We’ve only seen one trailer, but Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of the most anticipated games of the year. That’s according to research group Nielsen, which ranked the title alongside Marvel’s Avengers and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as one of the top three most wanted titles of 2021. Cyberpunk 2077, which is due out in November, was also mentioned – although it couldn’t outpace the aforementioned.
The company ranks games based on a relatively complex methodology, which takes into account awareness, interest, consumer rating, urgency, and more. It then calculates a score and compares it to other upcoming releases in order to determine their positioning. The problem is that Sony’s secrecy with regards to the PlayStation 5’s launch date is affecting the algorithm, although titles like Demon’s Souls and Gran Turismo 7 would also make the most anticipated list – assuming they deploy this year.
To be honest, we wouldn’t read too much into this, but it’s an interesting data point that proves Sony should have a particularly strong end to the year. It has marketing rights for both Marvel’s Avengers and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, while Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an outright PS5 exclusive. Hopefully we’ll see more of the latter game soon, because we can’t imagine the title’s going to launch this Holiday 2020 without any further gameplay footage.
