Bethesda bigwig Todd Howard has finally touched base on when we can expect an update on Starfield, which has been strongly rumoured to release on PS5 for several years now.
While he didn’t speak specifically about Sony’s system, he did refer to an upcoming update his team’s been working on, which was actually shown secretly to press and media behind closed doors last year.
In an interview with Kinda Funny, he said:
“We’re moving into a phase where we’re ready to talk about Starfield. We’ve been doing a lot of work we like a lot. It’s not Starfield 2.0, I’ve seen a lot of [people talking about that]. So, for expectation setting, if you already love Starfield I think you’re going to love this. It’s updates and things which change the game not in an isolated way but in a meta way. But if Starfield’s something you didn’t connect with or found boring then I don’t think this is going to change that.”

So, it doesn’t sound like this is going to be a reinvention of the game like originally rumoured. But it does make sense for the PS5 version to release alongside these alterations, which should hopefully make the whole experience a bit better.
Howard wouldn’t say when the announcement would be made, but he promised it’s “coming soon”. One previous rumour pegged the reveal for March ahead of an April release date, which would align with the comments being made here.
It’ll be interesting to see how well the game resonates on PlayStation, because despite being touted as the next big thing, it’s got a pretty middling reputation these days.
