The nyr2k2 that grew up playing games in the 80s and 90s hates that these gacha games are a thing and refuses to even consider them. LOL. But the 2025 version of nyr2k2 acknowledges they're just part of the gaming scene now, and hope everyone who plays, enjoys.
@Dalamar if you beat the final boss without dying (as in completely; it's okay to use a WB pump), once you make it back to the credits, if you choose continue it will take you back to the last camp before you made your choice re: Adam. So you can go in, make one choice, kick his ass, hit continue, make the other choice, and get two endings without scumming. I did the save scumming myself because I didn't know about this.
Wukong was a good but not great game boosted by the cultural pride of the Chinese gamer. And they should be proud, and the game should have been and rightfully was recognized. But to act as if it's some 10/10 masterpiece deserving of GOTY is an absolute joke.
@yazzika not at all. Depending on how fast you complete each level you can unlock one or two bots. The time to unlock one is like, just walk and safely jump from one end to the other. Obscenely easy. The second bot, it make take you once or twice completing the level, but if you're even moderately respectable you should have no problem.
The monkey/climbing level was a little difficult but that's because the mechanic itself doesn't work that well. Turning off motion controls, it too becomes a breeze.
I gave up on this game after about 6 hours. The whole time it felt like you could be creative in how you solved puzzles but it quickly became clear there was always only one way, using the same handful of mechanics each time.
Three games I would never play in a million years, a DLC, and Wukong which I thought was fine but not special. I understand the Chinese influence but still, this is why I game less than I used to. Now more than ever I have to look for indy games and smaller releases, which isn't always easy on the PS5.
I don't mind when the platinum trophies include doing some very difficult things; that's fine and IMO the spirit of the platinum. What I hate is when you're forced to play a long game multiple times, or collect literally every single thing in the game including stuff that's missable (again, making you play again if you miss it). Challenging, yes. Tedious, no. That's the way for me.
This game will continue to stagnate until they're able to move it off of the PS4 and Series S. The different modes are nice and all but the engine sucks. It's looked the same for 5 years.
I played this game and for the first couple hours, I loved it. I got bored of it pretty quickly thereafter. Some of this sounds interesting to me although I don't know if it would be enough to really grab me.
In the US two days ago (after reading this article), I swapped 2500 points for $10. I had like 2100 left so I bought a game and then swapped for another $10. Felt like I needed to use it now.
I finally learned with NHL 23 that I needed to stop wasting my money on this game until they really rebuilt it. Not to say it's bad, it's just not worth the upgrade to play content that 90% the same.
I get this is "general knowledge" because it covers a wide swath of the PS universe and isn't focused on any specific aspect of it, but these questions are ...not generally known, LOL. Like a lot of this stuff, there's no real reason to expect even a pretty hardcore gamer to know. Ah well.
On the character art, I looked back and forth several times and didn't see the difference. Clear as day once I read the description, but they fooled me initially by making the items flesh colored.
What is this about Type A and Type B? You've been able to choose between "male" and "female" characters in games released in the US forever. Not like M or AO games, either...seems like all ratings. When did that change? I personally don't think it matters, but I am a bit surprised that it's evidently a thing.
I think he's oversimplifying things, but his point is generally accurate. Configuring a PC for gaming (or playing a specific game) can be challenging for someone who isn't familiar with the process. The PS5 has some unintuitive functions, but those are correctable issues with the UI more than anything, and it's still basically true that with a console you plug it in, put in the game, and play.
I'm sure they'll move a ton of these, but not to me. That's too much for incremental improvements. I don't mind buying a new system every 6 or 7 years or whatever, but this feels like I'm back to being a PC gamer where I have to spend hundreds on new components every year or two. Not interested.
I played the SNES-era Mana games and whatever the one was that came out on the PlayStation. Legend? I still consider Secret of Mana to be one of the best games I've ever played.
This one just looks kind of "meh" and the reviews I've seen seem to back up that impression. Maybe of it goes on sale I'll check it out, otherwise it's probably a pass.
6 or 7. Level design is weak especially with the invisible walls. The combat can be really fun but is also unbalanced. The graphics issues don't bother me too much but they're definitely noticeable. It's a fun game but certainly not some masterpiece.
@Fishmasterflex96 I get it, there's enormous revenue to be had in the live market space. I'm just really concerned with what I've seen so far that Sony has no idea how to navigate here. They're going to need to do a lot more than derivative clones of things that are being done elsewhere. Particularly given the skepticism of their player base (those just on consoles, not those who also have PCs). Concord was never going to be for me anyway, but I surely wasn't rooting against it. Just seemed like it's failure was evident from a mile away.
Stick with your bread and butter, Sony. You're not going to do well enough in the live service space to justify the cost of developing and marketing this crap.
As someone who grew up playing games in the 80s, it's wild to me that gacha games not only exist but absolutely thrive. Not a knock on them--clearly not for me but I understand there's a lot of appeal--I just never would have fathomed that gacha would become such a big part of gaming.
I remember playing Wanderers from Ys on the SNES. It was very different than the RPGs I was accustomed to. When I played Oath of Felghana on the PSP decades later I had no idea it was a remake. I'm amazed at how this series is still kicking around. This one looks like it actually has some interesting mechanics--I may give it a go.
The NHL series is quite popular in the US and Canada and is particularly relevant given the playoffs just wrapped up. I haven't seen sales figures but I imagine it also has a market in central, northern, and eastern Europe which is home to countries that play the sport well.
@Nappy fair enough, although I'm not sure why a developer choosing to add in yellow paint to make things more straightforward is "forced" because they think we're "morons," but intentionally difficult game design is ***** art. LOL. Whatever, though. Enjoy what you enjoy.
@Nepp67 I don't know, I don't mind the yellow paint, LOL. It's certainly not because I'm an idiot. If you design the game really well, sure, you don't need it. I didn't need it in Horizon, for example. Stellar Blade, which I just beat again (on hard, FWIW)? Everything is completely indistinguishable, without the yellow you'd literally have no idea where to jump. Even then, accessibility...let me turn it on or off. I'm all about options.
I saw the article where Miyazaki said ER was very hard for a reason and to compromise would detract from the experience. I understand and respect that. While I do think accessibility would be nice, of they think it diminishes the game, that's fair.
I like a challenge, but usually moreso through clever design and interesting game mechanics. Not so much from having enemies that are damage sponges or who have a half-dozen one-hit kill moves. I only get to play a handful of hours per week, so I want to feel like I'm making real progress.
@Nepp67 there's nothing particularly hard to understand about it and I think review bombing a difficult game because it's difficult is stupid. I'm more lamenting the fact that it seems more and more games are taking the Soulsborne or Soulslite approach and I'm not sure it's a trend I like. I do enjoy a game like Horizon that isn't as punishing (although on Ultra Hard it gets difficult), and it's why I'm looking forward to something like Astro Bot that looks fun just by being fun. I can only play 4-5 hours per week so I do enjoy the more "accessible" games mixed in with the more difficult, but it feels like things are skewing towards the latter.
This stuff always turned me off to the Soulsborne genre. Games back in the day were super hard because they were short and needed to keep people engaged or simply due to poor design. Now games are punishingly hard...for fun? I like a challenge, but sometimes now, it's too much.
It looks...okay? I mean the graphics and atmosphere seem phenomenal, but the gameplay itself was bland as *****. They probably should have shown a mid-game mission with more interesting skills and spells. Graphics aside this looked like a generic phone game.
I remember being young and reading the first EGM and GamePro that came out after E3. There were sooo many games, and everything seemed so cool. The whole production looked absolutely amazing, and were talking by 90s tech standards. I always dreamed of going to one. Too bad that whole thing fell apart the way it did.
I heard Ed Boon say "jibs" probably 25 years ago and that's been it since then. When you realize it's short for giblets, it's so logical. Have others been saying it with the hard G?
It's a very good game. I'd like to see less large open areas in the sequel and more focus on the linear areas. Getting through the Wastelands only to have to do basically the same thing in the Great Desert was a chore, especially for 100% collectors like myself. Eidos 9 was a great example of how the levels should be built.
Also, please, God, fix the platforming controls which were wonky as all hell.
The first one was entertaining IMO but objectively stupid. Even if they just repeat that, I'd still watch it. I mean just look at the MK lore, it's not A+ storytelling. I don't expect much else from the movies.
I bought the bundle with Remake a long time ago when that was a thing. In retrospect having played Rebirth now, I wouldn't have bought it. I acknowledge it's a very good game, but not really for me. Too much fluff with the collection and mini games. Felt like it was jammed full of stuff just for the sake of having stuff. This is the problem with trying to stretch one game into three full games.
@GamingFan4Lyf I have no doubt there are people who are upset about the possible change on "principle," but most of what I see on Reddit, Discord, and Twitter is just horny dudes bring pissed because they're missing out on 50 pixels of an ass cheek or whatever.
