I don't know, most of the comments I've seen all over the internet seem to be "It's stupid that Sony doesn't have a flagship IP game on their own system," but not "We want it on the PS5." Like people think it's strange to not have it on the PS5 (I don't think so personally) but they don't necessarily want it on the PS5.

If Guerrillas online Horizon game is 1-2 years away then it makes sense not to put this onto PS5.

Get AI to do it for you if it’s so helpful.

Maybe Sony wants there to be a clear differentiation between their new mobile games and their console games. And maybe Guerilla just wants to properly showcase their own Online console version, since its still their IP. I dunno, it’s all a bit weird.

I am curious though, i actually think online has a lot of potential for the Horizon IP, so i’m excited to hear more

There’s really not a reason it couldn’t. They’ve released games on consoles. I know that’s not their biggest market but there are some who just want to play games on console.

But in other words. They are working on an online Horizon game themselves and that’s the only thing I can see why they wouldn’t release it on PS5.
I hope what they’re doing is going to suck lol.

The intent of this statement is to imply it was guerilla’s decision to eschew the PS5, I think there can be very little doubt of that.

I'm sure Sony wants to be absolutely positively crystal clear that this is not the next Horizon game in the mainline series. Let's face it, many games made for mobile first aren't as good on a console and a big screen. There are exceptions (Genshin Impact may be one), but even those exceptions often aren't the kind of visual and play experience we expect from the next mainline Horizon game.

If it releases on the PS5 day one, it's going to be VERY hard for Sony to manage the messaging around it. Reviews will moan the step back in visual quality from the previous Horizon games, even if they acknowledge this isn't intended to compete with them - it still carries their banner. I would bet there is no way the PS5 version would get net positive reviews, it just wouldn't with the inevitable comparisons hanging over it. And that would be a black eye against the franchise, in a way that poor reviews of a mobile game simply won't be, if they happen.

But if it's well established as a mobile game and later comes to PS5, that may be different. If it comes out after Guerilla's next mainline release, the comparisons won't hurt the franchise.

No, I've actually zero desire for a low effort, AI infused, gacha game on the PS5. But clearly people like slop so...

@RobN Yes, this sounds perfectly plausible to me. Sony might have guessed that they’d be roasted for releasing a “mobile quality” game as the next Horizon entry on console.

Only thing, as Sammy said earlier, they probably should have announced it simultaneously to avoid confusion

My theory:

Hermen Hulst really wants us PS5 players to play the Horizon Concord Edition instead. So everything we know from Concord (I can't go into more detail or I'll get banned again, but everyone knows what I mean) will also be present in Guerilla's Horizon multiplayer. And because the reactions will be accordingly negative, Hermen has already stated that for us PS5 players, only the improved Horizon will be available.

His bad luck is that we already know about the better Horizon MP, and everyone wants that instead of the Horizon Concord Edition.

Don't really care for Horizon tbh but it is strange its skipping PS5.

Then again Sony has been outright sabotaging itself this gen so maybe not that strange.

It’s a made for mobile game so I understand why Sony didn’t want it to compete with its own Horizon multiplayer game. But a lot of the reaction to the Korean character models has been positive.
