You know that rumoured God of War project that's supposedly been in development at Santa Monica Studio for a good few years now? The one being headed by veteran director Cory Barlog?
Well, if a fresh leak is to be believed, it'll signal the start of an expanded universe for the legendary PlayStation property.
A now-deleted LinkedIn post from a former employee — a senior writer, no less — seemingly confirms that this is the plan.
As spotted and screenshotted on ResetEra, the poster worked at the first-party outfit for just over five years, before departing in September 2025.
They "helped shape the narrative vision and creative direction at Sony Santa Monica Studio for a new franchise within the God of War universe".
Going into slightly more detail, the poster had a hand in "developing characters, storylines, and original lore that expanded the acclaimed IP".
Assuming that this is all 100% real, it implies that the next God of War title — again, the one that Cory Barlog and his team's been working on since before Ragnarok's release — is going to be somewhat removed from the existing adventures of Kratos.
Previous whispers from insiders have suggested that this project will "feel" like a new IP — and this leak certainly lends those reports some additional weight.
It'll be interesting to see, then, whether Kratos is once again the star of the show, or whether we're introduced to a brand new lead. There have also been strong rumours that the title will tackle ancient Egyptian mythology.
