Ps1 was a great cd player as well as console. Ps2 was a DVD player. Ps3 had the bluray player. 4 had an awesome library, while 5 didnt really bring anything to the table. The ps6 needs something to justify the higher price point other than "slightly better frames and resolution" or "hey, play your older games a bit better", especially if games are going to be cross gen with the ps5 halfway through its existence.
They're conditioning us for the ps6 price. 899,99€ for the ps5 pro, OR 949,99€ for the ps6. And if you think console/pc component prices are going to go back down when things stabilize, have i got bridge to sell you.
I remember when consoles dropped in price after some years on the market. Pepperidge farms remembers.
All they had to do was have prices for ps+ members and prices for non. An incentive to subscribe, etc. But they decided to do whatever it is they are doing.
Imagine being a dev for the studios that closed. If you were working on something, you can't really show any of your work because of disclosures, ndas, etc. So you have this gap of a few years in your resume where you have to convince jobs, "seriously, what I was working on/doing was good."
I don't get it. What are the metrics for mp games? What makes a multiplayer game successful and allows it to run for a long time? Is it initial sales? Is it player engagement, ie steady playerbase? Mtx? All of the above? I mean helldivers sold well(20M as of Jan 2026), with a playerbase of 36k right now on steam. F2p games like marvel rivals and fortnite make their money from skins. What it's the measurement of success?
@don-neto I remember witcher iii being somewhat poor at launch. Same goes for nms and cyberpunk 2077. If not for patches and updates those games wouldn't have blood and wine, phantom liberty, or the numerous nms additions. I hear a simple 60fps patch for bloodborne is sorely wanted. Even the highly lauded playstation exclusives have received patches and updates to make games better. Have some devs relied too heavily on "patch the game after release" instead of creating the "perfect game" from the beginning, maybe some, but i believe it's done more good than bad.
What I've heard/read elsewhere seems to be true. Growing up we(42yo) had steady installments of final fantasy games. From snes to Playstation, they were a constant for us. Meanwhile, the younger generation grew up with maybe a few final fantasy games(ffxv, ffvii remake, ffxvi). Not enough to keep them engaged. All the while the games the younger generation plays(cod, roblox, fortnite) had constant upgrades and added gameplay. And its probably not going to change considering how long game development takes now.
77 on metacritic, 83 on opencritic. "Game is bad, I told you" are the same ones on other articles saying, "when is a 7 out of 10 a bad game?", etc. Like I've said before, gamers dont really know what theyre saying or want. If you weren't planning on playing this game, you should hold your tongue when others are having fun with it.
I don't see why the finals and genshin online services for ps4 are being disabled. Is that the devs/publishers doing or Sony? It's not like those games are being disabled for lower end pcs.
I get the whole "game needs to be on disc for preservation" side of the argument, but im not sure it works that way anymore. Cyberpunk and nms are entirely on disc. But would you want to play those versions without downloading updates/patches? We've come to the point where the "entire game on disc" is passed and no longer possible because of day one and continuing updates/patches. And its not like we're running the games off the disc. They're pretty much just keys to allow you to run the game from your storage. So basically discs have been "game key cards" for quite some time.
A smaller more aesthetically pleasing console would do wonders for the Japanese market. Space is at a premium and having a gigantic monstrosity sitting in the room isnt ideal. And then there are the games. Don't know how much of the Japanese audience is looking forward to wolverine or saros, but im sure it isnt helping.
Im sure Sony could if they release their own pc storefront and not allow the helix to use/integrate it. And the way the pc xbox app works as of now, it allows steam games/libraries but not allow you to purchase steam games through the Xbox app. Could be something similar to the helix. Allows your library from other storefronts to be played on the Xbox app, but not allow games to be purchased. You'd have to use your phone or another pc/laptop to purchase steam/epic games.
But once again I say why would a pc user buy the helix? They already have a means to play their steam library. And its not like xbox has an abundance of exclusives.
Capcom should be a case study for other devs. They seem to be one of the few that are consistently pumping out quality games at a reasonable rate. After resident evil requiem we still have pragmata coming in a few months.
Sony, after hearing this, probably has no urge to rush the ps6 out. It'll sell more ps5/pros and continue to build that player base. And when the time is right, Sony will come out with a mic drop statement for the ps6 and say, "$800."
It makes sense to port the games to pc, after the sales start to stagnate on console, not before. Unless it costs another $100M to port a game over. But if it doesnt, why not make some extra money. Unless, once again, its just not worth it financially. Also, most pc players were never going to buy a ps after playing a ps5 game on pc, and it was foolish for Sony to think they would. Pc users might have if Sony had done like the previous gens and console prices lowered after so many years. Either way, im fortunate to have multiple consoles, so its no skin off my nose.
If the "recommended specs" on the steam page(which are comparable to a series x/ps5) are anything to go by, it should run well enough. And cyberpunk has shown that with updates, etc., a game can become better optimized. I'll wait for a more in-depth console review, and if performance is decent enough I'll grab it on xbox(play anywhere for the win).
Looking at this version of kratos, I cant imagine how the baldur fight scene will look or play out. Watching this kratos go flying over the house, then getting smashed through trees and into the mountainside. Watching kratos drop the giant boulder on top of baldur, etc. How are the more fantastical parts gonna look? His spartan rage, the trolls and draugrs, the world serpent. I'll watch the first episode, but they'll have to do a whole lot to keep me watching.
A while back, if I remember correctly, fromsoft said a 60fps update was as simple as flipping a switch, but Sony owns the ip and never agreed to it. But now Sony is implying that fromsoft has the final say in all matters bloodborne? I think this is Sony trying distract people from the bluepoint debacle. A better distraction would be to release the 60fps update for bloodborne. Just saiyan.
Why would Sony keep this prestigious studio, and continue to produce great singleplayer games when its making money from all the gacha and ms games? They're going the valve route, collecting 30% off everything bought on the ps ecosystem.
I see it happening with the younger generation and some older. What with all the "shorts" and junk food gaming(the games that dont really require your undivided attention like survivor likes, ball x pit, etc.), where you can play on a second screen while your favorite podcast/show is on. Not many want to sit down and dedicate an hour or two on one game. Time IS at a premium, while attention spans are lower. Hell, you see it with text where people abbreviate multiple words to a few letters, "ngl." 🤣🤣🤣
Cutting costs for me as well. Binging all the shows before my subs are up. Bought the systems and my laptop(upgraded my ram and storage) before all the price increases. Gonna focus on my backlog, which is more than enough to see me through this, hopefully. Going to wait for sales or used copies when it comes to newer games, unless i have enough rewards points to just get it outright. So do what you must Sony/nin/xbox, i shan't be affected.
I've never thought about games like this needing an easy option. Its just a gradual rise in difficulty with the new areas. Just follow the quests and you should be at the right level to handle what comes your way. Imagine totk, witcher iii, rdr2, gta v, etc., with a difficulty slider. How would that even work? Would lynels be just as easy as the slimes? Would all duels in rdr2 be exactly the same, with zero challenge?
..even I’ll admit we’ve hit diminishing returns. Console upgrades more closely resemble smartphones these days: they’re becoming more iterative and a lot less transformative overall. But iteration doesn’t mean meaningless. Smaller, quieter, more powerful hardware..
🤣🤣🤣you're not helping to convince me on a new console with that spiel.
Ms has pushed game pass so hard they forgot about sales. And then they started asking, "how come no one buy game??" So they had to make up for it by selling on other consoles. Ps/nin do not have that sort of problem.
Im wondering, would this game be as well received if it didn't have god of war in its title? Could this stand on its own with its gameplay, visuals, and price without the god of war moniker.
With the established extract games on pc(arc, tarkov) will this have enough to pull those users away and attract new ones? An open play test(wasnt one announced) or demo would help to alleviate a lot of those worries.
They're not looking at the ratings of players and critics. They're just looking at the sales, which seems to have been enough. It has a lot of horn...dedicated fans, and they want to satisfy that fanbase.
I feel this game should've had mobs/pc enemies that you could shoot at for experience/currency, etc. And after breaking the enemies shields, the mobs would all focus their attack on the enemies base. The defenders could use lures/grenades to distract them from their base and go after the attackers for a short period, etc. And maybe make it more than 3v3. After the likes of MAG, battlefield, with battles of 32v32 and up; 3v3 seems like a real backwards fall.
@Nightcrawler71 helldivers 2, deep rock galactic, world war z, vermintide 2, starship troopers extermination, remnants from the ashes series, the division series.

I'll say it til im blue in the face. A vr killzone or resistance with a singleplayer campaign, with a multiplayer facet, like the older shooters.
