Consumer conventions are laced with awkward moments, but the quiz that Sony hosted as part of its Paris Games Week booth sounds like a real humdinger. Attendees were invited on-stage to participate in a quiz, with one of the topics being to name famous PlayStation faces. Sadly, according to red-faced onlookers, no one had a clue who Gravity Rush’s Kat was.
This story is all the more bemusing when you consider all of the French influences in Japan Studio’s underrated superhero exclusive. It’s not massively surprising given the series’ dismal sales, but there’s no question that the topsy-turvy heroine deserved better. Still, the photograph of the gentleman staring cluelessly at the picture is undoubtedly amusing.

That is nothing short of a travesty. How many people at these conventions are richers who play GTA, CoD and Fortnite? I was waaay late to the Kat game i will admit. But damn....nobody? That's kind of heart breaking when you think how empathetic and caring Kat actually is. What is even more concerning is that that question was probably also used as some kind of barometer for GR3....bummer
With Gravity Rush not being a big time seller, it really doesn't come as much of a surprise that people don't know her.
I mean, there are people out there that don't know characters like Geno from Mario RPG or Spike from Ape Escape.
That’s a bit chatte isn’t it?
Shame on them only a true PS fan knows Kat, they were probably fortnite casuals
I'm from Argentina and even i know about gravity rush and that kat is the main protagonist. What a shame.
@GKO900 I read this in Vegeta's voice and it made perfect sense.
Sony should have promoted better but most people who play games are casuals.
Next question was equally confusing for this poor chap...
Name things synonymous with Wipeout?
Errr Richard Hammond final answer.
@PhantomXIII 2 did NOT have the magic of 1. I can easily admit to that
Maybe she would be more famous on a platform like the Switch. Nintendo knows better, how to handle the marketing of not-so-big titles.
Wait! Put away the pitchforks! It was only a thought, not port begging! D:
@GodGamer Why do people ALWAYS say this about Gravity Rush 2? They DID promote this game. Had the sickest japanese ad, They showed off the game at an E3 and again at a TGS event to promote Raven's Free DLC. But above ALL of that, they put the freakin' animation up for free on their youtube channel around the same time.
And just in general, they gave the first Gravity Rush game away for vita for Plus, the made the remaster, and had her in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. These guys should have at least seen her within the last 7 years.
People just didn't bite. There's a lot of other people out there that want more stuff from Sony's SIE Japan studios and they keep trying to act like they don't support Japanese games because of it(which is already stupid), but the lot of you are actually going to have to GET these games for them to keep going. I'm still mad about Puppeteer...
I'm not grilling you personally on whether or not you got the game, but I disagree entirely on the promotion end.
I am HURT. She deserves better.
We need three things: One for Gravity Rush to be on the Switch. Two, a third game since GR2 ended openly and third Kat to be in Smash with a Raven alternate color pallet.
I'd be the same way with Pokemon and Dragon Balls, and those are super popular. I enjoy the underrated stuff though, haha. I do know Kat because I was big into Vita at the time.
Eh. Turn her into some snarky white dude with a gun and I bet those same people wouldn't be having these issues.
Pity we'll never get any more of these games. Japanese first-party exclusives from Sony are few and far between these days.
@Nightsever I say this because the average PS4 owner does not know what the game is. Sony never even included the game in their commercials. If I ask my bro or nephews, they never heard of the game like they did GOW, Uncharted or TLoU. They know Ratchet as well though.
@Torakaka Why would Sony put the game on the Switch?
@GodGamer Mind you the game may be Playstation Exclusive but the developers can decide this. They can ask Nintendo if they could publish their games on their consoles. Platinum Games owns Bayonetta and was on the PS3 before they moved to Nintendo in order to release the sequel and their other titles.
I did not play first game and never finished the second one. I do think game was rather nice and I thought main character was really cute. I shall come back to the game sometime.
@Torakaka - The GR games were developed by Sony's Japan Studio so there's no chance of them deciding on Switch ports. Also Sega own the Bayonetta IP, they allowed the games to go to Switch (with Nintendo covering the dev costs), not Platinum.
@Shigurui I'm just saying that it could happen. I mean if Joker could be in Smash why not Kat?
@Torakaka - Sony have nothing to do with ownership of Persona or Joker, that's all down to Atlus/P-Studio.
For some reason i couldnt get into GR the first time i played it, but after going back and giving it another chance i absolutely loved it. Im definitely gonna pick up second one sometime down the line. Crappy that more people don't know about these games.
@Torakaka Sony owns Team Gravity as stated. Sony owns so many games that most people don't realize. Someone on Gematsu said that a Wild Arms game should be made for the Switch, not realizing that Sony owns that too lol. This is why Sony should not promote third party or do third party deals. They own enough franchises they could spend their money on instead. I am still waiting for my Dark Cloud 3.
Gravity Rush was the first game I played on my PS4. Gravity Rush 2 was the second.
@GodGamer You Know These People Don't Do Their Research They Think That Just Because Sony Sometimes Have 2nd Party Devs Make Their Games That The Dev Can Just Put The Game On Whatever Platform They Want.Thats The Reason That No Matter How Many Times PC Guys Ask For Bloodborne From Fromsoft They Can't Just Port The Game Over Without Sony Giving The Go Ahead
I'm still salty sony didn't include gravity rush 2 trailer at sony e3 show trailer reels, sony only shows that trailer on additional e3 trailer which nearly everyone didn't saw. I understand if it's small game like concrete genie, but gr2 is a big open world game, why sony seems ignoring it, it's only 2 minutes trailers 😕
Sony's treatment of the Gravity Rush series from a marketing standpoint was pretty disrespectful to be fair. Shawn Layden (I presume) just did not care about it. Didn't bother to show the game at E3 '16, was reluctant to sell physical copies of the remaster and hell, even the PlayStation Youtube channel couldn't be bothered to upload GR trailers in a timely fashion.
It's easier to market post-apocalyptic, gritty action games than colourful anime ones I guess. Hopefully, fingers crossed, Jim Ryan will be different.
Gravity Rush 3 PS5, VR with Haptic feedback yes please! Kat is such a loveable ditzy clutz, shame on them not knowing who she is.
Should have kept the PS Vita alive.
That's so sad and really shows how niche it is. Gravity Rrush 2 is up there in my top favorite 3 games of this gen. And Kat is adorable, funny and a BADASS.
@Torakaka Nah, to 2 of those things lol. OH RIGHT, I get it, because if it comes to a Nintendo console then it's a straight up 10/10 like Skward Sword right?
@Torakaka You don't seem to have a grasp that Sony owns Japan Studio, therefore owns Gravity Rush. Joker was in Smash because Sony has no ownership over that character as it's owned by Atlus.
