Re: Talking Point: Will PlayStation's Mobile Push Be a Success or a Flop?

nyr2k2

To the question of "how do I feel," for me it's more like "I think it's a good strategy for Sony but I personally have no interest in the games." I'm sure they'll make money off the games themselves, and they'll probably see some additional revenue from people checking out the mainline Horizon and Ratchet games, so that's all good.

I won't play them, and have no interest, but I think it's a good thing in general.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate State of Play for November 2025?

nyr2k2

For me, this was Dragon Quest, Ocotopath which I was already well aware of (although excited for the demo) and...Katamari, maybe? Out of nostalgia? I guess the BlazBlue game looked interesting. The rest...not for me.

I do recognize Elden Ring, Marvel, Gran Turismo, that stuff may be exciting for some people. But for me this one felt like a huge waste of time.

Re: Hands On: PS Portal Is a Whole New Device with Cloud Streaming Update

nyr2k2

For me, the PS5 itself is set up down in the basement/"man cave" area (I hate that term), but I can sit on the main level and play while I'm watching TV or at night when I don't feel like going downstairs, I can take it upstairs and play in bed while my wife watches stupid Netflix shows, etc. I took it on vacation this summer and it worked surprisingly well. I wouldn't try to play, like, an online fighting game or anything, but I was playing RPGs and it was perfect. I enjoy that it feels like a normal controller and has a lot of the same features, and I'm always a sucker for the "official" stuff. Honestly I thought it sounded lame when it came out but it's probably the best video game accessory I have purchased since the SNES multi-tap, LOL.

Re: Poll: Is PS Portal the Biggest Surprise Hit of the PS5 Generation?

nyr2k2

I love my portal. My PS5 playtime increased dramatically when I got it. I have an awesome setup in my basement but now, I play most of the time from my living room while having a sports game or something on in the background. It's great for playing "retro" titles and other things conducive to a smaller screen. I'll still go play something like E33 in the basement on the big TV, but otherwise I'm content to play a majority on the Portal.

Re: Forgotten PS5, PC Game Lost Soul Aside Still Being Patched and Optimised

nyr2k2

@Balie3000 the original development was started by a guy, Yang Bing, when he was in college over a decade ago. Sony first started poking around and providing support just a couple years after and from then it was Yang Bing and a full-fledged studio (albeit a smaller one). And then a couple years ago Sony stepped in and provided their own staff to help push the project across the line because it still wasn't otherwise close to completion.

All that is to say while Yang Bing did a phenomenal job getting this up and running at the outset, verrrry little of what you see in the finished product was a result of his solo work.

Re: New Behind-the-Scenes Video Will Build Your Hype for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

nyr2k2

Lego Horizon, I just played that recently. I'm a fan of the source material and had needed a quick game to play. It was fine, it looked nice for a Lego game. The mechanics were of course very simple. It was an enjoyable 10 hours or whatever although it got pretty repetitive pretty quickly, as all the levels followed exactly the same structure. For like $20 or maybe $30 bucks it's a cute diversion but I wouldn't pay more than that. I assume this would be more of the same.

Re: Stellar Blade Tease Appears to Hint at New Horror DLC

nyr2k2

@ButWhy they have released a whole bunch of cosmetics that were completely free. The Nier DLC cost money, but that was kind of to be expected given it's a collab with an IP they don't own (and owned by SE at that). The Nikke DLC was their own IP but that at least contained another boss battle and some side quests as well.

Honestly this game and dev has been fantastic in terms of providing free content.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Hollow Knight: Silksong?

nyr2k2

There are only a handful of games I'd ever rate 10/10. For me that's going to be something like Super Mario World, FF7, Legend of Zelda, MGS, maybe GoldenEye for what it did for multiplayer... I know there are others, I would just need to think for a minute.

Those are all games I'll remember forever, that I could play every day and not get tired of, real masterpieces. They're games that I feel like I could play through just in my head and I won't ever forget them.

Silksong is a very good game but I find some of the enemy designs and also the level designs to be cheap and frustrating. Otherwise it's great. Maybe an 8 for me. Not a 10 though--like I don't think I'll play it again or remember much about it in a few years.

Re: Action Game Lost Soul Aside Improves with New PS5, PC Patch

nyr2k2

@PuppetMaster Right and anything short of that, and you have the same basic game, which is going to produce the same basic review scores.

This is an incremental improvement which is very welcome but not something that moves the needle or (IMO) would justify a new score. The only time I think reviewers should go back and issue a new score is when you have something like No Man's Sky, as Cyberpunk, or something else that was either completely unplayable or utter garbage to start, that was then dramatically improved. I don't think this studio is capable of that kind of an overhaul so this game is going to be remembered for its first impression.

Re: Action Game Lost Soul Aside Improves with New PS5, PC Patch

nyr2k2

@PuppetMaster
I wouldn't. It's a nice little update that definitely tightened up the project, but not to any significant degree. Like I had this game as a 6 personally, with the updates they've released to far it's maybe a 6.5 for me now? Nothing major, I still have a lot of performance issues, the story issues persist, the lack of depth in anything outside of combat, etc. To really move the needle they'll need a feature update that overhauls some basic systems.

Re: PSVR2 Gets Enormous Price Reduction Starting March 2025

nyr2k2

It seems like a cool but under-supported peripheral. Problem for me is I just don't see the appeal of VR. Until there's like true "you're in the Matrix" ***** which there probably never will be, it's just not something I'm interested in. I've tried the PSVR2 with Call of the Mountain and it was interesting, but felt like a gimmick throughout.

I can appreciate that companies keep taking swings at this because we'll never get a truly immersive experience if they don't, but right now, it all feels like a concept piece.

Re: Fans Are Buying Fewer Boxed Video Games Than Ever in the US

nyr2k2

The last game I bought a physical copy of was, I believe, NHL 23. There was a reason why but I can't remember what it was. Otherwise I had Sackboy and Demon's Souls in boxes but that's because they came with the PS5 bundle I bought. Spiderman, too, I think.

For me the digital games are just easier. I like having it all there on the system and not having to swap discs. I understand the digital stuff is not guaranteed to be "mine" forever, but I'm okay with that. I usually move on each generation, and my saves are there in the cloud.

Re: Would You Pay $100 for GTA 6?

nyr2k2

I mean I remember paying $70 USD for some SNES games in the early 90s which is like, what, $140 now? I wouldn't pay $100 for GTA6 because I just don't want it, but the idea isn't crazy. I'm honestly surprised games haven't really increased in price more than they have.

Re: Godfall Team Counterplay Games Has Seemingly Shut Down

nyr2k2

Man that game was so boring. I started playing and was like, oh this could be cool. But the combat system was needlessly cluttered, and it was just the same thing over and over and over again. What a disappointment. Still sorry for those affected by this, though.

Re: Eve Is a Festive Firecracker in Stellar Blade PS5's Surprise Xmas Update

nyr2k2

@Dalamar if you beat the final boss without dying (as in completely; it's okay to use a WB pump), once you make it back to the credits, if you choose continue it will take you back to the last camp before you made your choice re: Adam. So you can go in, make one choice, kick his ass, hit continue, make the other choice, and get two endings without scumming. I did the save scumming myself because I didn't know about this.

Re: Astro Bot Gains Free Festive DLC Level on PS5, New Special Bots to Collect

nyr2k2

@yazzika not at all. Depending on how fast you complete each level you can unlock one or two bots. The time to unlock one is like, just walk and safely jump from one end to the other. Obscenely easy. The second bot, it make take you once or twice completing the level, but if you're even moderately respectable you should have no problem.

The monkey/climbing level was a little difficult but that's because the mechanic itself doesn't work that well. Turning off motion controls, it too becomes a breeze.
