Adverts for games appearing on your PlayStation 4's main menu? Yes, they do indeed exist -- and this isn't the first time that they've caused a bit of an uproar. According to multiple reports, PS4 users are booting up their console to find an advert for Destiny 2 sitting on their dashboard. The advert is displayed just like a regular game or an app, except it has "Buy Now" printed underneath it. Hitting X takes you to the game's product page on the PlayStation Store.
We assume the advert is only appearing for those who don't already own Destiny 2 and have the "Featured Content" option enabled under the Automatic Downloads menu, which itself can be found in the PS4's settings. Make sure to disable that if you don't want to see ads like this one appear on your main menu.
Naturally, the seemingly widespread advert has created a bit of a stink, which we doubt has been helped by the fact that Destiny 2 is in a precarious position right now alongside Bungie, its developer. Slapping a stealth ad on PS4 dashboards probably isn't the best way to garner good will at this point.

yeap on mine
I have this feature turned off so at first I had no idea what the uproar was over. Thanks for explaining it!
I haven't gotten around to playing Destiny 2, as I've heard it's practically no different than Destiny.
Never see these as likely have it disabled. I always find that the featuring tab on thr store page never actually works itself, utter grabage PSN as per.
I swear this happens every year.
10 old men yelling at clouds out of 10.
Oh noes.
For those who don't know how you turn this off, I just checked:
Settings > System > Automatic Downloads
Unfortunately, I preordered D2 and expansions based on my experience with D1 (I put in close to 3,000 hours - I know). I’ve been utterly disappointed with D2 played through the story once and a few bits after. Haven’t really played it all since.
@get2sammyb Cheers for that. I really dislike sneaky ads like that so I turned it off right away.
I was mildly annoyed maybe, but it's not the kind of thing to really get worked up about.
I must have the option turned off, thankfully. Anyway, I played the demo and the most fun I had with it was a kickabout on the farm with a giant footy.
Sony is really backing these predatory games hard, eh? Clearly not fussed about all the recent controversy.
"Yes we DO want to be associated. Money money money money money money money money money..."
Pretty sure you can just delete it like an ordinary app. If not just follow the site's advice.
Yeah, I actually saw this. I just deleted the app.
I dont see why so many people are complaining about it. I had this ad pop up last night, and i just simply deleted it cause i do not want to buy Destiny 2
I think I remember this news year ago, is this the same problem? I already turn off or delete the add last year.
I wish they used it to advertise good under-the-radar games to find new games I might like.
Does the ad run in 4K on the PS4 Pro? Good to know that Sony is pushing for the best gaming experience.
@MadAussieBloke
But can you imagine what would have happened if PSN would have gone down for a few hours on Christmas Day only to return with an easily removable ad? It would have been like Brexit, Trump and Australian Gay Marriage x 1238976657231212314.
Are people still playing Destiny 2? Lol, advert just shows their desperation; their game is sinking like the Titanic.
Nice to see users getting to grips with their hardware by not spending more than ten seconds looking at their settings and options...
@MadAussieBloke my thoughts exactly.
Are the Outrage Brigade getting on their high horses again?
Nothing remotely underhand or sneaky about this, it's a system feature which has been around since day one and was openly discussed before the system launched.
"The system will also be able to "learn your likes and dislikes" and pre-download content based on what it discerns of your tastes, à la TiVo."

relax
Yeah I saw it. I just ignored it. Crazy, I know.
I want my bandwidth back.
2018 is going to be the year the 10 year Destiny plan and Bungie disappear altogether.
