Update (12th September 2019): Skybound Games has released a patch, taking the game to version 1.02. This new update fixes the issue, so you should now be able to get stuck into the action. Phew!
Original Story: You'd be forgiven for letting this release slip your mind (we did), but Skybound Games just released The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series on PlayStation 4. It's a collection that gathers all four seasons of the influential adventure series and gives it all a face lift. It also includes all the DLC and some behind the scenes goodies. It's a robust package that brings everything together.
Unfortunately, it's broken. Those who attempt to boot up the game will find that it's totally unplayable on PS4. A patch is reportedly corrupting the game file, preventing players from, well, playing. It seems you can access the extra features, like director commentary and music player, but the games themselves are inaccessible.
The good news is that Skybound knows about it and is working to resolve the issue. Hopefully this gets sorted soon -- it sounds like a particularly nasty bug.

It's a real shame as I've been looking forward to this for a while now. I haven't played any of the final season and was using this as an excuse to go back through the excellent first couple of seasons and complete the whole thing.
A really bizarre bug by the looks of it. This game can't seem to catch a break.
That's a grave error.
This is... I don’t know, almost strangely appropriate? These games were known for their great writing, and their janky, bug-laden play. You wanted the definitive Telltale experience? Here ya go!
@KratosMD yeah I believe if you're got a physical copy you can load it up pre-patch and it works ok.
Ironically this is one of the few times I've gone digital with a new release!
I’ll remember that.
wow they didn't even test it before pumping it out. for £30+ thats not good i nearly sold my copy's of walking dead to upgrade for this edition as i love the series but instead after debating went for the final on it's own.
Every physical release of The Walking Dead ever released has had major issues on launch. I remember trying to play Season One on 360 and the frame rate would freeze for 5-10 seconds making QTEs impossible to perform. I love these games so much, and I own physical versions of every season, but dude. I love Telltale Games, but there's a reason why they had to shut down.
"we are so sorry about the PS4 issues! We know and we see em"
They see them. Now. After release.
That's basically admitting that they did zero testing prior to launch.
Though to be fair, that seems par for the course with a number of developers these days, given the number of titles released which exhibit glaring, mindbogglingly obvious bugs within the first few minutes or hours of gameplay.
Hah the game was broken for me on vita too almost unplayable in parts. I got zero help from telltale at the time on their forums so this doesn’t surprise me. That experience ensured I never bought one of their games again...
I’ve enjoyed 3/4 of the series and I just need to play the last season. I’m not intending to buy this Definitive series; I’ll just buy season 4. Here’s hoping it runs ok on its own.
I thought it was just my ps4...I deleted it and redownloaded it hoping it would fix it
Just started episode 4 of the Final Season on my Steam copy. I don't want it to end, but I know it must. At least this got closed out unlike the Batman one. Shame they never did a BTTF sequel.
i played two seasons of this mess on the ps3 and that was enough, so i am not getting this.
@Dodoo I keep reading such comments and I still don't know what you people are on about. I played TWD on the vita and didn't encounter any serious problems. Only a frame drop at a quick time event that took me 10 times to do successfully. Other than that, everything worked ok, though not perfectly well.
It honestly feels like either people are exaggerating when they say it's unplayable (or "almost unplayable") or they're talking about a different game. I mean, considering how many people got all the trophies, it literally can't be unplayable.
The gaming community will remember that.
@naruball did you play it day one or months later?, also the vita is another build than the ps3 version.
Is it a day-one patch (1.01?) that is corrupting game? Moot at this point with the 1.02 patch being released, but I'm curious if the 1.00 game on the disk will install and run fine if done offline.
@badbob001 yeah 1.00 works fine
@naruball Each individual season runs fine on its own, it’s just this collection of all four seasons and the DLC that was broken. It was just recently released as a package, and according to the article there was a “facelift” given to the games too.
Anyways, I guess it’s fixed now.
