with a different character/moveset is an easy sell for me. Avengers I'm still a bit torn over - enjoyed bits fo the beta and was bored by other aspects so I'm going to hang back and see how it evolves over time, then maybe pick it up on PS5 when I get one.
