Re: Spider-Man PS5, PS4 Games Sell a Spider-Sense Tingling 33 Million Copies

ryanburnsred

God of War: a 4 year old game being sold for near full price when new sold 970K copies on PC. Meanwhile you can get a PS4 copy for $20 on the PS store and even less for a disc at retail. Mind boggling how some in here are "shocked" by the "low" numbers. Obviously Sony are happy that their overpriced old ports are selling over half a million copies on a system where one can obtain these games free of cost through a simple Google search.

Also if you check SteamDB, God of War has yet to actually go on sale since being released in January. So those 970K copies are all at the $50 price tag in the span of 2 MONTHS (sales figures linked above are as of March 2022). You guys are picking the wrong thing to be shocked about imo

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Saw a Significant Sales Spike Thanks to PS5 Version

ryanburnsred

I played 100 hours of this game before giving up last year. Honestly I want to get back into it but every time I think about booting it up I just remember how shallow it felt, and I know it will never be the RPG that was showcased in 2018. It's cool people like it now..but it's clear they won't spend 4 more years to pull off a No Man's Sky. And like Anthem, this was just another disappointment with huge wasted potential

Re: Rumour: PS5 Exclusive Returnal Likely Heading to PC Soon

ryanburnsred

@Titntin when I was younger I definitely loved tweaking and tinkering on my PC, but as I get older I find myself preferring to do that kind of stuff on my car instead lol

So I've gotten pretty lazy when it comes to doing that stuff on PC, but even then I rarely do it at all these days. The only tweaking and tinkering I do now is with mods, and I'm sure you know how that goes when you put a new mod in and the game stops working and you spend hours troubleshooting..I'm getting tired of that too but sometimes I just can't help myself - at least for the moment. You're right the OS doesn't leave you alone, but that's a good thing because it updates a lot of stuff for you automatically. The only drivers I manually download and install now are graphics drivers, and that's because I don't always want the latest one and don't care to have GeForce Experience installed on my system. PC gaming is really streamlined compared to 10 years ago - never mind 20 years ago back in 2002 (crazy how time flies). I get where you're coming from though, and I know it all comes down to personal preference. I wasn't trying to do a platform war or anything like that but just letting you know that you can absolutely get a console-like experience on PC if you desire. Good talking with you. I love nerding out with other gamers every now and then

Re: Rumour: PS5 Exclusive Returnal Likely Heading to PC Soon

@Titntin "Sit on the sofa, press a button and be playing a perfectly optomised game in less than a minute is a key console win, and I take it every time."

If what you say is true about your PC then you can brute force just about any game that's out right now and anything else for the next 5+ years - especially with more games incorporating DLSS and FSR. As for the part I quoted, Steam Big Picture & Remote Play does a real good job at that already, and with a 3090 rig you can max out anything out right now with or without upscaling. The lines between the convenience of a console and PC have blurred thanks a lot to Valve's efforts.

Unless you have a really slow home network, I can't see how what you said is a key console win. I love my PS4 and PS3, PS2, PS1 before it, but console haven't really had many key wins for a couple gens now, apart from the price to performance ratio of course. And yes, console games crash and have bugs too. Never had a game crash on a PS2 but have since the PS3 onward

Re: Rumour: New Mafia Game in Development, Is a Prequel to the Trilogy

ryanburnsred

@theheadofabroom For me it seems Paulie went from a goofy, easy-going guy (kinda like the class clown) in the original to a sociopath that hates Ralphie because of his disability. In the original Paulie makes one remark early in the game that Ralphie is an idiot but has a way with cars. He doesn't show any animosity towards Ralphie and treats him as a friend while in the remake there's clear animosity and hatred between the two, and it seems to me it stems from a very ignorant and hateful view from the new Paulie which goes completely against his entire character in the original.

Don Salieri went from the old wise Italian grandfather figure to an Italian-American uncle that's hopped up on way too much caffeine. To me the original personalities are the ones that are more fleshed out, and had far better connections to each other than the remake where it seems more like a clash of personalities. I already explained Paulie and Ralphie, but Tommy and Paulie also don't seem as close of friends as they were in the original because Paulie went from a easy-going guy that looks out and cares for everybody in the family to a straight up sociopathic jerk (keeping it PG13 for the mods).

All in all the remake is a sharp tonal shift from the original and imo not for the better. But I can appreciate some of the changes that were made to flesh out some of the missions and especially the changes done to the city. Now that I think about it if I wasn't a huge fan of the original I would probably love the remake like everyone else, unfortunately they made too many changes to things I feel like shouldn't have been touched. Sorry for writing a mini essay to you, I just really love Mafia lol

Re: Rumour: New Mafia Game in Development, Is a Prequel to the Trilogy

ryanburnsred

Sad to see so many people love the awful remake that just completely changed [destroyed] the personalities of Paulie, Don Salieri, Ralphie, and Vincenzo to name a few, and the little details in gameplay from the 2002 release that seem impossible for them to recreate almost 20 years later. At least they kept most of the original story intact, but couldn't recapture the identity and atmosphere of the original. Honestly felt like I was playing the Walmart version of Mafia instead of the real thing.

I'm not mad, just disappointed. Perhaps a prequel is what I need to come around to the new direction the series has taken.

Re: Square Enix Retains Just Cause, Life Is Strange, Outriders IPs

ryanburnsred

I'll post the unpopular opinion that JC3 is the best of the series, even better than JC2 in both story and gameplay. The DLC is also the best when it comes to the bavarium wingsuit and the OP weapons that turn Rico into a walking WMD. JC4 is an abomination though. Perhaps Avalanche fell into the same trap Saints Row did and made a game too fun and over-the-top to follow up. Time for a reboot.

Re: PS3 Emulation Allegedly in Production for PS5

ryanburnsred

@Deadlyblack I wouldn't exactly call it terrible when it produced amazing visuals of the likes of TLoU, Uncharted 3, and Beyond Two Souls. Those visuals coming from 2006 hardware is impressive even today, at least it is to me.

Yeah lots of devs complained about it being hard to work with, but look at what it was capable of in the end. It was terrible alright...terribly underrated

Re: New Witcher Game Announced, Developed on Unreal Engine 5

ryanburnsred

Definitely an interesting choice to go with UE5 this time around. Seeing as we haven't seen any games that uses this engine yet I can't form an opinion on this right now, but TW3 downgrade debacle followed by the CP2077 tragedy makes me think the REDengine isn't doing so great when it comes to multiplatform development.

Either way this is exciting news, but they're not getting another pre order out of me 🙂

Re: Sony Acquires Haven Studios, the New Developer Led By Jade Raymond

ryanburnsred

A lot of comments mentioning the game but I think Sony was after the technology behind the game. I'm thinking the game engine or maybe some other technology that could be of great benefit to Sony and their studios going forward. That was the case with Sony's recent acquisitions of Bungie and Nixxes, so I'm imagining it's close to the same here.

Honestly I don't think Sony did it because the studio was "cheap" since they haven't shipped a game yet. I mean they splurged $3.6 billion on Bungie. They must've really wanted the infrastructure or whatever being built for this game. I just hope they put it, and the studio to good use.. coming from a paying customer standpoint.

Re: GTA 6 Officially Confirmed, Development Is 'Well Underway'

ryanburnsred

The oversaturation of GTA V has killed my excitement for this announcement. That's the downside of them milking it for almost a decade. I would rather they work on something new.. either resurrect an old IP or work on a new one, but this will sell millions. Perhaps billions, so who am I to speak up

Re: PS Plus Promotional Language Changes, Fuelling More Sony Subscription Rumours

ryanburnsred

@OneWingedAngel I certainly agree it depends how you look at it. For me I can't really say the podcasts that I get access to with Spotify Premium are a free bonus. They are a part of the service regardless of what I mainly use it for; i'm still paying for them. I don't think Sony is wrong with the new wording. In fact I think it's the closest they can legally get without outright saying free, but as I said it kinda feeds into that misconception. If you consider them free then more power to you, my friend. I consider free to actually be free like the Epic Games Store giveaways or Play at Home initiative Sony did last year

Re: God of War PC Scales Steam Sales Charts After Glowing Reviews

ryanburnsred

The hate here is really sad. Doubt any of you complain when long time PC franchises or new/popular PC games make their way over to your favorite platform. Even though you guys are a small vocal minority, i find it pretty embarrassing for both Sony and Push Square to have these kind of comments coming from "fans"

I hope my comment isn't breaking any community rules, but I think it's pretty mild compared to many of the comments on this article alone. Such a shame.

Re: The ESRB Rates Action RPG The Ascent for PS5, PS4

ryanburnsred

It took me awhile to get into it but once I got into the combat I was having a decently good time despite the technical issues. The graphics are great for UE4 and the ray tracing added a great deal to the ambience of the cyberpunk setting. Unfortunately it launched in a rough state that somehow got worse through patches on the PC version and i had to put it down. If they stopped patching because they were busy porting then I don't think these guys will be seeing anymore of my hard earned money

Re: PSVR2 Fans Are Desperate for Half-Life: Alyx to Come to PS5

ryanburnsred

@Medic_Alert they don't just let Steam exist. They've invested and improved upon it so much over the years that it has evolved into more than a simple digital storefront for games. This is what separates Steam from say.. the Epic Games Store. They've also poured money into other ventures like Linux and VR. They don't just sit around and collect money from Steam sales. They're always making moves

Re: PS Plus Not Required in Free Online Multiplayer Weekend for PS5, PS4 Games

ryanburnsred

@danlk1ng you're gonna need a wet floor sign for your comment because I fell squarely into it lol All of my PS4 games are single player focused as I out right refuse to pay for multi-player access and I don't care for the game rentals. This would be a good time to experience Bloodborne online but it's not worth planning my weekend around it, so chances are high I'll miss out and I'll be fine with that

Re: It's Been One Year Since the Release of Cyberpunk 2077

ryanburnsred

Bugs, glitches, and performance can always be fixed through updates. What can't and most likely won't be fixed are the inconsistencies in the writing and core gameplay elements like the one dimensional quests.

I always get the urge to jump back in, but then I remember all the subsurface problems this game has that will only be fixed with a sequel or reboot. Biggest waste of potential since Anthem

Re: CDPR Still Confident It Can Turn Cyberpunk 2077 Around

ryanburnsred

They can fix all the bugs and flesh out the gameplay, but I doubt it will ever come close to what was showcased at E3 2018. Good on them for still working on it though. If it was Bioware they'd have let it rot for 6 months then announce no more updates would be released coughanthemcough

Re: PS4 Sales Have Dropped Off Enormously Since PS5's Release

ryanburnsred

For some reason they're kinda hard to find at decent prices in my area. They're holding their value well relative to their MSRP. Like finding a base model used (not slim or pro) under $200 is a steal. Pro models are damn near MSRP used. Must be since scalpers are buying up PS5s lots of people are holding onto their PS4s.

I mean we're talking about an 8 year old console here that's the 4th best selling console of all time. You could've gotten a new PS3 at the end of its life cycle for less than what these used PS4s are going for

Edit: lots of folks above saying the PS4 is second best selling, but only by ignoring the Nintendo DS and Gameboy families. If we're going by one singular system then absolutely it is the second best selling of all time which makes the current situation that much worse
