The PS5 is a chunky bit of kit, even if you own one of the later, more slender models.
If you've ever looked at your console under your TV and thought, "I wish this thing could be much smaller, and would ditch that weird-looking design," you're in luck.
YouTube channel Not From Concentrate has proven the PS5 can be squeezed into a considerably smaller package, with little difference to how it performs.
This one gets very technical, but in broad terms, NFC has been able to take the PS5's internals and consolidate it all into a box that's about 60 per cent smaller than the launch PS5 model.

The modded console this video focuses on is a slightly larger model, but it's still a good deal smaller than stock PS5s, and interestingly, you can build one for yourself — if you have the knowhow.
NFC has made its blueprints and guides on how to build this custom PS5 available for purchase, but stresses that you'll need to buy or 3D print certain parts, as well as soldering skills and patience, to make it happen.
Whether you're able to do it yourself or not, squashing the PS5 down to a much smaller box (that's also a lot more discreet) is an impressive feat.
At this point we don't imagine there will be any other big revisions of the PS5, but it seems like some clever engineering can reduce it right down.
Anyway, what do you think of this tiny PS5? Is it something you'd like to own, or even make, yourself? Tell us in the comments section below.

Anything electronic can be made smaller, for and at a price. I think there's some laws about that.
I don't like the look of the PS5, gate balancing it on that stupid little stand horizontally, but I don't need it to look like an Xbox or genetic PC either.
Oh well, some say we'll have game news, until then, gotta keep the masses entertained. Gladiator.gif
This is neat. I think a third gen PS5 (a la PS3) that's even more discreet would be very cool, I just don't trust Sony to include a disc drive, detachable or not.
It's my primary concern about the PS6. I don't need more power, but a dockable handheld would be fantastic. I just don't see them putting a disc drive in the dock, and I'm not ready to leave physical media behind.
I really like the design of the PS5 - particularly the Pro and slim models, and I always have ever since I first saw them. Far prefer them to a boring black box design, and I really hope they carry the basics of the design forwards to PS6.
The reduction in size from the original to the Pro (I never had slim) was welcome.
It’s always kind of neat to see consoles shrink with age. Sadly, I seem to be doing the opposite…
I don't love the look of the PS5 but I don't hate it either. My basement has a white, modern aesthetic and the PS5 actually fits nicely on my entertainment center. It's cool people can do these things but I'm good with what I have.
Remember the lead hardware guy said he wanted to make the PS5 even bigger. But Sony said no. He clearly has a thing for bigger consoles. Myself i have never liked the design of the PS5. It’s ugly, and doesn’t come in black. Then the plates came out so i did make it black and that hid it some. Then i got a Pro and now i am back to white. The PS6 better not need an attachment to lay flat. That is just silly. I loved the design of the PS2, after that the next 3 that came after haven’t did much for me. Next up i would like them to re design the PSN logo. The yellow D pad is not great.
I have my PS5 hidden mounted behind my TV so it doesn’t matter how it looks. Still, pretty cool to see this.
Anything looks better than the grotesque aberration they settled on. Whoever designed the exquisitely beautiful launch model PS2 and PS4 systems must be spinning in their grave at what the final PS5 design turned out to be. If I had the technical know-how I’d certainly build a custom plastic shell for this monstrosity. Love the interface, love the games, love the ecosystem; hate the look of the thing.
Every slimmer version of playstation consoles have always looked worse
the fat ps1 is aesthetically pleasing, the fat ps2 is just straight up a work of art, the fat ps3 is luxurious beauty and still timeless, the fat ps4 has an awesome shape & the fat ps5 is the boldest. slim models were always the boring revisions with stripped features
@HonestHick i miss the original psn logo from the early ps3 days with the globe shape and the ps buttons embossed around it. the yellow d-pad came when they forced “ps plus” onto everyone so that they could scam us out of our money to pay for online
Bothering with this is like bothering with the power save feature.
@Rich33 Yep the slim and pro look so sleek compared to the fat.
@nomither6 naah this bout the first time the slim looks better than the fat, you can check YT videos of all three sude by side.
It's cool, but I'm not opposed to the huge size of the PS5. My PS5 is quiet and the cooling solution has kept it from overheating. Not everything has to be sleek and tiny like my Apple Mac Mini.
@TheArt you’re right. i just didn’t want to admit it
That custom housing is a similiar design to what I was hoping for the PS5 and then the slimmer model. The PS5 design used is just ugly, has a flimsy horizontal positioning, having all black is an extra cost, the price went up after release, and the PRO model doesn't appear to make enough difference for the difference in cost.
Still rocking with my PS4 Pro which is a noticeable upgrade over the regular PS4, is a pretty all black rectangle, can do local saves, and I can screenshot anything on the internet to quickly use as a theme.
It's been five years and I still don't understand the bizarre reasoning behind the PS5's horizontal/stand design. It's the most precarious, unsafe-feeling positioning ever.
