It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, but Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter Marathon – due out on 5th March – will be part of the latest State of Play, broadcasting later today. (You can find out when and where to watch the livestream through here.)
Writing on the game’s official Discord, as spotted on social media by Gematsu, a spokesperson for the studio confirmed the first-person shooter “will be part of the State of Play tomorrow”.
The Washington-based dev will be following up the broadcast with a livestream of its own, featuring special guests.
The studio did rule out rumours that there’ll be a “surprise” playtest in the aftermath of the show, so it’s good for it to clarify that before expectations get out of hand.
Sony’s got a lot riding on Marathon, of course, after buying Bungie for $3 billion. After an initially hostile response to the release, feedback does appear to have softened, and dare we say there’s actually a little excitement for the effort these days.
Multiplayer games of all types tend to attract a negative response during video game livestreams, though, so just mentally prepare yourself in advance: Marathon is going to feature at some point during the broadcast.
