@mrtennis1990 you should be worried about an all DRM future. Not too long ago both physical and digital copies of GT7 were unplayable because of its reliance on online servers. That's not a physical vs digital problem.
@Deadlyblack I wouldn't exactly call it terrible when it produced amazing visuals of the likes of TLoU, Uncharted 3, and Beyond Two Souls. Those visuals coming from 2006 hardware is impressive even today, at least it is to me.
Yeah lots of devs complained about it being hard to work with, but look at what it was capable of in the end. It was terrible alright...terribly underrated
@Resi32 I hope not. Needing to pay a subscription to play discs I already own isn't it. Microsoft let's you do it for free even though it doesn't work on every Xbox game. Sony locking that behind a paywall wouldn't be a good look
Definitely an interesting choice to go with UE5 this time around. Seeing as we haven't seen any games that uses this engine yet I can't form an opinion on this right now, but TW3 downgrade debacle followed by the CP2077 tragedy makes me think the REDengine isn't doing so great when it comes to multiplatform development.
Either way this is exciting news, but they're not getting another pre order out of me 🙂
A lot of comments mentioning the game but I think Sony was after the technology behind the game. I'm thinking the game engine or maybe some other technology that could be of great benefit to Sony and their studios going forward. That was the case with Sony's recent acquisitions of Bungie and Nixxes, so I'm imagining it's close to the same here.
Honestly I don't think Sony did it because the studio was "cheap" since they haven't shipped a game yet. I mean they splurged $3.6 billion on Bungie. They must've really wanted the infrastructure or whatever being built for this game. I just hope they put it, and the studio to good use.. coming from a paying customer standpoint.
@Royalblues I think a lot of them are still hurt about Bethesda, despite saying they never liked Bethesda games anyway. Now that I think about it, I remember back in the PS3 era there was a sentiment of playing where the games are. I wonder what happened to that
The oversaturation of GTA V has killed my excitement for this announcement. That's the downside of them milking it for almost a decade. I would rather they work on something new.. either resurrect an old IP or work on a new one, but this will sell millions. Perhaps billions, so who am I to speak up
Imagine the sales this would generate if it was the actual game at the $50 price Sony has been charging for ports. I wonder what the real reason is for Sony letting it rot on PS4 all these years
@OneWingedAngel I certainly agree it depends how you look at it. For me I can't really say the podcasts that I get access to with Spotify Premium are a free bonus. They are a part of the service regardless of what I mainly use it for; i'm still paying for them. I don't think Sony is wrong with the new wording. In fact I think it's the closest they can legally get without outright saying free, but as I said it kinda feeds into that misconception. If you consider them free then more power to you, my friend. I consider free to actually be free like the Epic Games Store giveaways or Play at Home initiative Sony did last year
The hate here is really sad. Doubt any of you complain when long time PC franchises or new/popular PC games make their way over to your favorite platform. Even though you guys are a small vocal minority, i find it pretty embarrassing for both Sony and Push Square to have these kind of comments coming from "fans"
I hope my comment isn't breaking any community rules, but I think it's pretty mild compared to many of the comments on this article alone. Such a shame.
It took me awhile to get into it but once I got into the combat I was having a decently good time despite the technical issues. The graphics are great for UE4 and the ray tracing added a great deal to the ambience of the cyberpunk setting. Unfortunately it launched in a rough state that somehow got worse through patches on the PC version and i had to put it down. If they stopped patching because they were busy porting then I don't think these guys will be seeing anymore of my hard earned money
@Medic_Alert they don't just let Steam exist. They've invested and improved upon it so much over the years that it has evolved into more than a simple digital storefront for games. This is what separates Steam from say.. the Epic Games Store. They've also poured money into other ventures like Linux and VR. They don't just sit around and collect money from Steam sales. They're always making moves
I bought the first game on sale years ago and went in with low expectations; now I have astronomically high expectations for the sequel. If it's at least more of the same, I'll be quite happy
@danlk1ng you're gonna need a wet floor sign for your comment because I fell squarely into it lol All of my PS4 games are single player focused as I out right refuse to pay for multi-player access and I don't care for the game rentals. This would be a good time to experience Bloodborne online but it's not worth planning my weekend around it, so chances are high I'll miss out and I'll be fine with that
Bugs, glitches, and performance can always be fixed through updates. What can't and most likely won't be fixed are the inconsistencies in the writing and core gameplay elements like the one dimensional quests.
I always get the urge to jump back in, but then I remember all the subsurface problems this game has that will only be fixed with a sequel or reboot. Biggest waste of potential since Anthem
I feel like when the notes are just, "This system software update improves system performance." It's pretty much patching exploits at this point to prevent another flourishing PS3/Vita/PSP homebrew scene
They can fix all the bugs and flesh out the gameplay, but I doubt it will ever come close to what was showcased at E3 2018. Good on them for still working on it though. If it was Bioware they'd have let it rot for 6 months then announce no more updates would be released coughanthemcough
@Juanalf it absolutely can do that. It won't ship with a dock but they'll be made available sometime after the system releases. It'll be a separate purchase for those that want it.
On that note, unlike the Switch you won't get a bump in performance when docked
For some reason they're kinda hard to find at decent prices in my area. They're holding their value well relative to their MSRP. Like finding a base model used (not slim or pro) under $200 is a steal. Pro models are damn near MSRP used. Must be since scalpers are buying up PS5s lots of people are holding onto their PS4s.
I mean we're talking about an 8 year old console here that's the 4th best selling console of all time. You could've gotten a new PS3 at the end of its life cycle for less than what these used PS4s are going for
Edit: lots of folks above saying the PS4 is second best selling, but only by ignoring the Nintendo DS and Gameboy families. If we're going by one singular system then absolutely it is the second best selling of all time which makes the current situation that much worse
I think it's really exciting that Sony is moving in this direction. It would've been unheard of in the PS2 era, even borderline blasphemous. So growing up in that era and seeing this all feels so surreal to me. I hope Sony's PC endeavors continue to work out for them, and I'm proud to do my part when I can because at the end of the day it just means more amazing games for everybody. Hopefully the vocal minority stays the minority
Re-reading the PS Blog about this it seems this will be more of the same with a new coat of paint over already 4 layers of old paint. I love the original series but I don't think this one is gonna be for me just like the Mafia Remake. I'll be constantly reminded of all the things the old game(s) did better while playing the new one
Picking Primal was an easy choice for me. It was both unique and immersive, although not as immersive as FC2, of the FC3 iterations it's the one I enjoyed the most by a large margin
Seeing as they're all basically variations of FC3, I'm done paying $60 for these expansion packs. I loved Primal though, it was the only one that felt different; bows and spears instead guns and rocket launchers. It was better than people gave it credit for
@BoldAndBrash yeah I don't really care much about popular opinion. Uncharted 2 was an improvement from the first game but was more of the same and became a tedious repetitive predictable job by the 5th chapter. Beautiful set pieces though. I stand by my original comment
Last I checked there were still players in the original Bad Company and there are still official DICE servers in BF3. I'm sure if Sony hadn't shut down all, if not the majority of their first party MP servers there would still be players on games like Killzone and Resistance.
Also not on PS3 but, RIP Drive Club. Gone but not forgotten
I'm actually hoping this partnership somehow leads to the continuation of Deus Ex rather than TR. I know it's a stretch but crazier things have happened!
I got it on Steam and I like it quite a bit but I guess I'm one of the few on here that actually liked Dishonored. I also liked Prey and have to say that Deathloop shares very little, if anything with Prey, except for how there's no "right" way to get to and complete an objective (which I absoluteIy love btw). I think Deathloop is a great send off from Arkane as their last Playstation release
This oversaturation of GTA 5 is making me less interested in any future GTA. At this point I'd rather they release something we haven't seen in awhile like say, Bully, Midnight Club, and anybody remember Agent? Or how about a Max Payne reboot? Just give me something, anything, that doesn't start with Grand and ends with Auto
I don't have a PS5 but I sure would love a new Infamous for when I eventually get one. I've played the original two games so much I could do without a remastered collection, personally. I think lots of folks getting rid of their PS3s was a big mistake

@UltimateOtaku91 they got away with adding smartphone-like microtransactions in full priced games. It's only a matter of time

Did they add ray tracing to this version?

@awp69 I have the same thoughts and have brought it up before. It's weird and really unnecessary
Re: Horizon Forbidden West's PS5, PS4 Visual Issues a High Priority, Patch Incoming ASAP
@XOF yes that's what pop in is. Most likely has to do with the PS4's use of a hard drive as opposed to an SSD
