@rjejr I think cool air is goes in from the center and sides and out the back. So hot air is not blowing into anyone's face, unless it's onto a co-worker sitting behind the dev kit.
Will this be cheaper than the Steelbook Croft edition, which is currently only $25? I hope this new edition comes with everything on disk and depend on a code like the Croft edition (I'm also looking at you, GOTY Spider-man). Codes can be already used by code generators.
This is also a list of PS4 games that I will not buy because they will most likely be ported/enhanced for PS5 and I will be too busy, in the twilight years of the PS4, catching up on my PS4 backlog. Only afterwards will I be ready to purchase these PS5 games at their new normal price of $10-$20, along with a PS5 Pro.
I guess this is a living document, but nothing on this list is confirmed or even hinted at. Gran Turismo should be on here as at least that has been mentioned to be running on PS5 dev kit.
Might as well add Gravity Rush 3 here as the developer did say any sequel would be on next-gen...
@Nickolaidas Some PS4 games were very impressive graphically and I think much of that is from good use of high quality textures instead of more complicated models. So if cost is a concern for the PS5, then it's cheaper to add more ram (for better textures) than to adding a more costly video hardware.
@darksoul77 If it can really run games at 4K 60FPS consistently then I would be very impressed. A $1000+ rtx2080ti is just about to hit 4k 60fps, but not always. But I'm sure 4K 60FPS of some form can be achieved if details are dialed down or re-implemented (easier to do for a fixed hardware target). But my guess is that it won't meet expectations for all games and games will just get more and more demanding. Perhaps a few years later, the PS5 Pro will achieve the expected performance for more games.
Is it a day-one patch (1.01?) that is corrupting game? Moot at this point with the 1.02 patch being released, but I'm curious if the 1.00 game on the disk will install and run fine if done offline.
I suspect one main reason is that much of the story happens only within the player's head, such as when in the 'net' or when interacting with Johnny Silverhand. Another reason is that with the game having so many interior environments, it much tougher to find space for an external camera.
New game IPs and sequels may not always work out. But re-leasing a previous hit is a pretty safe move; just ask Nintendo. So acquiring Bluepoint Games makes sense.
This is like how they took a small book like The Hobbit or Fantastic Beasts and magically inflated it to be 3-5 movies.
If this game will be split into three parts, that is potentially 6 bluray disks. It must be due to pre-rendered cutscenes and I'm rather disappointed with that since I love to see cutscenes done in-engine. But I suppose it's ok for this game since the characters' looks don't change. Are they pre-rendering the cutscenes are multiple resolutions (eg: 1080p and 4k)? I guess swapping disk is authentic to the original experience...
Is the title of the first game final? Final Fantasy 7 remake? What will they name the later episodes? Remark Part 2 / Part 3?
The trailers seem to show climbing abilities, something which was missing from HDZ and resulted in many of my sessions full of trying to hop up the sides of mountains.
I think the system should have a lot of ram to hold better looking textures. 16GB at least. If you look at the emulation and modding scene, old games are being made super gorgeous with high-resolution textures.
3D audio is a nice bullet point, but I don't think it'll really catch on. For visuals, one just needs to replace the TV, like upgrade to 4K. But for better audio, much more work is involved. You will need surround speakers (and the more the better), an amplifier to connect them all, and have enough space in your gaming environment to sit in that sweet spot between all the speakers.
Most games will end up wearing stereo headphones and while you can kind of get fake 3d on headphones, it's not really the same.
The hardware stuff is pretty hard to get excited about since it's mainly the same as PS4 but faster. But that is a good thing since it makes it easier for developers and great for backwards compatibility. When they try to wow us with exotic hardware like what was on the PS3 or Sega Saturn, then you end up stalling the momentum of developers and weaken the quality of the games.
I think an easy way for PS5 to wow us is to throw more ram into it so games can have higher-res textures. I remember playing resident evil 7 and sometimes I would get close to a wall and I'm disappointed when some of the textures are very low-res.
I think Sony needs to make sure it launches with games that really puts in above what is capable on the PS4/Pro. Otherwise, people will just think of it as a PS4 Pro Pro or a Sony's late answer to the Xbox One X.
Sony is one of the few console makers that have backwards compatibility out of the box (ps2, ps3). That stopped with the PS4 so its return in the PS5 is welcomed. I wonder if there will be games that are released for PS4, is supported on PS5 via backwards compatibility, and then later patched to support the enhanced features of the PS5. I'm specifically thinking of late 2019/early 2020 games like The Last of Us 2 or Cyberpunk 2077. Will publishers create PS5 enhancements for PS4 games or double-dip us with separate PS5 versions?
I haven't played ICO but would it make sense (and be fun) to either extend the length of the current game or add more content to the end of it? I've heard that the original game is kind of short.
So kind of like what was done with the SEGA CD version of Out of This World, where a sequel of sorts is added to the end of the first game. They could have the new content be a prequel, a sequel, or even something that runs in parallel with the previous game. Imagine they add content that ties together ICO, SOTC, and TLG, starting the beginning of a new connected gaming universe.
Would it make sense to make a modular system with a disk-less base unit and a separate blu-ray drive addon (ala Sega CD or Turbografx CD)? It didn't quite work out then but perhaps the market is more receptive of this now.
I like physical since they are a static version of the product, unlike digital where it can be remotely revoked (music rights lost) or changed (ending to shadow of the tomb raider). But then again, physical disks don't last forever due to bit-rot. Of course, digital stores go away too.
Most likely years in the future, when I'm feeling nostalgic, it's easier to just download games that someone else archived and run in an emulator than go through the trouble of getting my old disks working.

No way this is the dev kit. I would expect something more like a boxy pc case. The custom exterior would be costly for no practical reason.
