More God of War PS5 Details Leak, Out in 2027 with New Protagonist

The idea doesn’t hype me up but I’m fine with it, and most likely, I would be there day one just based on I’m a fan of their previous work.

Playing as Faye? If I'm going to play as someone other than Kratos, it better be Thor or Freya.

I'm on the side that thinks some works in God of War universe are better suited for other formats, mainly because while players love God of War, they love Kratos and the power fantasy that comes with him.

In that case what was the reason for SSM to turn a planned trilogy into a duology and rushing to get Ragnarok out, which was obvious given the rushed third act? Do you mean to tell me Cory left the team to work on another GOW game and with norse characters again? If that’s the case this is beyond disappointing. Also, I like Faye as a character, but really? Id rather have 3 norse games with good pacing playing as Kratos than to play as Faye. You couldn’t think up of anything else, maybe even Tyr since he was traveling the different realms and mythologies?

Just bring it Boy.

Now, Kratos against the Chinese gods would be interesting.

I'm definitely open to Cory Barlog trying something new. He reinvented God of War with 2018, making a nearly universally-beloved game in a already well-known series. If anyone wants to take a relatively unknown character and turn it into a full game, he would be the best one for it.

At its core it'd still be a god against the pantheon, as we know the giants didn't get along with Odin and the rest.

Double plus, Deborah Ann Woll is a great actress, and if she stays with the character, I'm all for it.

I'm sure it will be a very good game, but I hope the style of game and gameplay is more like the original games than the Norse era

I hope it doesn't have the companion system which for me started to wear thin halfway through Ragnarok

Personally I'd love new God of War games in the original style featuring Kratos as the protagonist, and other games in the Norse-era style featuring Atrius or Freya or Thor as protagonists

I’m not sure how to feel about this, I’d have rather seen it officially in action with gameplay than finding out through a leak and wondering how it could play…

Is Santa Monica creatively bankrupt? Putting out one GoW title after another nearly killed the studio after Ascension. So now they've hit a new stride with the Norse era and are doing it again? Would love to see a new IP, but I'm beginning to think they don't have it in them.

…. And it will have live service elements.

@Ludacritz If you can revamp your franchise why not play with that universe with new types of gameplay? It's like saying Capcom should stop making RESIDENT EVIL or Nintendo should stop making 3D Mario games.

God of War has shown it's ability to re-invent itself, I don't see why they cannot do it again.

I love the Norse GOW games but this seems like such a weird choice. I was hoping for a new IP. An entire game based on a character that is dead is just not appealing to me. I hate when characters that die get their own story after. But ultimately, it’s Cory working on it and odds are I’ll get it day one (depending on how it looks altogether). But at this moment, I’m just completely underwhelmed at this news. By the time this releases, Cory has spent 9 years on it? Insane.

If it's two minutes of fighting followed by 20 minutes of cutscene followed by two more minutes of fighting then 30 minutes of cutscene then 30 seconds of fighting followed by the entire LOTR extended trilogy.... it's gonna be a no for me.

Sounds boring tbh. I love Deborah Ann Woll but didn't care Faye much. I would like to see Freya if we are going for a woman lead. Another detail that sounds more boring than this is another Norse adventure.

Also yeah, I doubt this will justify cutting Norse trilogy short with a dissapointing game.

I love my PS 1st parties as much as the next guy but God damn just keep "slow walk with exposition" to minimum. I was going insane with it in both Ragnarok's Angroboda and Spider-Man 2 with different scenes.

I expect an Egypt setting which already teased multiple times in the game and with GoW: Fallen God, a comic mini-series that is canon.

But we'll see...

Whilst I would be more than pleased with an Atreus centered follow up to Ragnarok, the above just doesn't excite me at all I'm afraid.

As long as it feels like a new IP. I still hope it has an Egypt setting. And a more action focused game like the original sounds very compelling. Can’t wait to see the game.

With PS releasing 7 first party titles this year, and already having Intergalactic and this Santa Monica game slated for 2027, it seems like Playstation is finally back to a solid release cadence again

I thought playing as Atreus was the quickest way to lose interest in a GoW title. If this is true then I was wrong. I couldn’t care less about any prequel story involving Faye.

Next year is looking good already with this and Intergalactic.

I’m not bothered who the main character is along as they are interesting and enjoyable to play. With this I have confidence in Corey.
Hearing it will have Devil May Cry style action is a big enthusiasm dampener for me though.

I’ll wait for an actual game reveal before making any judgement.

Reading this comment section, it seems like very few people are willing to give any new ideas a chance. If a studio like Santa Monica hasn't earned the benefit of doubt from PlayStation fans, then who has? What a depressing state of affairs.

It's alluded to multiple times in Ragnarok that Faye is pretty badass; she stood toe to toe with Thor in a fight and the Leviathan Axe was made specifically for her.

I loved Faye, and I wanted to see more of her in the duology, but am I the only one who thinks that this is fake? They explicitly said that the Norse story IS OVER, and I highly doubt they would go with a prequel, considering that Cory has been working on this game for years now...

@Ainu20 I've said it for multiple times but this comment section is one of the weirdest I've seen:
1. they want new IP but also want old failed IP to come back
2. They want sequels and existing franchises to take more risks but also, hate it when franchises take risks.
3. Want Playstation to diversify from third person cinematic action adventure games but complain about everything that isn't a third person cinematic action adventure game.

A prequel story of how she (The last Giant) and Kratos met would be interesting. We already know she met Brok and Sindri and they made the Leviathan Axe for her. With it she fought Thor in Vanaheim, so that's has the potential to be a legendary fight.

I guess I'm in the minority who thinks playing as Faye possibly at the peak of her power is a far more enticing prospect than playing as Freya or Atreus.

Man was hoping for a new IP. If it's new protagonist setting it in Norse again is a disappointment. Should be. A new character in another pantheon.

@Divergent95 really hope it's fake, but a lot of "insiders" have talked about it so we're see in the summer time. If this is Cory's new game, it's going to be a disappointment that it took him this long for afaye spinoff.

@cainhurst94 I don't want to fall into the trap of thinking of this comment section as a hive-mind. Contrasting opinions are not only possible, but normal. It's just that on every single article, it's always the immediate negativity that is the loudest. It's so hopelessly exhausting.

I've said it before on here, I genuinely want to engage with fellow PlayStation fans, but almost every comment section just sucks the joy out of pretty much anything related to gaming. Do people on here have a compulsive need to hate on everything or what?

@Ainu20 I’m always open to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially since it’s Santa Monica and Cory, but you have to understand, after so many misses and downright stupid decisions in the last couple of years perhaps the negativity is because of the current state of affairs at Sony and studios HQ

@Ainu20 Exactly I have my issues but Santa Monica have shown they're unafraid of taking the big risks and have earned the right to at least show gameplay and the story before people write off the game.

Given the man’s legacy, I trust Cory to make it great. Ragnarok was fantastic, but at the same time also 2018 revisited to some extent. So, bold and exciting, but with Cory’s quality focus, that’s something I’m looking forward to.

It is saddening that creativity and innovation are to such extent. Milking franchises dry.

@ChikaBambus I don't think that's an excuse for such behaviour (not directed at you btw). There have been more than enough articles on Sony's mismanagement and I've made my feelings very clear in those comment sections as well. There's a time and place for these things.

The trend we're seeing essentially boils down to people lambasting literally everything that isn't exactly as they imagined it in their heads. Oh it's not what I wanted? Then it's complete and utter garbage!

@Bsb56 change in combat allegedly which may mean a new camera, change in lead character that too one who is almost a complete unknown. probably a prequel which is also a narrative very risk.

Can’t decide how I feel about it. Normally I’m not a big fan of prequels as I feel it cheapens future plot points, so my initial worry is that it’ll make Brok’s death and the general mystery/mythology of Faye seem less impactful.

But - Deborah Ann Woll is amazing and the two previous GoW games have been good enough for me to give them the benefit of the doubt. So, I’m intrigued, but not gonna get hyped up until we see it.

@cainhurst94 I'm 100% open for a new idea; new combat and new setting like Egypt or even Japan myth where both was teased in the game.

Although, if this rumor is true, i'm not sure why Cory choose a prequel with Faye as the protag.

With Barlog working on it, it makes me optimistic and curious.
